Re: Sky Bet Championship 2016-17 Thread
I'd like to see Huddersfield go up because I think the manager could be an odd ball genius - and I have bought into his interesting journey. I hope to see Leeds go up next year with Garry Monk - I hope he isn't sacked. Another year in the championship building a young side (rather than having to spend with the pressure to stay in the premiership) would probably be good for him.
Not a good Friday for Burton Albion. They play away to Birmingham on Monday.

Swansea must be looking at the success Garry Monk has had and feel so stupid. He was sacked prematurely, he had a long link with Swansea so would likely have stuck around for a while and the long sequence of managers after him have all been disappointing.

One win in eleven games, wasn't it? Swansea were in free-fall under Monk, so you can't blame the owners for wanting change. They will feel stupid at how they've handled appointing his successors, for sure, but not actually at the fact he's now having a better stint in a lower league.
All he's done is taken Leeds to the PO positions, he hasn't actually achieved any success as of yet.

Yeah I don't mind the sacking so much as the awful appointments they made in replacing him - and John is right, Monk has done well so far this year, but they're still not actually even in the playoffs yet, let alone promoted.

Just need Aguero to score for a nice four way bet; Kane, Vardy and Lukaku so far.

Poor result today.
Hope we don't lose the last 4 and finish around 15th.

Monk should never ever of been sacked. It's again no faith being shown in the English manager.

Rafa has looked completely clueless, once we went off the rails post-xmas & Gayle got injured. Beyond embarrassing now, we might even sneak the play-off's at this rate

Great stuff for Chris Hughton. Probably the most underrated manager in the country. He was treated very poorly by both Newcastle and Norwich and it's fantastic to see him doing so well at Brighton.
As for Newcastle, could Rafa be the first manager sacked after leading a club to promotion? With their squad and budget, they should have walked the Championship. I still think they will make it but it's approaching squeaky bum time, especially if Huddersfield do beat Derby.

Well yeah treated poorly if you overlook us having the fifth worst points per game for a year and least goals in the top nine divisions of English football under him.....

Looks like its all confirmed - congrats to Brighton - easily the best team in the division this year, they'll need to spend again in the summer to improve and stay in the PL - but they should have a good shot with the money they have.

Tbh, that sounds like it was out of our hands, which wasn't the case. It's a favour, but I doubt they would of caught us & given our fixtures, think we would of crawled over the line ourselves anyway.
Been a hugely disappointing six months. The football has been beyond dire & Rafa has pretty much achieved the bare minimum of gaining promotion, through second place. I guess his future will depend on his meeting with Ashley, if he's denied the funds needed to overhaul the squad, then I think it will be adios.
Congrats to Brighton, been the best side post Xmas & although we did the double over them, they thoroughly deserve the title.

John,
95% of that squad are simply not good enough for the premiership. Laschelles will not be captain next season...he needs to be loaned out to work on his game.
Going to cost Ashley ALOT of money to rebuild the squad....and it will also show the fans how keen he is.
That will dictate what happens to Rafa.

You'd have thought that must be a short-term appointment. They weren't likely to get anybody better on such short notice.
What an absolute mess than Zola appointment was. 9% win rate.

Feel for Stockdale here - unluckiest half I've ever seen for a player
Ref is all over the place - even I could see from the other side of the ground that was a pen for Brighton before the second

All a bit of a damp squib of a second half really - Brighton clearly still hungover from celebrations! I do think they'll need to strength well to survive in the PL - they have an excellent championship side, but I think they need 4/5 good players to strengthen the squad - otherwise they could have a "Boro" esque eason next year. Good luck to em tho

Looks like one of Blackburn, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham to join Rotherham and Wigan to division one. Burton almost safe, Bristol City effectively safe. Zola resigning was probably his best managerial decision while at Birmingham.
Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield, Fulham look to be in the playoffs, with Leeds missing out (unless an unlikely sequence of results).

3 points clear of Blackburn 1 from Birmingham with 2 games to go.
Win either will probably be enough. Blackburn might save Birmingham from themselves. Not sure where their goals are coming from to convert draws into wins

Good win and pleased for Gabby.
Blues have Huddersfield home and Bristol City away.
Can see them staying up.
We play Blackburn away next sat.
Will be interesting to see who goes down.

If Newcastle win their final two games and finish second, Rafa will have broken the record for most points without winning the league in both the Premier League and the Championship.

A Bristol City side who aren't pushovers. Win Friday night and it put's the pressure on Brighton, which is all you can do. If they draw, i'd fancy our chances of winning the title over them.
