Re: The Olympics
I'm amazed to see how slow the GB Heptathletes are over the "longer" distances. KJT and JEH have a snail like 2:07 PB for 800m. That is absolutely terrible for a club runner, let alone someone who makes their living from it. They should easily be able to run sub 2:00 for 800 and even that would still be rubbish.

Are you sure about this Super? Just looked at the heat times for the 800 m at the 2012 Olympics and they were about 2.00. These times are for 800 m specialists. So to expect a heptathlete to be in the same league is a bit much, don't you think?

Yes, I apologise. I got my sums wrong. Their times are perfectly respectable.

Rubbish super - you just judge athletes by your own extraordinary standards: you score a TOC 254, you expect everyone to.
But life's just not like that!

The usual bs from s_r. By default everybody's just too bad, too poor, too slow, too fat, too ugly, too dumb, too stupid. Don't you think you have a problem with your self esteem?

Re: The Olympics
I simply made an error in calculation. Their times are actually good.
In this age of equality though, why aren't they doing a Decathlon instead of a Heptathlon? It's not as if the women's 800m is 7/10th's of the mens is it?

Good to see Rutherford thoroughly fed up with Bronze. Finally someone showing a winning attitude who isn't content to come anything other than first.

Rutherford should be happy with bronze. His gold winning jump in 2012 wouldnt have won him gold at any olympics past 1972. When jumpers go long hecant always compete.

Trying not to watch Olympic Golf . . . . . . but at least those 1999 Crenshaw abominations worked.
Hopefully history will repeat itself. No running on players' putting lines though, please.

Looks like Stenson will go to #4 in the Rankings. He needs a T5 or better to pass Rory.
I wonder if Rory is still looking at the Rankings every Monday.

{((sigh}}} Gold medalist Ryan Lochte held up at gunpoint at a party in Rio... just the kind of thing that weighed on golfer's minds in making their decision to participate or not. I WISH all the top players would have participated... but IMO things like this justify their decision not to...

What %age of the prize does the caddie receive?
Hopefully Lordy and Futch add to the GB medal tally.
Just had a butcher's at Justin's shirt - very tasteful, comparisons with Crenshaw's idea of haute couture way off base!!!!

and yeah SR... quite amazing how bronze in the Olympics is worth so much to these guys... of course he wanted more, but Kuchar and his wife were ecstatic after he finished . Great stuff.

The golf community got this very wrong. The Olympic golf event was very good and worth its place in the game.
Great course, fans turned up, golf was good, the finish as good as any major and you could see what it meant to Justin. The players sitting at home and those (myself included) who questioned golfs inclusion have to admit that we got this very wrong.
It must mean so much to Justin Rose to be an Olympic gold medalist.

Well done Justin Rose and credit to Stenson for producing yet another great battle.
Good to see full galleries too, in some of the Athletics events the stadium has looked 3/4 empty.
When do the women tee it up?

Well done Rose, totally awful competition though, on a rubbish looking course with terrible tv coverage and commentary. Perhaps GB's least significant gold yet.

No he shouldn't be happy. Rutherford is World, European, Commonwealth and up until last night, Olympic Champion. He should be fed up, and rightly so, his standards are higher.
As for Kuchar looking delighted, he does have a vacant lobotomised look most of the time so it's hard to tell, however, I wonder if he'll be so happy next time he comes third in a proper tournament. Doubt it.

Just found out that instead of going through the red button farce on BBC to get to the Olympics if you have Sky there are separate channels starting at 472.

It runs on android I think. I have never downloaded anything so it must have come with whatever was initially loaded onto the TV. I am not all that up on this sort of tech so might be wrong.
