Now Curran is out. This really is rather poor. OK we may still win. But Sanga is putting far too much pressure on the lower order batsmen.

Blaming the guy on 10 odd not out for others failures is a new one - he can't bat for them! TC with a shambolic 13 off 28 balls, no matter what is going on that is pants

Northants now clear favourites. Surrey and Sanga in particular seem totally unable to change gear as needed. (And wouldn't have been needed in first place if Sang hadn't got becalmed for over after over.)
Now Burke out. We deserve to lose this after playing so appallingly.

Disagree Olly - I'm not just talking about one or two overs. Sanga has been batting so slowly for a long period, as well as not taking the strike. He's just let things drift and put far too much pressure on the lower order batsmen to do the work.

He's been going at a strike rate of 80 and is currently 114*
He's the only reason we have a shot in the match for crying out loud!

Sanga did fine earlier in his innings, but he felt asleep when Sam Curran was batting reasonably - and he has failed to wake up since. He complelty mismanaged the situation - totally failed to control the strike.

Surrey win. Have to say well played Sanga at the very end - but we left it far, far too late for comfort.
Got to say well played to Dernbach - excellent bowling and then that partnership at the end.

A shame that Sangakkara didn't listen to everyone on here really....
Well played the GOAT - a truly magnificent knock - shame on everyone bar Dernbach as well for being so utterly useless with the willow

Well done Dernbach, Sanga got the winning runs, but he should never have let it get that close, anyway, all's well etc etc!

Re: SURREY VS NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP QUARTER FINAL
It's easy to see why it was so close:
The wicket of Foakes fell at 26.2 overs. Meaker was out at 47.4 overs. In that period of 21 overs and 2 balls Sanga scored just 27. He also faced just 46 of 128 available balls. I wasn't listening to commentary and it may well be that Northants played well to deny Sanga the strike. But even so, that was a very poor passage of play by Surrey. (I exempt Sam Curran from that criticism because he at least kept things moving).

I'm quite happy to be on the side of the guy who's just got 130* and millions of international runs
Yorks away in the semi final - no Roy - so Sanga is gonna have to score at least 170 for us to have a chance...

Re: SURREY VS NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP QUARTER FINAL
Di Venuto in his post match interview said he was disappointed with how Surrey batted, especially in last 10 overs. He said the team "lost all intent". Interesting that he criticised the other batsmen for leaving it up to Sanga - though tbf it would be difficult for him to criticise Sanga in this situation.
(He also thought the Northants total was well below par.)

Dernbach's in very good form in this competition. Not played that many matches but his figures are:
10 overs 4 wickets 39 runs (v Northants today)
3 overs 2 wickets 20 runs (v Middlesex - 16 over innings)
7 overs 3 wickets 33 runs (v Gloucs)
9 overs 4 wickets 41 runs (v Essex)

Dernbach is having an impressive season - I note his twelfth man duties in the championship recently have been getting good comments from Batty too - an ultimate team man it seems

No Roy for the s/f is indeed a big loss but Yorkshire provide the England ODI squad with Root, Bairstow Plunkett, Willey and Rashid. I don't think we should spend too much time feeling hard done by.

Re: SURREY VS NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP QUARTER FINAL
We do have the players - Sanga, of course, Davies, Foakes, Burns to notch up a decent overall total. But we'll probably depend heavily on bowlers. Pity Tom Curran seems to have had an off day yesterday. Burke actually did better than I feared with the ball, but I imagine Zaf will be back for the semi final, and that will also strengthen the batting.

Re: SURREY VS NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP QUARTER FINAL
I'd guess Sibley and Ansari slot in for Roy and Burke. Yorkshire's bowling will be significantly weakened from their semi, losing three of their front line bowlers to England duty. I'd probably have us as slight favourites.
