Re: SURREY VS YORKSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
Hmm ... the absence of Le Roy and Zaf set against England releasing Bairstow for Yorks kind of evens up the odds a bit, even though Yorks still miss Roooooooooooooot, Rashid, Plunkett and Willey on England duty. Surrey are on a roll in all forms of the game but Yorks have an incredibly strong squad.
I fancy Footitt might get the nod over Burke, not least as he's coming to this game off the back of career best figures. That would leave us potentially thin on batting with Sam at 6, Tom at 7 and Norah at 8 - all of whom look one place too high - and a genuine tail of Meaker JD and Footitt at nine ten jack. But I'm not sure the inclusion of Harinath or Burke for one of the bowlers would greatly strengthen the batting for a one day semi final.

Possible Yorkshire lineup:
Lyth, Lees, Ballance, Bairstow, Leaning, Bresnan, Rhodes, Hodd, Rafiq, Patterson, Carver

Difficult one - when he was selected for the QF, I had thought of Burke's bowling as a weak link - he can be very expensive. However, in that match he was actually quite economical, whereas his batting under pressure did little to advance his case as an all rounder.

Play the Baron and have a few overs of Sibley/Harinath as the 6th bowler in my opinion

Yorkshire win the toss and bowl - but the big news is his holiness himself Ollie Pope will make his county debut!

Batty says he would have bowled too.
Brookes play his first limited over matches for us since 2014, instead of the left spinner of Carver. Yorkshire attack very "samey" and could be meant and drink to Surrey's hitters.

Yorks win the toss and bowl. Surrey have selected Pope! Going with 5 bowlers (Currans, Dernbach, Meaker, Batty) with Sibley presumably as the additional option.

Both teams seem to have quite shorts batting lineups

What is Pope as a cricketer? As he was 9 on team listened Ipad assume a bowled.

Would imagine he actually bats higher - a keeper batsman of course!

Pope has recently been playing for England U19s against Sri Lanka, where he scored some runs. Also just been given a contract by Surrey - so this is a big vote of confidence in him.

So three wicketkeepers ? You can't go wrong
And one a Holy Man too...
Seriously I did think you'd be well advised to make do with five bowlers - hope it works for you Surrey chaps. Can't watch this myself (too tired anyway) but good luck

81 - 3 after 18 overs. Davies reaches 50* Foakes at the other end will hopefully be able to keep the score ticking along.

118 - 3 after 26 overs. 50 partnership by Davies and Foakes. Useful recovery by Surrey, but Yorks will be happy enough as overs slip away along with the chances of Surrey achieving a large total.

But then, of course, Surrey begin to let it slip as the dreaded 6th wicket partnership against Surrey flourishes again!

Olly's various postings sum up rather well the emotional rollercoaster of the day but, hey guys, we're back in another final at that other ground in London The Corp meanwhile probably has next week's winning Lottery numbers given his prophetic comment on how Interesting might do today.
SoS Junior and I intend to be at that other ground for the final: anyone else coming? (I might start a separate thread once we have tickets).

Lol!
A really excellent bowling performance by Surrey with all five bowlers contributing. Meaker the most expensive, but it was his spell that really put Yorks on the backfoot.
Needless to say, the bar is open! As it's Yorks we've beaten, I'm going for some of this! I gather that Yorks dropped both Davies and Foakes - not a good plan.

Great win....only just catching up with the day's events....sounds another superb team effort....good to see our bowling attack being able to defend a relatively modest total....nice also to see on the BBC website brief highlights too for us non Sky subscribers! Sadly I won"t be able to make the final this year...otherwise I'd have definitely been up for this...what a season this is turning out to be given where we were just a month or so ago....

Re: SURREY VS YORKSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
Fantastic win, I taped it, and have just caught up after unfortunately watching West Ham's tame effort!
Sensible recovery by Davies and Foakes, but I too thought we were a good 40 light after Pope's painful effort at the end.
Meaker's 'blast' certainly put us on top, without him ever bowling well! But we kept our nerve at the end, and deservedly scrambled through!
In my day, the full toss was the worst ball you could bowl..........I think it accounted for about 6 wickets today!
Wonderful week of cricket for Surrey, 1st Div status assured, and now another final, the early season depression is just a distant memory now! Well done to all, it's been a real team effort over the last few weeks

Thanks, Alfie! Surrey actually fielded 5 wicket keepers, including Sanga and Burns. (Burns came up through the Surrey ranks as a wicket keeper).
We'll need to work out in which situations our Pope is infallible!

Re: SURREY VS YORKSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
Shame on you jimbob for teasing our friend Olly for firing off a couple of messages here early yesterday which, though reasonable at the time, might look silly in hindsight*. Just like the way I sounded off angrily after Day 1 of our recent CC1 game @ Warks, since when seven near perfect days of 4-day cricket have seen us close out two good wins. (*As we all know, only the Corp can predict the future !!).
But well done all for having kept the faith since the nadir of that awful one wicket defeat @ Somerset which looked at the time like it might be the start of an unstoppable slide towards relegation, while we were at that time nowhere much in either one day competition.

Re: SURREY VS YORKSHIRE ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
Well, Surrey played the better cricket and deserved to win.
Fingers will be pointed at the Yorkshire batting, but we lost that because our bowlers were not good enough to cope with Davies and Foakes (who both played magnificently). We were gifted a fantastic positionat 3 wickets down (shockers from Hartley, Sanga & Burns) but did not have the class to capitalise.
That is now something like 8 semis in a row lost in the longer format one day stuff for us.

Don't mind at all, Corporal. Davies can bat and he definitely showed that in this game. It's his commitment I have an issue with.
Huge role performed as well by Meaker in this game. Even with Davies' ton and 90 from Foakes, it didn't look at the half-way stage as if we had quite enough runs on the board. Although he went for a few (as often the case), Meaks' 3 wickets to rip out the middle order were vital to us getting home.
Although belated, very considerable credit as well to Dernbach for sticking around in the quarter-final game so as to allow Sanga to produce his winning magic. [Unlike some of you chaps, I didn't have such a problem with Burke getting the nod for that game - Burkey has often chipped in usefully in one dayers and did so again the q-f, albeit not with the bat.]
