US Open - Day Six
Can Murray and Evans make it four British in the Fourth Round. Both face totally different challenges. Murray faces Lorenzo who had a marathon match lasting almost five hours in the previous round whilst Evans faces dual slam winner Stan Wawrinka. Also Del Potro is in action as are Dimitrov and Kyrgios.

Hi all.
Came back on the forum a few weeks ago after a years hiatus bus was looking for help.
Could Konta win this thing? She is 20/1 but is that worth a each way punt?

Re: US Open - Day Six
Murray expected to win. Evans expected to lose. Surely the gulf between Evans and Wawrinka is enormous so the best Evans can do is to make it competitive and to keep fighting right to the end. It would be nice if Evans could do a Konta and switch his tennis fortunes around by a change in mind set and commitment.

That may be pushing it a bit to win it. Not totally out of the question but unlikely.

Re: US Open - Day Six
I wonder if she can get to top 10 and maybe even into the WTA's final 8 thingy (sorry, can't remember what it's properly called).
I rarely look at WTA rankings so I don't know where the women stand points-wise or points-race-wise. I suppose Jo will have to win at least one more round to improve her actual ranking as she's defending last year's US Open points.
Actually I don't even know if WTA has a "race" like the ATP - or if it's the end of year rankings they use.

She's a good chance of reaching the semi-final - Sevastova next up, who is playing way above her ranking, and then either Keys or Wozniacki, both of whom I think she is in better recent form than. Likely then to have to get past Kerber or Kvitova in the SF and Serena in the final, which looks too much.
My impression with Konta is that she is now the sort of player who will normally beat those below her in the rankings, be competitive with those around her but struggles to make much of an impression against the absolute elite (top 3 or 4). Certainly a good two or three steps up from where she was at the start of last season.
WTA rankings are more clustered than the ATP - Only 400 points separated Keys in 9th and Konta in 14th before this tournament, and another couple of hundred gets you to 7th. Top 10 or possibly top 8 by season end is feasible.

Dominic Thiem handed a breadstick in the first set by Carreno Busta.

Thiem steadies the ship to go 5-3 up in the second set but cannot take a set point and Carreno Busta breaks and we are back on serve in the second set.

Thiem finally bags the second set to level the match up with the score 1-6 6-4.

It would seem that Thiem has things under control now as he leads 1-6 6-4 6-4.

Simona Halep came through in the end. Tough on Babos that she lost it on a double-fault. Great entertainment.

Early stages of JMDP v Ferrer.
Delpo leading 2-1 and up a break.
Tip for anyone thinking of tuning in : grab your sunglasses first - or you could be blinded by Delpo's outfit.

From 2-0 down, Ferrer won 5 games in a row but has just got broken back with a DF - Potro serving at 4-5. Weird set.

Yes it could !
I'm switching to Murray v Lorenzi.
Should be pretty straightforward for Andy this one.

I'd be shocked if this is anything other than straight sets win for Andy.

JMDP wins first set, but now has the requested the fashion advisor to come on to suggest an alternative to that hideous outfit.

As long as that isn't Thomas Berdych advising him.

Scruffy start by Andy or should I say careless. Dimitrov meanwhile is handing a lifeline to Jaoa Sousa. He leads 6-4 6-1 but trails 5-1 in the third set.

Del Potro now has his match by the scruff of the neck leading 7-6 5-2. Dimitrov has dropped the third set against Sousa.

Well well.
Which is the multi-Slam winner World No.2, and which is the 34 year-old more familiar with the Challengers Tour
Hasn't been that easy to tell so far. But hopefully Andy will switch on the turbo charger any time now ......

Might just be me but Murray is trying at the wrong times to push the boat out going for winners and missing. Lots of errors and return game has been poor but lets not downplay how well Lorenzi has done.

Could someone please tell Pat Cash that he is not being paid for his (dreadful ) 'commentary' by the word.
Although ....... the more I think about it ..... maybe he is
Regardless, he has virtually no technical knowledge to impart.

Indeed.
And safe to say that in this form he is once again a serious contender on the big stages.

Lorenzi a break up in the second set. Very odd performance from Murray. Impressed by Lorenzi who must be physically shattered.

Shocking from Murray this. No rhythm, no timing and unforced errors and sitters missed. Lorenzi leads 5-2. If there is justice in the world he will take this set. Dan about to start.

Re: US Open - Day Six
Good rally for Murray to win and then break. He is not playing well so has to play simple and work himself into the match. That long rally may have tuned him in. Murray knows he can outlast Lorenzi, so Murray just needs to slow the match down, play simple, take the pace off a tad, keep Lorenzi on the baseline and hope that his game will click. IF it clicks then he will run away with the match.

BBC commentators saying Lorenzi is taking Murrays balls early and this is causing Murray to rush and pushing him out of his comfort zone.

Can't believe some of the stuff we're seeing from Lorenzi in these longer rallies.

Re: US Open - Day Six
BBC commentators also saying the acoustics of the stadium is likely causing him a problem - Murray has complained in an earlier round that he can't hear the ball being struck due to the various noises and this is also affecting him - in terms of precise timing of the balls being returned.

Well it won't help if your first serve percentage is so low as Murray's is.
