Ugalde Eye Gouge
Just thought I'd highlight how Frak the citing process is across leagues in rugby.
So Brive fly half Ugalde took exception to conceding a try and decides to gouge the scorer in probably the most blatant and horrific gouge attempt I've seen..
Massive ban right?
No
14 weeks
1 week more then Ashton. Although it is 14 more then Franks. 3 instances, 3 very very different panels, 3 different comps and 3 comically different sentences.
Here is the incident...

Total rectum.
Mind-boggling someone would do that. Beyond blatant. Should be 6 months. Minimum.
We have to get this crap out of our sport.

Deplorable. Agree should be a year minimum. Is it just that the french authorities dare not stand up to the club owners and give appropriate sentences?

This complete lack of consistency is where World Rugby do need to make their mark sooner rather than later.

The wonderful world of French rugby. How on earth this justifies a pitiful 14 weeks is beyond me. Further to a previous post I made about dumbing down the physicality of the sport, this kind of action needs to be stamped out; the only way this is going to happen is to hand out lengthy bans. This act was not an accident and there could be no case for mitigating circumstances and as such should receive a minimum of 2 years.

That looks to be pretty awful - looked to be intent too.
That's one of the worst things a player could do to another and it needs to be stamped on.

Re: Ugalde Eye Gouge
What's worse is that after the initial contact he keeps at it, even as the player getting gouged tries to fight him off. I can not see any mitigation for that.
Where are World Rugby though?
They're very quick to step in when the case is high profile in the public eye (Marler gypsygate) (and yes bad pun...).
Or when it's one of their brands effected (AB's Haka 10m rule).

He follows it up with his other hand after.
There's some incidents where its difficult to assign intent. This is not one of them. It should be at least a year. If he was never allowed on a rugby pitch again i would not mind.

Maybe there should be a social media out rage - to World Rugby - as that looks terrible
And as you say, follows up with the second hand...

Re: Ugalde Eye Gouge
Showed the video at hospital this morning and the team all thought the guy should be banned for life.
Clear, deliberate intent to injure.

They stepped in with Marler because procedure was not followed in that case, why is it so many still complain about it yet seem to not know the details?

I'm not complaining about it, I'm just pointing out that they have stepped in before and could do so again.

Look at the way he hooks his finger before going in to inflict maximum pain.
He shouldn't be suspended, he should be looking for a new career. Several years ban wouldn't be remiss.

Agreed. What sort of person deliberately does something like that? I just can't get my head around it!
