Westwood with not the best of starts, driving into the bunker on the first and then missing a tiddler for a a half on the second, 2 down after 2.

McIlroy with some nice tidying up putts from short range so far, he's made three from distances 3-6 feet or so on the first four holes.

Europe with some big putts (one in each match in fact) in the last 5-10 minutes or so, including yet another one from McIlroy, though all for halves. McIlroy and Sullivan look likely to move to 2UP on 6 after Mickleson goes out of bounds with his drive.

Well I suppose if you want to make a mess of a hole you might as well do it in style. Mickleson and Fowler fail to be on the green after their sixth (!) shot on the sixth, and Europe go 2UP in that one. Spieth and Reed with another birdie, going 3UP in the first match.

You would think with only four matches on course it should be possible to show nearly all the shots played, particularly with Spieth out first ensuring they're going round in a pace that is only slightly quicker than a disabled snail... Pretty ordinary coverage again.

Reed with a bit of a gift on that last hole, 2UP keeps Europe in it if they can make a few putts. Europe won't want to be more than a point down after this session for sure.

I really don't get why Willett would need to be "benched" just because he might get a little more stick than the others. If he isn't playing it has to be because he had a shocker in the practice rounds.

Do any of you really think his brothers article is the reason he will not play as often as we thought he should?

Excellent from Reed and Spieth you have to say: hardly made an error and plenty of birdies, and they win 3&2. Rose and Stenson barely made a putt (none at all from Rose) which was the difference.

With Walker and Johnson having turned their match around this is turning into a very good session for US.

From what we've seen, which hasn't been much admittedly, Pieters has gone OK. He's made a few putts, and his drive on that last hole was excellent. Westwood though looks to have had a shocker: missed two tiddlers, sprayed drives, etc. Obviously given we've seen about 12 shots from this whole match it's hard to judge...

Credit to the US. Played very well, made a few putts, plus a BIG chip-in, and big mistakes at crucial times from Rory/Sully & Segio?Kaymer.

And Rose & Stenson didn't make a thing - a ten-footer from Henrik and nothing more than 4 foot elsewhere. They'll do it again.

lw1 can become a VC, which might be a shame as he seems to get on great with Willett.

Put Pieters back out, loosen him up, perhaps w/Rory.

A BIG afternoon for Europe.

I am not feeling the buzz with this Ryder Cup and was a little disappointed with that article from Willets brother. Maybe it is the US's turn to win and win big this time round. The European team seem to be filled with rookies and there doesn't seem to be that many from beyond the United Kingdom: two Spanish, one German, one Swede, one Belgium, one from Northern Ireland, six from England.

Loved to finally witness a foursomes session where USA didn't puke up a couple of matches late. Also liked the attitude of all the Americans interviewed. They were all happy they won, but to a man they were not over the top as they realize it's still a long way to 14-1/2.

IMO team USA had to go with Spieth and Reed again this PM... But Jordan really didn't play that well after his hot start. He better pick it up big-time cuz I ain't believing Stenson and Rose miss virtually everything like they did this AM.

Agree, they look pretty focussed.
Crucial mistakes at crucial times for Europe, especially Westwood of course, but Rory/Sully as well and Kaymer really didn't do much and had that horror chip. Don't think we'll see him with Sergio again.

Why would you negate your hottest player (Rory) with someone who hasn't played well since the early season?

And then hamper you second hottest player (Pieters) with a player only there because he is best buds with the captain?

Why would you bench the current Masters champion in the first session?

Europe pretty much got what the captains decisions deserved. DC proving that captain only matters if they fuck it up.

Which player will take the phil role and through DC under the bus on Sunday.
