To keep it balanced I will also point out that I think Phil should have dropped himself for this afternoons matches.

I hope you guys in what Republicans here call "Old Europe" are getting better coverage than we are - haven't seen any live golf now for ten minutes or more.
Too exciting to interrupt like this. Good lord.

Very very evenly poised right now; would say Europe must squeak the lead going into the singles.
Crowd a little quieter this afternoon, same as yesterday really. Even lw1 holing putts. But Sergio missing tiddlers.

Rory got a fan kicked out. Apparently he asked security to eject a guy that shouted "suck a d**k Rory" in his face coming off the 8th.

LoveIII got a bit carried away pairing Koepka and Dustin methinks. What a waste to sit Snedeker the way he's putting this week, and he and Koepka ham-and-egged it perfectly twice already.
Work to do by Europe, really need Sergio & Kaymer to win their match.

Ridiculously good golf this afternoon. I should think the worst pair is going to be about 4 under for the front nine. Cumulative -38 so far with the first group just though 10.

Looking mighty good for the Yanks to win the "team" portion of this event. None of that will matter if they don't win tomorrow, however.

Have to say as boisterous as Patrick Reed has been this afternoon the match has been played in great spirit.
Lots to do tomorrow if Stenson and Rose can't steal a half point here.

Reed was pretty freaking fabulous.
Think the Garcia-Kaymer pairing was mailed in before Garcia-RCB won their last 3 holes.
But I also wonder if it was Darren Clarke's ego that made him bring his veteran picks back in play. Can't see why it should be more important to get Kaymer and Westy warm for the singles than Sully, RCB, Fitz or Wood.

Re: This Is The Official v2 Golf Board's Ryder Cup Thread: Please Post Here!
Somebody give Reed a cigar, that was some wonderful golf from him, considering how little Spieth contributed to their match this afternoon.
While hindsight is a wonderful thing, you have to question picking Kaymer. He did find a couple of birdies, but all too often it looked like Garcia playing on his own out there (and doing a very good job on the whole, to be fair). Why split a pairing that had been successful with one and a half points from two matches, to put in someone who really wasn't playing well? Madness IMO.
Feel sorry for Wood also, who played very well this morning.
To a degree you get where Clarke was coming from, going with his tried and trusted pairings for the crucial session (exception of Pieters, playing too well to sit out, obviously), but surely backing the form players would have been a better call?
Westwood's afternoon rather summer up his career. Some very fine play indeed for quite a bit of it, but when it got to the crunch his putting let him down: two really poor misses on the last two holes, if he knocks both in, Europe win the match and go into tomorrow's singles only a point down. As it is, it's going to be very difficult. Just not enough players in form IMO. McIlroy, Pieters, Garcia all look good, Stenson and RCB have done pretty well too, but that leaves rather a lot who haven't contributed enough (albeit some haven't really been given the opportunity).

You do wonder. Kaymer has played as many matches as Sully, Fitz and Wood put together, and played rather less well than all of those from what I've seen. Wood in particular was an integral part of a winning team in the morning, then misses out in the afternoon (seemed pretty gutted about it in his interview too). In contrast, I think everyone has played at least two matches for the US, and not sure anyone but Reed and Spieth have played all four (Europe will have five ever-presents).

See my comments before the afternoon session started. Massive error by DC today in his fourball line up.
Even if he didn't know that RCB would turn it around it was clear that Westie and Kayme should have been nowhere near todays play.
Poor captains picks will be the undoing of DC. Thankfully someone pressured him into taking Thomas.

The problem is he had nobody else to pick. With so many rookies in the team already he couldn't pick more than one, and Pieters was the obvious choice.

Helluva performance by Patrick Reed today... And to do it all with 180 extra #'s on his shoulders.
Speaking of guys who sucked today... Thank you for the magnanimous gift Lee Westwood... Hope Jordan draws Lee in singles tomorrow as he's probably the only Euro Spieth has a chance of hanging with.

Not sure I remember a Ryder Cup with more marvelous shots than this one... From both sides. But isn't it still amazing how many holes are lost by missed little tiddler putts.

Re: This Is The Official v2 Golf Board's Ryder Cup Thread: Please Post Here!
There was another obvious choice. He had won two PGATournaments including a WGC event in the last 12 months. Although not all of them counted towards the standings, he had earned more OWGR points in the last 12 month than all except three players on the Euro Team.
I called it four weeks ago. Choosing Lee Westwood was a Lifetime Achievement Pick that reeks of nepotism.
IMO, Westwood would have been picked had GMAC, LUKE, POULTER and CASEY had made the team instead of Sully, Fitz, RCB and Wood. There was no way that Lee Westwood was not going to be a player on the 2016 Ryder Cup team.

DC seems to be in utter fear of "rookies", even those with multiple PGAT wins this season.
Pedro
Seems you have fallen for DC's rookie mantra. Where apparently players in poor form or those who had to stop playing on US soil due to dire form are more appropriate than "rookies" who are playing well.

I called Oak Hill and I called Medinah, but can't see any way Europe can win this one - their best players aren't playing well enough and the bottom half of the US Team are playing better than the bottom six of Europe's. Thomas Bjorn's gonna have a job to do en Paris.

If DC is to be believed Wood, Sulli, Fitz amd RCB are playing worse than Westwood and Kaymer. So you are correct, the bottom half of the US team are playing much better than Europe's.

Coverage was awful today. 4 matches on the course at any given time and they failed to show even half the shots in most of them. Very poor.kwinigolfer wrote:I hope you guys in what Republicans here call "Old Europe" are getting better coverage than we are - haven't seen any live golf now for ten minutes or more.
Too exciting to interrupt like this. Good lord.
But what's even worse... Last couple of times the online RC site at least had a running shot by shot description of every match... But that disappeared this year to. So instead we were held hostage to a slow updating scoreboard and what little NBC chose to share with us.

I agree with you that this is more than likely going to the USA. At least we get to see Rory vs Reed. If Rory plays his best it will be pretty one sided.

Kaymer played pretty well this afternoon but hardly made a putt, along with so many Europeans overread putts for two straight days. Rose and Stenson among others that did the same thing. And: Not Kaymer's fault that Sergio missed two crucial shorties.
And Westwood played OK, holed a couple of snakes, but those four tiddlers missed will haunt him (and DC) for ever.

EDIT: In fact, looking at that line-up, I see a glimmer of hope for Old Europe after all. Don't think Love is that smart front-loading his aces.

In 2012 he telegraphed his line-up and Olly got his response spot on and their good play made Woods irrelevant.
But Europe's Team was much deeper then; Love has got Zach as 12th man and that is the best he could have done, but seriously question the wisdom of challenging Europe's best when he knew damn well DC had no choice.
PS: Patrick Reed was beyond brilliant this afternoon.

I've always though that the captains job is a bit overstated. But I do think clarke has made a mess of this. 3 players with just one appearance is going to be hard for them in singles. Kaymer playing again yesterday afternoon. And the westwood pick looks poor.
