Rory ran out of magic . . . . . . need Sergio & Rose to win now and see where that takes us.

Peiters looked amazing.
Reed even more so.
We need Rickie to half and FIGJAM to do the same or better against pea brain.

With only 2 points in it at the moment a stronger European tail could have provided an interesting finish. But instead we have team USA strolling to a relatively easy victory.

Fantastic match with Sergio & Phil, seventeen birdies between them and one hole to go. Better even than Reed and Rory.

Others:
RCB was good, and Pieters is a new star.
Rory good, Stenson and Garcia too despite missing a few important tiddlers. Rose didn't put well enough, and Kaymer, Willett and Westy were disappointing.
Verdict:
All in all the Americans putted better and the Euro team was to shallow.
Oh, and by the way: PJ Willett was right...

Wood did well with the two chances he had.
As for PJ, he should've taken a hint from House Of Cards' Urquhart: "You might think that, I couldn't possibly comment."!!
Maybe he should go to his old man's quasi-confessional and admit he buggered up his brother's Ryder Cup experience?

Sundays singles: Continental Europe 4,5 - GB&I 0 ("nil")
Finally the shift in European golf is starting to surface. Expect the next Ryder Cup more continental than ever before with a captain Björn leading in France an even more GB&I-less Euro team.

I was probably as critical as anyone over this task force thing... But listening to these guys, there's little question the players bought into it all the way. And in the end, THAT'S what counts, not what any of us think.

Not sure DC will be hung be his balls but there might be some reach around action between him and lee.

Don't think we need one, but it surely didn't help that DC & McGinley seem apparently not to be on speaking terms.
As an absolute minimum we need to check out the qualifying process. Is it healthy (for anyone else other than the ET who own the damn thing) that qualifying begins so early?
But, hey, be pleased to eat humble pie again in 2024. But not before.

I kid....I like Darren and Lee and couldn't be too critical of his Westwood choice then, so I'm not gonna now with hindsight. Considering his rookie situation his approach made sense to me. Just didn't work out... I mean really, REALLY didn't work out.

Rory and Willett are correct!
Rosey just didn't make any putts, the difference between possibly 4-1 and 2-3. Course set-up the same for both and as advertised by LoveIII beforehand.

IMO course setup was brilliant for the Americans... It played to our strengths and de-emphasized our weaknesses. Same as was attempted the other way around at Gleneagles and Celtic Manor.... as it should be.

Mac,
Apart from some frustrations I thought it was great.
Hazeltine was a terrific course if your play was good enough, no complaints about the golf. USA made miles of putts and we bottled inches of putts, pretty much from 1 through 12 on the team.
I don't think the European crowds get nasty like the Minnesotans apparently did, and the Bostons definitely did; good humour is alive in Old Europe even if not in the New World.
But the worst thing about the week for me was the PJWillett crap, probably meant in drunken good humour but definitely unfunny and way ott and quite possibly ruined his brother's RC experience. Even if the galleries proved him right on several occasions.

So who's the next generation of players to take over?
Westy is probably done, Stenson not getting younger, Rose/Garcia entering late 30's. Not sure we'll see Donald again, but hopefully Gmac/Poults and Kaymer. And much as I like Wood and RCB I fear they're one-hit wonders.
Pieters of course, Olesen I reckon, but what will happen to Fitz and Sully? Are they the real deal? And will Willett be back?

Beef for 2018!
We all know why the Yanks won ... WE understand the concept of "team" and WE have proper names.
On a serious note, lots of experienced gained by many of the European rookies and I fully expect them to recapture this thing in 2 years. But, you never know and until then celebration in full swing in Minnesota.

Team Europe needs to ensure all its qualified golfers sign up for the ET. Casey, Knox, Laird, Jon Rahm, you name 'em. We have to find a reasonable way to accommodate our best. Even pr1cks like Casey if he's good enough. Which he would've been this week.
Lots of faith in Matty Fitz, a surefire star of the future. And there are plenty of others on the conveyor belt, Hatton for one, and hopefully there's life in some old dogs like Wiesberger and McDool.
Sr,
Did you see the BEEF Arby's ad? Not particularly original but about the only golfer I saw in any commercials during the RC.
PS: Sure you felt you got the perfect result in the epic between Phil & Sergio . . . . . . . . .

Congrats to the Americans. Fully deserved. Credit to the American players for their golf and the way they handled the (sometimes OTT) partisan atmosphere.
Patrick Reed, take a bow. Modern Lanny Wadkins - made for this and he'll be a pain in the bum for Europe for a long time.
And so to France in 2 years. Should be interesting, but I hope not quite so OTT on the macho stuff.
Only down side? Mickleson being on the winning side. Ah well...

The Mickleson Garcia match was an absolute joy to watch, amazing golf. Similar to his Sunday round at Troon. He must in his quieter moments think. "Poopie I've played 2 of the best rounds of my life this year on the biggest of stages and all I have to show for it is an Open runners up medal and a half point. This game is bloody cruel sometimes!!"

I would guess those are pretty much the candidates (MAJ & Bjorn) possibly add Harrington into the mix as a vice along with Westwood & Poulter. I know Howell & Lawrie are pretty close to the selection process too. I don't see either as a Captain but probably both good Vices.

Olazabal has done it already. Seems to be the approach now that you only get one shot at it. Otherwise I would have liked to see a few guys like Langer and McGinley get a second go.

Re: This Is The Official v2 Golf Board's Ryder Cup Thread: Please Post Here!
Well the inevitable happened. Think we were all in agreement that the US team was stronger on paper, the question was always could they get the attitude / team ethic right. And the answer was an emphatic YES. They looked solid right through the line-up, and Reed was truly outstanding, a talismanic performance leading and inspiring from the front in every session.
Overall I thought that Europe was tactically out-thought as well as out-played. After the 4-0 massacre in the first session Clarke was forced to reshuffle his plans, he was on the back foot from day one and didn't look well prepared, seemed over reliant on the strategy of sticking with the experienced players. Rory admitted that Clarke stumbled upon his best pairing of Pieters / McIlroy by accident.
I think Westwood was the sensible captain's pick to balance out all the rookies. However, once the matches started and Lee looked out of form, Clarke should have acted decisively and benched him. RCB also looked strong to me, inexplicable decision to drop him and break up his partnership with Garcia. Sergio was fantastic, what a performance under pressure on Sunday, if only could putt like that in stroke play he would have a few majors on his mantelpiece.
Ultimately, the Europe team looked very shallow going into the matches and probably would have lost regardless of pairings. I think the qualification process is a mess, I’ve always maintained that the captain should have a lot more picks (maybe even 12). With the current process you see Willett qualifying comfortably, when he’s been MIA since his Master’s win.
Well done USA!

Justin Rose with a moan about the easy course set up. However, it comes across as sour grapes. Basically, what he's saying is that his putting isn't very good so easy pin positions cancels out his superior ball striking.
The course is the same for both teams, nothing wrong with the US setting up the course to their advantage.

Re: This Is The Official v2 Golf Board's Ryder Cup Thread: Please Post Here!
First off, congratulations to the US, who were all-round the stronger team and thoroughly deserved their win. They were superbly led by Reed, but all the players contributed to what was in the end a comfortable win.
Some other thoughts from me:
Europe's team lacked depth, as has been said, and didn't help that one of their leaders Rose didn't make a putt throughout. Five players contributed no points at all, I don't think any US player did.
Wood and Sullivan looked like they left a few putts short on Sunday, and you can't help but think that may have been a lack of time on the course. Very hard to come in cold having only played basically half a round worth of strokes (foursomes) and have to perform in the pressure cooker of singles situations. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I did feel sorry for them and Fitzpatrick, think Clarke could have used them a bit better.
Pieters was magnificent, what a player he will be! RCB also very good indeed, and a shame Clarke left him out on Saturday afternoon.
Garcia-Mickleson was some match! I was so happy they both made those putts at the last, the quality had been so high to that point that it was the only right way for the match to finish.
On the course, I'm not too fussed. As others have said, home advantage. I would personally have liked more rough, as I think bad shots should be punished, and it seemed that errant drives more often than not still gave the players a good look at the flag, but the course is the same for both teams. US won because they played better golf, and especially made more putts.
