UFC 131 Carwin v JDS
So who do you think will win this No.1 contender for the heavyweight title fight? These are two very powerful and frightening men! Personally as fast as Dos Santos is I've been watching some of those Carwin training camp videos and have to say a leaner Carwin looks very dangerous! At first I thought JDS might just do it if he could take the fight into the second or third round and tire Carwin out but since Carwin has lost like two stone and changed his diet his cardio should be much better. I think Carwin will win and either by KO or TKO. As for who I want to win I'm not actually bothered, so if Dos Santos manages to knock Carwin out then that's fine by me but either way I think there will be fireworks in this fight!

i would like JDS to win as on his stint on the ultimate fighter he came across really well.
Yes carwin has slimmed down but i just never get the feel from him he has much to his game, not that you need to when you hit like a train i just reckon with him now being more mobile the first round wont be like against Brock, coming out all or nothing i think his approach will change meaning this is a much a test for him as Junior resulting in JDS taking the decision.

I agree Boomdangle - i can see a decision victory for JDS.
He is technically the better striker and if Carwin can't use his wrestling to take him down then i can only see a victory for JDS

I can't see Carwin pacing himself tbh, and even though all the promo videos etc are designed to hype up the fight there is an element of truth to them - Carwin is a bulldozer and I think he will want to finish the fight early and in explosive fashion. However, if JDS can withstand an initial attack by Carwin, maybe counter to give Carwin a taste of his own power the fight will slow down and Carwin will be more cagey. Then JDS might win.

It's a very tough fight to call. I hear Carwin has dropped some weight. Hopefully that means he has been working on his stamina a lot more. I can see it going either way but I'm edging towards Carwin.

I would go for Carwin as well.
Surely he must have learnt something from his defeat at the hands of Lesnar. Its all about pacing and cardio.

Dos Santos just to quick for shane, controlled him with the jab, different fight against Cain, tough one to call.

Re: UFC 131 Carwin v JDS
Judging from their last fights Velasquez and JDS are very similar fighters - they both dismantled their opponent in the same way, although Cain got the stoppage but if you compare both first rounds then they are very alike. Personally what I don't want to see happen is both men boast they are going to knock the other one out with their superior boxing/punch power only for one to get embarrassed like Carwin was. If Cain is as good a wrestler as they say then I would like to see him try to gain control from the ground; I think Cain should faint with some jabs to keep JDS off posture then go in hard and fast for the takedown, really slam JDS onto the floor and go into either ground and pound or try for a submission. JDS hasn't really been tested from his guard position yet, although he is apparently a brown belt in BJJ. I just think JDS has never truly been taken outside of his comfort zone yet.

Re: UFC 131 Carwin v JDS
yeah Carwin was taken apart and in the end was a bloody mess - never thought Carwin would be dominated the way he was - JDS obviously has some sting to his jabs because Carwin never really pulled the trigger and let his hands fly. I think what the fight showed was that Carwin's power had compensated for and masked some defficiencies in his game. I don't think Carwin is the complete fighter and will definitely need to improve his takedowns and grappling if he wants to challenge for the heavyweight title in the future.
