Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
First topic message reminder :
Actually Davie, they didn't fit yours (apologies; 'idiocy' is a bit strong). Your earlier comments were all about how he'd actually done something terrible/illegal i.e. told them how to get around 3rd party ownership (he didn't) with the possible implication that he'd been knowingly involved in it (no evidence of this), took £400k for dodgy seminars (he didn't and he said he'd have to clear it with the FA) etc. You wanted him to be a crook from the off.
You also claimed Ben and I said he was 'innocent' - we said no such thing.
You never took S_R's approach re. his position being untenable because he was England manager, the one thing he probably falls foul of. His comments re. Hodgson/Nevile were unfortunate, but this was a private conversation and, actually, big deal. Seriously, the next poor schmuck who takes this on should treat the media as they deserve.
There may well be more to this - we'll see. Until then, the only thing he's 'guilty' of is putting himself in a stupid position cf. the FA's comments re. FIFA etc and forcing the FA to ask him to fall on his sword. S_R's right with this; the FA had little choice really.

Super
Forgot to say I watched the new Top Gear. I am sure the car bits are really good if you are a car person but who the hell enjoys the cringe worthy banter in the studio scenes? May and Clarkson can be funny in some contexts but they cannot pull of the poorly scripted comedy of the studio sections.
I think Stewart Lee still sums up my thoughts on Hammond.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Exactly like I said Mac. Cinematically it is good to watch and in comparison to the dreadful BBC Top Gear with Evans it's a great improvement.
I'm sure in future they will make the "chat" less frequent and concentrate more on the car and challenge stuff that they are good at.
I presume you are referring to Lee wishing that Hammond had died in the crash and that his head had rolled off in front of his wife? I'd say even that Clarkson and his cronies scripted "jokes" are funnier than that.
Not surprised you like Lee though, he's very much the "comedian" of the SJW and those who consider themselves "intellectual" Where in fact, he just comes across as a sad, pathetic man.

I found it very additive and watched the entire first series in 3 evenings.
It's a bit ET, a bit Stephen King, a bit Goonies, very 80s nostalgic
Thought it was decent enough.
Agree that netflix is better for tv shows than films.
Watched SOA and Dexter on netflix.
Thought both were very good.

I have no idea who "Lee" is but to me that description sums up Clarkson, May and Hammond rather well

I know the world is getting a little bit crazy but thankfully not to the point where a guy like me isn't a Lee fan.
PS. I think there are a few Stewart Lee shows on Netflix.

On the whole I just don't find him funny Mac. I prefer his old partner Richard Herring, he doesn't take himself as seriously and isn't as bitter. Hitler Moustache was good.
I do however like his take on that fat waster James Corden.

Not a fan of James Corden.
He is doing pretty well for himself though.
Someone I don't find funny at all is Jack Whitehall.

I agree West, Corden is terrible and Whitehall is one for the teenagers I think.
The absolute worst though is Russel Brand. Not funny, and a terrible person.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
You know what Mac, I find comedians are a bit seasonal if you know what I mean, they have their good spells and their bad spells but every single one of them has a limited shelf life and every single comedian is over-exposed.
I enjoy Dave Gorman because his shows are cleverly thought out and his way of presenting is original rather than laugh out loud funny all the time.
I find myself disliking more than I like though, for example, I don't get Ricky Gervais and I just find the likes of the rest to have had their day.
I used to go to the Comedy Club in Edinburgh when I lived there, and that was good, but I couldn't really say I was a "fan" of any comedian, some of them have their moments, but many like Mickey Flanagan, Jack Whitehall, Jimmy Carr, Noel Fielding and Omid Djhalili etc just don't do anything for me.
Never really found women to be particularly good comedians either, maybe Victoria Wood had her moments, but so many who appear on these panel shows are just there for the BBC Demographic Requirement. Sarah Pascoe is ok, but not many others.
I find comedians just try too hard.

Navy - I just Googled it and the one I found came from the Sun. BUT - their quote states it's from an interview with the Sunday Times which is a pay site on interweb.

Eh, yes, it would mean she's been indoctrinated and lacks the ability to think logically.

Not sure it's the most shocking thing. Have a look at her parliamentary voting record - does not come across as a caring, we're all in it together type.
Not sure what Blair has got to do with it? Or is it just whataboutery?

I mentioned Blair because your inference that May's indoctrination or inability to think logically was a Tory trait, when in fact it's shared by any religious person or any party demonstrated by Blair, but why let a perfectly good equivocation get in the way of bashing Tories?
Why even bring up her voting record? It's not relevant to anything on this thread. Mac brought up a quote, whether it's true or not, and somehow you've segue to it being about "being in it together" Why?

Of course her voting record has to with religion. Baby jebus taught us to help one another. Have you not heard any of her speeches? That's all she bleats on about - fairness for all, in it together etc etc. She then cuts disability benefit and lowers corporation tax.super_realist wrote:I mentioned Blair because your inference that May's indoctrination or inability to think logically was a Tory trait, when in fact it's shared by any religious person or any party demonstrated by Blair, but why let a perfectly good equivocation get in the way of bashing Tories?

Lowering Corporation Tax is a good thing though if you want to attract inward investment.

You can't see how cutting benefits to those in need while slashing the costs to big business who are holding enough off shore currency in tax havens to cover the costs of several economies could be seen as uncharitable at best and a work of evil at worst? Fair enough.
