I'll do it, but you've all seen my work, it's not up to much. At least not until GC comes in and tidies it up and makes me seem semi competent.

Also we can discuss Hardie's transfer to Glasgow with CDP. Something about playing in the top cup competition in Europe. In exchange, Edinburgh get Adam Ashe and Hugh Blake.

There's a rumour that Edinburgh are interested in trading Duncan Weir for a catering size crate of KitKats.

Just for clarity the rumour is that we'll give the team duncan weir & family sized crate of kitkats. It's literally a sweetener for someone to take him off our hands.

Big Greg Peterson has just re-signed for another two years. He has always done ok as a squad playing second row for the Warriors and should be fit again in the new year, which will be good.
It does beg the question though that if all are fit we will end up with to many second rows so the obvious conclusion is that someone will be off. We do kind of know that the squad budget needs to be kept under control next year.
Johnny G is not going anywhere, at least for the foreseeable
Cummings and Hunter-Hill are the young prospects who won't be costing very much anyway, so will no doubt also be around.
Big Chewy, the Namibian is around for at least one more year as well and Big Brian is obviously fancied by Dave Rennie and could easily be kept on.
The one who may be moving on could easily be Tiny Tim. He will no doubt be looking for a decent contract at this stage in his career and could no doubt command one elsewhere if he was to move.
We would miss him if he was to go, but it might be the lesser of several potential evils if that was to be the case.
There are definitely going to be some interesting announcements concerning the squad in the new year.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there were 50 contracts to be renewed between Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as a complete re-shuffle in the coaching staff for both club teams and the SRU.
Christmas might be cancelled for the big wigs at HQ with all this to work through!

Hey, anyone can make the group stages. You aren't a proper European giant until you've played in a semi-final.
I actually rate Ashe and Blake. Had you said Wilson I'd have met you off the bus.

Also I figured that a duel is more your style FES. Shotgun LangiLangi as my second

It appears that Ryan Grant is off to Brive. Probably a good move for him.

Going for a loan till the end of the season apparently but very unlikely that he will come back to Glasgow. His is a very large contract that we need to get rid of and spend on someone else.
It will be a decent chance for him to get some games in though and put himself back in the shop window. He is certainly young enough to play on for a few more years if he can find some form and fitness, things that sadly seem to have eluded him over the past couple of seasons.
He has been a good player for Glasgow and the fans will wish him well for the future.

Re: Edinburgh and Glasgow: Ongoing Banter Thread XIV (It's still personal)
Adam Ashe just signs up for another couple of years as well. Glasgow getting started on the signing up business before xmas this year. Good to have a few in the bag now.
I don't see him playing for Scotland this 6N after his prolonged him away and the current level of competition. He will be a good player to have around when the internationalists are away though and will get the chance to make his claim for the summer tour.
We still don't really know just how good a player he is or could be. Hopefully we will find out over the next couple of years.

Big risk to give a 2 year deal to a player so injury prone - hopefully he can put it all behind him

Agreed. But with Ashe, plus the two academy back-rows signing pro contracts, I wonder if that signifies that Strauss might be let go?

Was it that article that put Strauss and Grant on £450k combined? Strauss does offer something different but his ball carrying has faltered this past year and a half (I think his offloading game in particular stopped so people were able to tackle lower reducing his effectiveness considerably). A pure out and out bulldozer in LangiLangi is considerably cheaper even if his rugby IQ is not there yet. You already have Fagerson and Wynne coming through who play at 8 as well as Wilson (who has had a great 3 months). Ashe at this point is a pay as you play candidate a la Gilchrist and Vernon.
Short hand, you have 5 guys covering 8 and a guy who is not a core member of the pack (Fagerson, Brown, Gray at this point are the spine of the pack) asking for top wages with little money available.
Another leap is the signing of Matty Smith. He would give Glasgow 4 out-and-out opensides (Favaro, Fusaro, Blake, Smith). Has Favaro priced himself out or is Blake heading back to Edinburgh?

Re: Edinburgh and Glasgow: Ongoing Banter Thread XIV (It's still personal)
Favaro has been a great addition to Glasgow and is a firm fans favourite due to the way he plays but he is also a little bit of a luxury as he rarely manages to string more than two games together and he may not be considered the best value for money. Having said that, I would be very reluctant to let him go as his commitment is the embodiment of playing for Glasgow. He just needs to be managed well and you have to have some backup.
Matty Smith is promising, but has not even played a game yet and the general feeling is that Blake is not coming back (for reasons that are not entirely clear), so the openside listing is not likely to change all that much this season. I can't imagine Simone not staying on.
Josh Strauss is probably the most difficult one to be decided this year. He is going to be expensive to keep and may be slightly past his best, but as he showed on Friday night, he still has very good games in him and he really does bring leadership to the team. I expect it will come down to money with Josh as he could undoubtedly get a better offer away from Glasgow but may want to stay on and play for Rennie as he is very settled here and will know that he will be managed much better than he would in England or France.
I hope he stays as well. In two years time, Ashe and Wynne may be much more established and can take over his mantle.

Jaysus, familiarity has bred contempt with Strauss.
Apart from being injured, what has he actually done wrong?

Usuall scottish thing, we were building him up before he became scottish as the best player on the planet who was going to lead us to multiple 6 nations and the world cup. Then when he actually wore the thistle and didnt set the heather alight and even worse lost out for the jersey to actual scottish born player we felt cheated and had been made fools of. In reality Strauss is still Struass its just our perception has changed. *see CDP*

Josh Strauss has been a great player for Glasgow and judging by the game against Racing, still is.
Would we like to keep him for another couple of years, yes undoubtedly. Can we afford to, that is less clear. He is probably one of the highest earners already and has a market value, other teams will likely be able to offer him more than we can. We may not be able to offer him any more than he is currently on.
Whether he goes or stays then depends much more on what he wants to do. Does he settle for stability and probably better management or does he decide at this stage of his career to cash in. You would not blame him if he choose the latter.
It is true that we have not seen the best of him in a Scotland shirt but I don't think that diminishes him in the slightest. I think a lot of that was around the timing of the world cup and his qualification. He just did not get the time to bed into the team in that tournament, but hardly played badly when he did get the chance. If he is fit for this 6N, then he will still be in the mix. It is mainly injuries that are holding him back now, probably the inevitable consequence of the game he plays and of getting older.

I don't think he has done anything wrong, I think it is more to do with how you value him. Injuries have diminished him at times and his effectiveness at carrying seems to have declined. At the same time, Wilson appears to have matured and developed his game with youngsters coming through early.
Unfortunately for Strauss, Glasgow will not be able to match any big offer without losing another big name or a couple of younger guys. If they are close he might decide he wants the player welfare offered by the SRU. If they are not, there are teams who will pay him handsomely (LI, Newcastle, Quins, Leicester, Worcester in the Aviva all look like they could use Strauss as a starter).

We can use this thread for post-1872 gloating.
Also we can discuss Hardie's transfer to Glasgow with CDP. Something about playing in the top cup competition in Europe. In exchange, Edinburgh get Adam Ashe and Hugh Blake.
Hey, anyone can make the group stages. You aren't a proper European giant until you've played in a semi-final.
I actually rate Ashe and Blake. Had you said Wilson I'd have met you off the bus with duelling pistols.
Where are Edinburgh again?....
Also I figured that a duel is more your style FES. Shotgun LangiLangi as my second
I don't actually consider LangiLangi a rugby player. He's as useful at number 8 as Glasgow's very own Jeremy Bone.

CDP is 10 times the player that little Josh is! Every time CDP and Strauss meet on the field, CDP has Strauss in his back pocket.

This is true. Strauss just goes "missing" when he's on the same pitch as CDP.

He just pops to the shops for a mars bar and maybe a kit-kat, there isn't much to do when your side is dishing out a man shaming to the opposition.

And this is exactly what happened with Strauss, Du preez has been a good player for Edinburgh but is hampered with injuries this year but he wont be a automatic pick for Scotland and when he doesnt excel when he gets a game for Scotland he will come down in people estimations like strauss has. In Scotland when your teams losing the best player/ cure to all ills is the guy who isnt available. Then the savoiur is picked and becomes tainted by the latest failure.

Strauss and Du Preez have only played together in three 1872 Cup matches, with Glasgow winning two of the three. Of course, if facts, logic and reason appeared regularly in the thought processes of 606ers, you guys wouldn't support Edinburgh and would spend your money better on a year's supply of Haribo.tigertattie wrote:CDP is 10 times the player that little Josh is! I get enough of nonsense like that at home and at work. Here, thankfully you just 'feel' that something is something is a certain way and that' all that really matters. Watch Stephen Colbert's speech to George W Bush at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. That nails it precisely.
I hope that you and your mighty Stones have an excellent Christmas.

Is that the speech where, as Colbert finishes and walks past, Laura Bush is seen to smile at him and s say "Go f*** yourself."
I love that speech!

So you think that because Glasgow won two of the three contests, it naturally follows that Strauss wasn't outplayed by CDP on each occasion?
Non sequitur alert!
This is the logic that leads to Gatland assuming that the Welsh XV is to a man better than the Scotland XV. Wales always beat Scotland, therefore all Welsh players are better.
The fact is that Strauss has never shown much stomach against Edinburgh. It'll be the same this time. Someone almost as clever as me said that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results was a hallmark of insanity.

The title was changed to "Send" for about 15 minutes earlier this morning. Either the Mods are having their Christmas party at a very odd time of day, or Tattie is still drunk from last night.
