Re: Racing vs Glasgow & Stade vs Edinburgh
I finished night shifts this morning so just been chilling out watching some rugby from the weekend.
Munster certainly gave some hammering to Leicester, even more than we did to be honest. If they keep on playing like that then they will take some stopping this year.
Interestingly the pundits, Healey, Wallace and O'Callaghan all reckoned that Racing are already out having taken nothing from their first two games and that they won't fully commit from here on in, especially in away games. The maths is certainly against them and is hard to see how they can qualify from here, so it will be interesting to see what kind of team they do put out.
If they do lose again this weekend, then they almost certainly will give up and it is hard to see Munster not winning the group then. Our best hope of winning the group is from Leicester giving some sort of reaction this weekend. Some of the Leicester players and their coaching staff may be playing for their careers, so that might happen. It is hard to state just how poor they were in that match against Munster and that won't be tolerated in such a famous club for any length of time.

I'm streamlining. Mostly because I don't believe there are huge numbers of Racing or Stade Francais rugby fans on the forum (apologies if there are hoards of you just waiting for a decent match thread to comment on and feel let down... again), and figured chances are the folk commenting would be the same folk regardless of the game.
I suspect this trial will be a one off and I'll be pilloried for this monstrosity.

Although I can understand it.
It will be the only time the Edinburgh fans can be part of a discussion about good Scottish rugby

Will probably fall over and claim he was pushed.
In all seriousness Stade will probably win because Edinburgh can't put 2 games together and it is a home match.
Edinburgh should swap the props around and start Tovey ahead of Weir even if Hodge likes half-back pairings. Burleigh should start if available, if not Dean. Brown or Scholes should start ahead of Helu.
Racing should not think they are out. They lost at home and away. IF they beat Glasgow in Glasgow, they have got a home game vs Leicester, a home game vs Munster and potentially the decider away to Munster who could already be through. That is tough but doable. Should they lose then they are done. Leicester should preferably draw against Munster for a 2-2 split to eliminate Leicester before they come to Glasgow and weaken Munster at the home game.
I expect a similar line-up to last time for Glasgow. It worked well and no one is getting healthy who is automatic to start. Maybe Pyrgos ahead of Price?

Re: Racing vs Glasgow & Stade vs Edinburgh
It will be tough for Racing. It is not just that they have lost but that they have taken nothing from those games, currently on nil points. They are pretty much going to have to take 5 points from every game now and that won't be easy if even possible.
Once they are mathematically out, I am pretty sure that they won't turn up. They may not be quite out yet, but you can't see them winning the group and can they realistically score 4 tries at in Limerick and Glasgow. It seems unlikely.

Are you Schlong in disguise?
Also, is there any truth in the rumour that the Library echoed to the sounds of fans serenading Stade Francais with a chorus of "Are you Luvvies in disguise?"

Absolutely not - that would constitute a chant, which is strictly frowned upon at Edinburgh games

Gee, even if Racing get 4X5 pts they still only have 20pts. Munster can lose to twice to Racing but still pick up 14 points with LBP's so end up on 24pts. Racing would be lucky to go through as best runner up then. Realistically they are out. As a rule French teams don't travel well and even less so when they have nothing to play for. They are out. As out as Graham Norton in a dress at MFL AGM.
So, if the once and future champions win on Friday then do we prefer Munster to have beaten Tiggers? Probably as that means they are out and should have nothing to play for when we visit Welford Rd.
Munster's visit to Scotstoun would be one to be at then.

Re: Racing vs Glasgow & Stade vs Edinburgh
I agree Jim, I can't see Racing winning the group and they would need a real turn of results to qualify as runners up.
Unfortunately I can't see us winning the group either, unless Tiggers rediscover some form we have not seen this weekend and Munster come away with nothing. Even if we beat them on the return to Scotstoun, 4 tries seems in the realm of fantasy at the moment and our failure to take anything from that fateful day in Limerick is likely to cost us.
A best runners up spot though is still definitely in the ball park though. If we can just win the rest of our home games and maybe take anything from our trip to Leicester, which I am hoping to go to!

Graham,I have just finished talking with The Schizoid One. He and lady Schiz are coming down for Leicester. I'm deffo going up, most likely being driven by the Feckless Rogue. If you want a lift let me know. Also, Glasgow ticket office are working on the basis that the match is on the Saturday.

That's good to know. I have kept the whole weekend free so far and I don't imagine getting tickets will be a problem. Can't really see many scenarios where Leicester are still going to be live at this point. I dare say they will still have pride and contracts to play for though!

Hagia Sophia and I will be there, buddy. I made some friends among Leicester supporters in the 02 Tent at England v Fiji, so they've invited us. Who knew wearing a Scotland shirt and a Fiji flag as a cape would get you on stage with Ugo Monye? Of course, the people in the tent sounded like they were booing, but they were obviously shouting "Boo-urns". I'm assuming they wre Leicester fans - they love Freddie.jimbopip wrote:Graham,I have just finished talking with The Schizoid One. He and lady Schiz are coming down for Leicester. Re: Racing vs Glasgow & Stade vs Edinburgh
Edinburgh are really going for it with this team selection - that is one hell of a meaty pack! The backline already looks better with Tovey in there too
Edinburgh Rugby Acting Head Coach Duncan Hodge has made eight changes to his starting side to face Stade Francais in the second of back-to-back European Challenge cup fixture against the Parisian outfit tomorrow at Stade Jean Bouin (kick-off 8.45pm local).
Tom Brown returns to the starting side
The majority of changes come in the pack where five players come in to start following Saturday’s round four 28-23 defeat of the French side.
In the front-row Simon Berghan and Ross Ford – who will captain the side – are promoted from the bench to start, while Fraser McKenzie is named in the pack in place of Grant Gilchrist.
Nasi Manu is set to don the number eight shirt while Cornell Du Preez packs down on the blindside flank.
Tom Brown returns from a groin injury to start on the wing in the only change to the back-three, with Chris Dean coming in at inside centre and Jason Tovey given the nod at stand-off.
Acting Head Coach Duncan Hodge said: “ Following Saturday’s clash at BT Murrayfield, we are fully aware of the challenge we face as we head over to Paris to take on Stade [Francais] on their home patch.
“It’ll be tough and physical, but the fight we showed to come back from a 17-point deficit in last week’s affair shows the character this squad possess.
“We’ve made a couple of changes to the side with a number of players meriting selection after impressing off the bench on Saturday, and we’re looking forward to them backing this up again in tomorrow’s game.”
Blair Kinghorn and Damien Hoyland continue in the back-three alongside the incoming Brown, while Michael Allen retains his spot in the outside centre berth partnering Dean in midfield.
Man-of-the-match in Saturday’s victory over Stade Francais, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, joins Tovey to complete the half-back duo.
Alasdair Dickinson is named at loosehead prop with Ford and Berghan at hooker and tighthead prop respectively.
McKenzie is joined by Ben Toolis at lock, and Hamish Watson continues on the openside flank to complete the back-row alongside Du Preez and Manu.

Normally just Google it with the words 'live stream' after and see what comes up - be careful what you click! The usual websites will probably be showing it too.
I'll be looking for a link tonight, as will other people I'm sure, so we can help each other out.

Hell's bells, Glasgow unchanged except for Strauss replacing the injured Italian Exocet and Fusaro coming onto the bench - Wilson moves to openside.
100 caps for Strauss - how the hell has he been here five seasons? If I recall, it was back in when I first got my season-ticket. Feels like yesterday.

Depends what you class as 'here' - for the last season and a half he's been more of a passenger based on his performances on the pitch!

That's a bit strong, he may not have hit some of his early strides, nor the pro-12 final recently but he never really has a bad game. I think age and injuries are catching up with him a little bit now but he is still a very good player.

Favaro being injured is a big test. Favaro was excellent against Racing and balances the back row. Wilson seems to get himself in a lot more trouble at 7.

Re: Racing vs Glasgow & Stade vs Edinburgh
Racing have gone for as big a pack as they can manage. No real 7 so missing Favaro becomes even worse. The scrum is going to be huge test. Grobler coming on got the Racing scrum moving forward and is probably the reason Naka has been pushed back to 8. Will Harley and Gray manage 50 tackles between them? More practically Glasgow have to win the turnover battle and sadly, with Clancy, it is unlikely to happen.
One big thing in Glasgow's favour are the wings changing to Andreu and Thomas, who are good wings in their own right but are nowhere near Roko and Imhoff.

Apologies I was doing a Jimbo and doing a bit of fishing. Looks like I got a bite!

One time, at band camp, someone told me about an android apk app called Mobdro.
Apparently it gives you all sports channels from everywhere round the globe incl. the UK satellite ones.

Joking aside, that is a pretty beefy pack and you get the feeling that they might be looking to go route one this time.
Going to be a massive test for our front 5 but if we can get some sort of parity up front we may be able to run the big lads around on the plastic pitch and tire them out. I know that means that they are just going to bring some more big lads on but it may be our best chance.
I am not sure playing Leone at 8 works best, he is just a bit to loose and is always tempted to go for the off load instaed of just making hard yards. We tried it a few times and it never worked that well. I guess they may swap around at the defensive sets and move him to the flank. Masoe could easily interchange with him.
One thing is clear that they don't seem to be giving up on the match
