Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
After protracted discussions GGG will defend his titles against mandatory challenger Daniel Jacobs at Madinson Square Garden, New York on March 18. Fight is on HBO PPV. Jacobs can punch but has a weak chin. Easy nights work for GGG

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
Should be
But its a credible opponent, one of the best at 160
They can both bang, so who knows?
I think GGG is better in every department apart from hand speed though...

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
Fantastic fight. No one can downgrade Jacobs as an opponent.
Will be interesting to see how effective Jacobs' power is. He has legitimate power in both hands ad GGG not hard to hit.
Fancy GGG of course but think Jacobs will have his moments.

Pirog destroyed Jacobs and the Russian doesn't punch as hard as Golovkin. Jacobs got dropped by Mora who can't punch. 3 rounds max. Destruction job

If GGG wins early no doubt some will say Jacobs was an easy fighter to face for GGG, I think this is a very good fight

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
Jacobs can crack, but you feel that GGG will respect him more than he did Brook so think you'll see the Golovkin that turned up against Lemieux....the boxer with a great jab who systematically picks you apart rather than rush you
Jacobs is talented though and has hand speed advantages as well as his own power
Should be a good fight but you think GGG will catch him and will end up stopping him

Good fight.
GGG is a monster at 160, no matter what I say about his record, the boy can really fight. After he batters Jacobs, hopefully he gets the fight with Saul. That would be a cracking fight and I think it would be very competitive for 7 or 8 rounds.

That's how I see it. GGG can probably take Jacobs shots (but he'll likely choose to avoid doing so) but Jacobs won't be able to take GGG's. Jacobs is a live opponent though, so perfectly reasonable fight. Most likely a 'when' not an 'if' though for GGG to catch him.

I expect a fight similar to the Lemuix one, maybe a bit more competitive early.

Canelo got marked up by Lara who's got no power. GGG will rip his face to bitsAdamT wrote:Good fight.

Not a lot of options at 54 for Canelo which although not great for Canelo and his career, may just be good news for those wishing to see a Canelo Golovkin fight in the fall of 2017:

Isn't canelo fighting chavez Jr?
Guess they are trying to wait out ggg
Canelo doesn't have many options left though

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
If Golovkin beats Jacobs on March 18th at Madison Square Garden and Canelo beats Chavez in their catch-weight money fight still to be finalised for May 6th(the negotiations of which are said to be going well according to Chavez Sr,) ideally that should set up a Canelo Golovkin clash nicely
Believe it when I see it but starting to get a tiny bit more optimistic that it's going to happen

This fight better go ahead. Golovkin will take him out before the 10th.
For some reason Jacobs still hasn't checked into Vada testing??? WTF!!
Why is he stalling?

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
I think Jacobs will start very well but GGG should grind him down. Golovkin will need to be less gung ho than he has been of late, though.
This is the first opponent you could make a case for against Golovkin (though GGG starts a good sized favourite).
Mick Conlan has his debut the night before - mega jealous of those going over for both cards. Great weekend.

Golovkin will fight a much more cautious fight in this one en route to a stoppage I feel

Sorry, meant shift (not switch). It's in this vid:

Something of a lost art (Golovkin is brilliant at it). Hagler and Duran were superb at this.

Shifting is excellent
It means you are always in the strongest position to punch regardless of the hand

I think Golovkin is a reasonably small middlweight by todays standards. Even with same day weigh ins I think he could still operate as a middleweight.

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
He walks around at c168 but always keeps himself in shape, cuts a bit for weigh in, rehydrates back to that weightl or a little above on fight night. I'd say he's a perfect sized middle by today's weigh in criteria... not a boiled down super/mid who kills himself to make weight but hardly small at the weight either.
It's interesting how a few of the most successful fighters don't really boil down to make weight. Mayweather, pac, Froch was another. Obviously the first 2 are exceptional talents, but they give away pounds on fightnight in exchange for not killing their bodies to make weight. The super boilers like canelo have obviously been really successful with it... but it can come at a cost of stamina and sharpness. I'm not sure the extra pounds on fight night are always the big advantage they're cracked up to be. It's a trade-off. I Guess much depends on the individual's physiology and the skill set of their conditioners.

The weight classes are joke now. Probably my biggest gripe with modern boxing.

I was thinking the same
Guys who don't drain themselves tend to be much stronger

Re: Golovkin vs Jacobs CONFIRMED
Weight in boxing in general is an oddity; Chavez Jr, Alvarez and Froch would be an interesting case study.
Froch is clearly a bigger man than the other two but I'm fairly certain both have weighed more on fight night than he did.

Just saw a clip of Jacobs getting absolutely sparked by Dmitry Pirog - whatever happened to that guy?
What could've been of him?

Pirog ruptured a disc in his back just as a unification with GGG was confirmed, Pirog never able to fight again

“I see one of the biggest upsets ever coming,” said Hopkins to veteran scribe Bernard Fernandez. “I see Danny Jacobs winning a hard-fought decision, but it won’t be a fight so hard to score that the outcome will be debated, like we had with Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward. I just think Danny is prepared to do something great.”
Whatever 'Special' Hopkins has been smoking, PLEASE keep it away from me.

Precise did one - called Amerobum.
The Chemo will play a big part no doubt. Physically there's no way DJ can be feeling
the same.
