Berahino finally leaves West Brom for 12m.
I'm sure the good 8m and 2 years Peace lost by being stubborn was worth it

You know what, I bet he and West Brom fans probably do think it was worth it.
Jose Fonte signs for West Ham for £8m. Not sure we, in our position, could have signed a better defender.

We've taken Jem Karacan on trial because apparently having 6 CM's isn't enough

Don't think he will make a big difference.
Looked poor when he was with us and has spent one and a half seasons being thoroughly unimpressive on loan. Not sure being involved in a relegation scrap will bring the best out of a player who has always come across as slightly psychologically and physically weak.
He is fast though.

This must surely be so they can reinvest that money? If not that's a really stupid move, he's one of their better players.

Re: Ryan Babel in a chopper? It's the January Transfer Window thread
Crystal Palace have agreed a £9 deal for Robbie Brady.
If they also sign Van Aanholt, that will be three left backs they have signed this window. Obviously Schlupp and Brady can both play further forward as well, but considered Souare is only injured not left, that's a bit strange. Think they'd spend the money elsewhere on the pitch.

Re: Ryan Babel in a chopper? It's the January Transfer Window thread
Brady isn't really a left back. Schlupp arguably not a left back either. I'd guess Sam is planning Schlupp one side and Brady playing off the right.
Noise about suggests Snodgrass would prefer West Ham to Burnley, and Boro are a new party to the table. West Ham have got decent bids in for him and Hogan, but dont want to go through until Payet is sold.
Defoe - aint happening unless he hands in a transfer request; club still holding out hope he does.

Don't think Snodgrass is a bad signing for West Ham at all, probably the best they could get in January to replace what Payet brings.

Don't really think he's more than a standout by comparison to an awful side.
Decent signing for a lower half side, not good enough for anyone with higher aspirations imo.

I'm happy with him as a winter signing. Immediate impact and suits the side, especially as I think we need some grit.

at the start of the season if you told west ham fans that payet would be being sold and snodgrass would be his replacement the fans would be pulling their hair out
half a good season standing out in a awful side doesnt mean hes the answer.

Re: Ryan Babel in a chopper? It's the January Transfer Window thread
The first bit is somewhat trite as we'd have all been gutted to lose Payet in winter regardless.
The second part is a bit unfair on the player. He's always been someone who is gonna be arounthe best player for a midtable Premier League side.
I'm reasonably happy; good January business and we need players with domestic experience as our foreign gambles haven't paid off recently. If we go and get Hogan as well then I'll be chuffed with Fonte, Snodgrass and him as January business.
It will leave the real business for summer, and I would guess that for a 3rd year running our priorities will be right back and a striker, regardless of how Hogan adapts.

hes only ever played for relegation fodder (sorry olly) and stood out in poor teams. he's only had three years in the prem so not sure how you can say hes best player for a midtable club as its never happened. willing to put my neck out and say itll be a average signing at best

Re: Ryan Babel in a chopper? It's the January Transfer Window thread
Standing out in poor teams is my least favourite stick to beat a player with. If you perform well in the championship and the premiership then you're a good player, and he's arguably strengthening any team outside the top lot (bar maybe Southampton who I think are really the 7th best side but underachieving in the league).
He's not gonna be and isn't really meant to be the new Payet. He'll be reasonable without being amazing and that's acceptable. With the players we've lost or it hasn't worked since summer we have been left short there and his style of play is rather perfect to provide for Carroll and Antonio. Seems a signing to me that is much more about suitability for the side than exciting name or reputation.

dont mind your change transfer policy least your getting players in now, would annoy me less if your cretins for owners wouldnt harp on about signing all the superstars at the start of the season then really sign the hogans and snodgrasses
didnt realise fonte was as old as he is, originally thought great signing. but at 33 he's only going to give 2 seasons at a push

There are loads of players who stand out in the Championship and fail to make the grade in the PL. Cameron Jerome, Rob Earnshaw and Anthony Knockaert come to mind

Snodgrass is a good solid player. Great set pieces, clever, will do a decent job for west ham. Don't think anybody is saying he's the next payet, but he should do fine

Wolves and Aston Villa rejects arriving on loan, captain sold.
But yeah, turning down an offer which had a structure completely ready to go was in the best interests of the club

Re: Ryan Babel in a chopper? It's the January Transfer Window thread
The love affair is over. £25m before clauses etc is decent enough considering, and once it blows over it'll always be nice to remember having someone that good grace Upton Park in the last season. To look at it kindly, we loaned him off Marseille for the best year of his career and got paid £15m to do it.
If he'd shown some class we may have been in a position to buy younger, more exciting players from the fallout, but we are what we are and have to put some immediate strength in to ensure a top half finish.
Certainly doesn't have the same blow as relegation and the inevitability of losing Parker, or Cole, Carrick, Defoe and Johnson before.

Just seen it's Tshibola going to Forest, thought it might have been Gardner again.
I actually like Tshibola, did ok when he was given a chance.
Good luck to him.
Obviously won't be able to play Saturday.

6 ex-Everton overall. Oviedo, Pienaar, Anichebe, Lescott, Gibson and Rodwell. Gonna have the ultimate bunch of misfit cheap signings squad in the Champ next year.
Ulloa is the only play them seem to be bidding on who could have an impact, Leicester have rejected bids and Ulloa seemingly said he won't play for the club again.
Ighalo to China
Adlene Guedioura to Hull
Robertson to Burnley
Van Aanholt to Palace done
Gabbiadini looks set to finally move to England by joining Southampton

We're in for Wildschut from Wigan. We already have two Murphy's, Pritchard, Canos, Jarvis, Naismith who can play wide - why not just add another one for the sake of it. Not like we've needed a CB for two years now....

Neil Taylor apparently had a medical this evening.
Read that we have matched Brentford's asking price for Hogan.
He can just hop on the villa coach after the game tomorrow

Canos leaving for Brentford, Olly. £2.5m. Hence the Wildschut move.

Few overseas transfers to note.
Leon Bailey, a highly rated winger from Genk has joined Leverkusen for 15m, was thought to have been monitored by a few clubs.
Anwar El Ghazi has moved from Ajax to Lille, was on fire last season but fell out with the manager and got demoted to the B side. Certainly a talented player despite the attitude.
Oh and Pato has gone to China.
