Cheers RDW.
Was just reading about the Glasgow Leicester game and that only Ulster has won a European tie at Welford Road in the last 10 seasons. It was a close game and finished 19-22. As well as progressing from the group stages, this made the desctruction of the Tigers oh so sweet.

Ha ha! Dang nab it! That'll teach me to start writing a Thread XV while distracting myself with 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' (the original film, not the Keanu Reeves abomination).
Well done Mesmeric! Looks fantastic!

Great work Mesmeric.
Like the dead man's chest title.
Maybe something related to Donald Trump would be appropriate.

Given that we regular talk about First XVs surely we could get something rugby related in the title??

With Sexton out injured for Ireland, hopefully Keatley will be called up as cover. Edinburgh need Munster to lose as many players as possible.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
Edinburgh Rugby tighthead prop Willem Nel has undergone surgery on a neck injury sustained in his side’s win over Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop on Saturday 14 January.
A MRI scan on Wednesday 18 January at Spire Murrayfield Hospital revealed that Nel damaged an intervertebral disc in his neck during a significant collision during the game. Following further assessment, surgery was deemed as an appropriate course of action.
Nel will now commence a rehabilitation programme, with a return-to-play date to be determined in due course.
I suspect his season is over.

Nice one, I forgot to check there. In other news, Nelly's had surgery. http://www.edinburghrugby.org/news/17/01/31/nel-injury-update. I wonder if this scuppers his Lions chances and any mooted move this summer?

looks like the munster game is going to be near enough a sell out as well with only 200 tickets left.
Shame about Nel, but I guess we all thought he was likely to be out for the rest of the season.

Great news. They were hoping for this, and the Friday night game before Wales, to be popular, so its great to see only 200 seats left.
Likely line-up? I suppose we're at Vern's behest with Hardie, Weir and McInally (even Toolis), but perhaps:
1. Cosgrove 2. Cochrane/McInally 3. McCallum 4. McKenzie 5. Toolis 6. Ritchie/Mata 7. Hardie/Ritchie 8. Bradbury 9. Kennedy 10. Tovey/Weir 11. Brown 12. Dean 13. Allen 14. Hoyland, 15. Kinghorn
16. Cochrane 17. Elkington? 18. Whyte/Beavon? 19. Carmichael 20. Mata 21. SHC 22. Rasolea 23. Scholes
Are Burleigh and Manu fit yet?

I bet the guy was absolutely bricking it. On a slightly different note, while I like Watson and Barcs and I can't argue with their form, I think many of our opponents will be chuffed to see Hardie's name missed off a team sheet

I'm worried about the lack of truly world-class talent in that squad. I can only see two of them on the bench, and that's it.
Fergus Bradbury is the younger brother of Magnus, also of Oban Lorne RFC - from my neck of the woods!

Not wanting to boast.....but the mighty north berwick high school/rugby club has now produced at least 2 players in each of the under 20 squads for the last 4 years, not bad for a small seaside town
I hope Robbie Nairn has a good tournament, wouldn't be surprised if he is the next big thing in Scottish rugby but apart from that there arent many star players

It's going to be difficult for such an inexperienced team, but we saw with the last 'incarnation' of the U20s that we could get surprisingly good results over a 2-3 year period by packing in 18 year olds and giving them at least two seasons at that level. THat approach played a role in producing Jonny and Zander, and laterly Scott Cummings, Murray McCallum and Matt Smith too.

Interesting to see Mitch Eadie move from Bristol to Saints, obviously wanting to secure top flight rugby for next season. He'll learn a lot from Picamoles, although my concern with the move is that he may get less rugby. Still, it's a step up.

Prop Derrick Appiah has joined Edinburgh Rugby on a short-term loan from Worcester Warriors.
The Italian age-grade internationalist, 22, joined the Aviva Premiership side in the summer of 2015 after spells with Mogliano, Rugby Parma and Modena Rugby.
He was a regular for Italy U20 during their 2014 RBS Six Nations campaign and later that year featured in the World Rugby U20 Championships.
Appiah is available to play for Edinburgh Rugby with immediate effect.
We must be desperate - hardly a great pedigree!

No....no....I'm pretty sure it's eyes.
Given the number of one star or no stars in there the must be a lot of players from Fife then!
no no no you're getting it all wrong!
if you have one eye you're either Welsh or any Irishman discussing Conor Murray!
Fifers have three or more eyes, often have webbed feet and are likely to be cousins of their own sisters!

It will be interesting to see how he does there, I think he's certainly got the potential to do well, he's a very mobile player. Regular game time at Saints next season would certainly attract Townsend's interest being his old club.
Speaking of Saints, I wonder with Glasgow looking like they'll sign Hastings from Bath whether Rory Hutchinson might be a good 10 option for Edinburgh. He's playing regularly for Saints now at centre (either starting or form the bench) and scores a few tries. He played at 10 for Scotland U20s regularly so I wonder if he might be the guy to develop in place of Weir.

Great to see Dave Denton return for Bath this weekend.
He's got a fight on his hands to get back in the Scotland squad but it is good to have lots of options.
