Why was he still on the pitch then? If he had vision (or handling) problems, he should have made the medics aware. I hate to say it but we are just too tolerant of mediocrity

Well there go. Played well for 30 mins but failed to rack up points then total meltdown in the second half.
Time there was a proper clear out at Edinburgh

Sadly, a lot of effort but precious little ability. This is why we can't have a 3rd team in Scotland - we don't even have enough decent players for 2RDW_Scotland wrote:We've put a lot into this for little return - they've got points very easily

All falling apart. Pity, as the team is not lacking in effort. MacKenzie and Ritchie in particular.
It isn't fair to blame all this on Hodge, but he isn't the solution either.

I thought the front row had been a rare source of competence. That guy Appiah looks like a decent ball carrier. The backs are honking to a man.funnyExiledScot wrote:What is the point of our front row??
I get annoyed when you see that interview from Tom Brown - we are a close knit bunch of guys etc. Yes, because you should all be ashamed for playing as badly as this.
I can't help but think that something is amiss behind the scenes. CDP goes AWOL, the SA lock whose name I can't remember goes AWOL Manu is permanently "injured"

We have been penalised at each and every scrum in the second half, apart from the one where CDP got caught trying to pick up the ball.
You are right though, in that the backs have been awful.

That really was a classic Scottish rugby restart. Zero intensity from the Edinburgh players. They should all be fined a weeks wages for that try alone.

True, but all these teams are missing players. I'm also not convinced that Berghan would have sorted this out!

Furlong, Cronin, Healy, McGrath....
Let's not kids ourselves. We have nothing like the depth that Leinster has. This game is ample evidence.

McInally too. Also Kevin Bryce is out too if that says anything.InjuredYetAgain wrote:Oops, Berghan makes it 5 internationalists - Nel, Ford, Dickinson, Sutherland and Berghan
Edinburgh have depth but it's stretched to its limit at the moment and was thoroughly exposed in Dublin. Badly.
That's 5 props and 2 hookers unavailable. This was Edinburgh's bottom-of-the-barrel front row selection. The starters were 3rd choice at best with some Marshmallow Fluff on the bench.
McCallum has a big future but is still very green. Cosgrove was okay in the loose but again, too green. Cochrane, however, played well and Edinburgh missed him when he went off.
As for the reserve front row. They added nothing and got utterly squished. Derrick Appiah - Italian qualified 22yr old, on 3 month loan from Worcester and looks gash. Nick Beavon and George Turner - might be good in the Premiership but the step up to Pro12 seems too much.
When Edinburgh emptied their bench, it was like a horror movie, Leinster dined on a buffet of meat pies (to quote the Honey Badger).
And anyway, the backs were poo, which undermined any good work done by the forwards.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
I watched that game when I got home from work last night. How bizarre, you would never have guessed that at half time Edinburgh were in the game and should have been in the lead. Yet you also always got the feeling that they were going to capitulate in the second half.
I have to say I did not see anything from CDP or Bradbury to suggest that they should be playing for Scotland next weekend, even accepting that it is hard to look good in a team that is being beaten badly. Both are good players but playing in a sloppy is not giving them the skills they need to play internationally. Both gave away stupid penalties and it looked at the end that the heads had dropped.
I hope Denton or Ashe play well!

I am just watching that game on record right now.
It is down to Sarries whether he plays or not on these weekends. He got called in late to cover Duncan Taylor who apparently is still not fit. So clearly he won't be playing next week if Dunbar not fit.
Hope it is nothing serious for Maitland, he was playing well at FB from what I have seen so far.

I think that I need to clarify that I know clubs can choose their players outside international windows.
It was a question more along the lines of "Why God, whyyyy?"

Just seen the Maitland injury. It was very innocuous. He was running with the ball and twisted and seemed to pop a rib cartlidge, it was not even in any contact.
It did not look that serious, but whether it will be right for next week is anyone's guess.

Edinburgh were an absolute shambles last night. Hodge as head coach isn't working, and I would be surprised if he is in that role next season. Listening to English commentary last night one of them said (in a non sarcastic way) that there was a lot Edinburgh could take from this game. I only hope the SRU aren't as delusional.
They need to find some focus, every player from 1-15 is playing below their potential. I really hope Cockerill get's appointed, I think he would bring a better ethos to the club.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
I watched the first half last night and then the voices in my head stopped telling me to, "Go to Orleans and drive the Anglais out of la belle France" and were replaced by two new voices.
The first, in a quivering, unconvincing east coast accent said, "Well done lads, we're creating space on the wings and once we actually start catching the ball I'm sure we'll run in a hatful of those five point thingies. So same again."
This was followed by an agricultural Irish brogue, " A very feccin funny lads... For about ten minutes you had me believin' you were actually tryin' there. Now you've had your fun now get out there and start playing rugby, or you'll all be watching the first 40 all day in the video suite on Monday."
At which point I couldn't really see any point in watching the inevitable Luvvie collapse.

Glasgow strength in depth is just a bit too sporadic this season. By which I mean the mixture of players during internationals hasn't worked as well as it has in the past.
Horne was pretty awful in the 2nd half, leaked ball and passed forwards too much. If the pass isn't on don't throw it!! But he was good running in attack. Clearly rusty.
Think any pro12 ambitions are slipping away but you never know, Europe is townsends big focus I suppose. Looking forward to the impact Rennie has next season.
Ulster looked great in attack, very well deserved victory by them.

The thing is, it was not all bad. There were some very good individual performances, Cummings in particular of the starters and I thought Bhatti and Vernon did really well when they came on. Brandon Thompson, looked pretty handy for a first run out as well.
It was just all way to loose. Horne had a curates egg of a game but I suppose you can forgive him for being rusty. Henry P still looks way short of confidence.
I don't see us making the playoffs now and that may not be a bad thing. It seems that it is going to be Europe or nothing for us. I saw nothing in the Saracens game yesterday to suggest that if we play well, we could not beat them.

Excellent signing for Edinburgh you need someone who doesn't take Poopie and builds aggression.
