You're welcome
Listening to the Newcastle v Saracens game. Duncan Taylor started at fullback for Saracens today but limped off after 30mins. Maitland on the left wing. Big Jim Hamilton also started with Kelly Brown poised to make his 150th Sarries appearance from the bench. Jon Welsh at tighthead for Newcastle.

Maitland came through uninjured which is good and that gives Vern a selection headache.
Maitland starts for me with Visser or Bennett benching.

Agreed. Visser was excellent against Wales but Maitland still has the better allround game, and there will be some defending to do against England at Twickers. I'd pick Visser against Italy though.
I'd have Bennett benching - he's more versatile.

I disagree.
I don't think you can bin Visser after his best performance for Scotland. He also grabbed a try for quinns this week.
Maitland does do more in defence and will know a lot of the sarries players that compose the England team, but I couldn't bring myself to drop one of our most potent attacking threats for one of our most impotent attacking threats.
Visser has clearly worked on his weaknesses. Defending, he bundled North out, and stopped Webb's try and finally he's putting that 6ft 5 frame into the air and winning some good arial battles. His height advantage over Nowell, Daly and his clubmate Brown would make me pick him over Maitland.

All very sound reasoning and I'm not going to dispute the merits of selecting Visser - he would be the form pick. But whilst Visser competing for the ball in the air was a refreshing novelty against Wales, as was his lovely supporting run and pass to put Seymour over the line, those skills are bread and butter for our Kiwi friend. England will be more clever in attack the Wales (if such a thing is possible....), and I would rather have some brains in defence. That all said, I will not be spitting out the dummy should Big Vern opt for Visser.

I've just noticed that if Edinburgh lose the European QF (which is a near certainty given La Rochelle have just rolled over Toulouse away from home) then we only have 6 games left this season. That is probably a good thing!
I've also noticed that the Edinburgh website doesn't even have the La Rochelle game in the fixture list. Great way of building the crowd if they have to go searching for when the game is...

So, serious question
How many Edinburgh fans wish they actually supported Glasgow and are secretly looking into how the change their season tickets to the blue of the great unwashed

Cockers will make a difference of that I have no doubt. Edinburgh outside of the international window are not a bad team. Especially upfront. Mark Bennett will help matters from the centres but we do definitly lack some va va voom at flyhalf.
I should caveat that with not bad on paper.

Mr Mesmeric Try, thank you very much for that.
Murchie still seems unable to beat a man.
Furra Linee and Grigg looked good.
looked very sharp.
Pack all looked hungry, except Simone who seemd slightly subdued.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
Maybe a little, and rightly so. We have played better than them so far in the tournament.
However they have an extra couple of gears to go through and the worry is that England side in 4th gear could be enough to turn us over.
They haven't managed to get out of third yet IMO.
We will certainly test them out wide far better than France, Wales and Italy. However they will test us out wide far better than Ireland, France and Wales. For both teams this will be the biggest test of the tournament thusfar.

I think possibly, but I don't think that is due to us. They're on course for the grand slam and their world record winning run. I guess if you have that much on the line, you're going to be a bit nervous. If they had lost a game this tournament then I doubt they'd be as nervous/on-edge.
I know if Scotland were on a massive winning run and only 2 games from beating the record I would be bricking it.

I sincerely hope that Jones' mind games aside (as he desperatly tries to dump the favourites and expectation on us) that his players are feeling it too.
Our boys will be desperate to get the win at twickers but in the back of their minds they'll probably know that this 6N is already a resounding success and it'll be our best tournament to date if we rick roll Italy on the final weekend.
To an extent this match is far more important to England than us.

That is true, but with the caveat of DEFINITELY NOT GETTING CARRIED AWAY it is worth saying that if (and it is a huge if) we beat England we go into the final weekend with a genuine chance of winning the 6N. This is a huge game for us!

DAMN IT! I came on this thread to help me stay calm, and now I'm bricking it!
I'm usually a fairly normal, reliable, socially-acceptable kind of guy, but I think I'll be relying on Jimbo to keep me from doing something stupid on Saturday like spilling a pint on myself.
Calm Ian. Calm.

To be fair, outside of the 1872 Cup, pretty much all Edinburgh fans do support Glasgow; we don't tend to sport the same tribal "us and them" chip on the shoulder as most Weegies

You will. It's all they sing there, assuming England are winning. If England are losing, all you will hear is the quiet jangling of Ranger Rover keys in Barbour jacket pockets.
Twickenham is my least favourite 6 Nations stadium. The location is terrible and it just feels a bit soulless. I've never seen a Calcutta Cup game there however, or indeed a 6 Nations game, so hopefully there'll be a bit more spice to the occasion.

FES, there I was about to compliment for having exactly the same low opinion of Twickers as I have... but you had to spoil it.
The Bruster knows that there is a small window in my busy day when I am the font of all earthly wisdom. This is usually between two and three a.m. Most days Mrs Pip tells me to shut up and go back to sleep, but on the occasion of me being "out, out" several passers by have had cause to thank me. Especially when I point out their sartorial errors.
Mod Boy, if you are at Twickers why not PM Bru and see if a rendezvous is possible? I'm meeting him pre-match and Barry the ex- Nippynumber9 and I are "out out" for the evening so are open to suggestions.

"Mike Tyson defeated every opponent in life. Except for the letter 's' ".
When they write Jim's epitaph they will say that he defeated every enemy life threw at him.
Except for the quote function on the 606v2 boards.

George, I am reminded of the boxing writer who commented on Joe Frazier's left hook,
"Of all the weapons in a boxer's armoury a good left hook is the most damaging: it lies out there all day doing nothing and just when you think you're winning it comes booming in low and lethal and then it's lights out time.
Some people say Joe Frazier's left hook was the hardest hitting thing you'll ever come up against: me I think it's life actually."
I paraphrase wildly, but that is pretty much how I see life. Hopefully, Saturday will prove me, temporarily, wrong.

GC, thank you.
However, this clip raises one or two awkward questions....
Has anyone ever seen Bru and Woodie Allen in the same room. The physical resemblance is frightening, as is the voice.
Secondly, his description of Schiz, "one of those guys with saliva dribbling out of his mouth who wanders into a cafeteria with his shopping bag screaming about socialism"...he must have been at Welford Road with us.

I'm usually a fairly normal, reliable, socially-acceptable kind of guy, but I think I'll be relying on Jimbo to keep me from doing something stupid on Saturday.
Your lack of inner sociopath is troubling given your chosen career!
I find it deeply troubling that you rely on Jimbo for sensible advice. Why not rope in Schizoid as well?
I think you'll find I'm a site Administratr, not a lowly Moderator!

I see they've done away with the spelling test then.

Spelling?? You're a teacher. I thought spelling was long removed from the national curriculum in favour of Facebook studies, beard maintenance and geography.

Guys guys guys! I fell the need to step in and sort this mess out!
RDW is Admin Boy
I now see though that this could make GC feel left out as he doesn't get an official title so I think it only fair we name him Mod Man
Open to other suggestions though! Mini Mod perhaps?

Also, I'd like to add that I don't care much for this odd feeling in the pit of my stomach. Normally I look at a visit to Twickers as a case of "lets see how much we get beaten by this time"
John Jeffery
Findlay Calder
The Hastings Bros
David Sole
Just a small sample of many Scottish greats who have never won at Twickenham!
The last time we beat them there? Back when they picked up the wooden spoon in 1983!
So yeah, normally it's a case of, oh well, lets see if we can at least be in touching distance come the final whistle.
This year though! I'm no liking it! There's a feeling of expectation/hope/worry whatever you want to call it, that we could actually do it this year!

It's obvious that we will need to replace your profile picture with this one:tigert!ttie wrote:Mini Mod - ever since I were a lad

Although I think that probably only Jim and I are old enough to understand the joke.

Titter ye not, GC, titter ye not.
Personally, I feel that if you must have a sobriquet then in deference to your advanced years and the gravitas you bring to the proceedings....

Ooooooooooooo Matron!
In other news, I see some folk have been on the goo goo juice for the week four predictions!
One boy has Scotland winning 50 to nil.
Another has Ireland beating the sheep worriers by 101 to 3
Someone even has Italy beating France 24 to 12
I'm struggling. Really am! We have a chance sure, but are this bunch of Scotland players really better than Calder, Jeffery, Hastings et al???

Things really haven't gone very well for Niko since leaving Glasgow have they; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-39197905
He's pleaded not guilty, hopefully nothing in it but a grim situation to be in.
