Hopefully some cracking news after such a horrendous weekend - Mark Palmer at the Times is claiming Nel has re-signed. Rumours are its a 4 year deal. Great news if the medics are happy.

I wonder if we'll have any Scottish posters left after this one!!
I work next to Bute House and was looking out the window this morning. To say that the press pack looked weary about the whole thing was an understatement. I'm sure the nat machine will kick into action and the flag waving enthusiasm will return with gusto, but the general sense I'm getting at the moment is "please Lord, not again". One staunch Unionist said to me at lunch "If we just agree to become independent now, can we avoid having another referendum process....?".

Everyone is hurting after Saturday, but I think wee Nikki is taking it worse than others.

I've said they've purposely made the announcement today to try and ride a little wave of dislike towards England!
Still, all these public servants need to do something to justify their Salaries! Is just like the time tax payers money was spent hiring researchers to find out if chocolate made you fat!

To be honest I don't think the rugby crowd in Scotland is going to be very helpful for the Sturge! Educated middle class voters only went in one direction last time around.
More likely she did it to cheer up the Celtic faithful after their "moral defeat" yesterday.

I am worried that Brown could miss the sarries game. We don't have a lot of "luck" with citing panels. So I expect 3 weeks min.

Although maybe if he has a couple of kit-kats before he goes in, (to stave off any hunger pangs) he might get less

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
In the talk about which players might be released through the Racing/Stade merger announced yesterday, Nakarawa's name came up as he does not seem to have settled well in Paris. That certainly seems to be the case from his performances this year.
Would he come back to Glasgow? It does seem to be where his heart is as he seems to make regular visits back. A good payoff from the French outfit might sweeten the pill of a lower pay check.
Highly unlikely I would imagine and Glasgow may well have already made their plans for next years players. Apparently the players themselves only heard about all of this yesterday as well.
Still a bit of idle speculation never does any harm. I am sure most Glasgow fans would have him back in a heartbeat.

I'm sure rugby clubs will be circling round the Racing/Stade players like vultures - I hope Edinburgh and Glasgow are doing the same!
Both teams could certainly do with a massive French/Georgian prop or two.
Edinburgh an entire new backline...

I think we could afford Dan Carter provided we sold off the remainder of our backs and just played with 10 men. We'd still be better.

In all seriousness are any of the various South African/Aussies/Kiwis in the two squads SQ and not already tied to another country? Hugh Pyle and Jono Ross?

I enjoyed the joke told by one of the 'Rugby United' twitter accounts - that he and his Gloucester-supporting mate had been discussing merging Gloucester and Bath into a super club.
They'd play in the red stripes of Gloucester and the white stripes of Bath, take the 'Gloucester' part of Gloucester Rugby and the 'Rugby' part of Bath Rugby, and play their games at the bigger of the two stadiums...

Fair point! We'd need some aggressive marketing and possibly a few "two for one" offers....

Edinburgh Warriors?
Playing in Myreside (with Murrayfield on standby for big game)
Playing in Black and Blue.
Possible starting team of
Dickinson
Brown
Nel
Gray
Toolis
Bradbury
Watson
CDP
Price
Russell
Hoyland
Dunbar
Jones (after the super rugby season finished)
Seymour
Hogg
Sutherland
Ford
Fagarson
Swinson
Wilson
Sam HC
Horne
Bennett
Thats some team to be fair! Maybe we'd want a token Fijian or Kiwi in at 11?
All headed up by Rennie with Cockerill as forward coach?

Damn it, you've read the play.
Actually, I was hoping we'd get Lee Jones back.
On the basis that a squad needs two teams and a bench (38 players), here's my Glasbourgh squad, based in Livingston....
Tightheads: Nel, Fagerson and Berghan
Looseheads: Dickinson, Reid and Dell
Hookers: Brown, Ford and Cochrane
Locks: J Gray, Swinson, Gilchrist, Bresler and Toolis
Blindside: Wilson and Harley
Openside: Hardie and Watson
Number 8: Strauss, CDP and Manu
Scrum half: Price, Pyrgos and SH-C
Fly half: Russell, Tovey and Horne
Inside centre: Dunbar and Burleigh
Outside centre: Jones, Bennett and Grigg
Wings: Seymour, Hoyland, Sarto, Hughes and Jones
Fullbacks: Hogg and Kinghorn
Good squad.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
Some issues with your selections FES
1. Whats Sutherland done to be dropped entirely?
2. Strauss is away next season
3. The wage bill for that team is going to be mahoosive! Bresler, Swinson, Sam HC, Bennett - These will all be players getting paid a lot of money and won't be seeing much game time!
4. If that is your full squad, come international periods, we won't be able to put out a team!
Also, we both need to have Sean Lamont as "effort coach"

See above. I think you'll find that I've thought of everything.

Pop up advert from Edinburgh Rugby on a website I've just been on, advertising the Murrayfield game against La Rochelle on the 3rd March! What sort of people are they employing who can't get simple dates correct? Presumably this advert is all over the net so many people will see it and assume the game is past; end result, poor attendance. So so careless.

No excuse for it really. Read a quote on the BBC website from today's Herald about Scottish 'centre' Zander 'Ferguson' saying how the team were going to bounce back against Italy. I know journalism is in the doldrums but really...

For years the Scotsman picture editor has made some real clangers - regularly showing a picture of a completely different player.
They also give us Ian Morrison...

As it looks like we're about to endure another two years or so of both I could really do with the rugby reporting being accurate at least, an escape from the nonsense.

No excuse for it really. Read a quote on the BBC website from today's Herald about Scottish 'centre' Zander 'Ferguson' saying how the team were going to bounce back against Italy. I know journalism is in the doldrums but really...
fake news or alternative facts?
As it looks like we're about to endure another two years or so of both I could really do with the rugby reporting being accurate at least, an escape from the nonsense.
Good luck with that!
Eddie Butler will continue to call Tommy Seymour Tommy Boyd - no idea where he got that from
Jiffy will always shout "its on" when it isn't
Someone will post a picture of Rory Lamont and claim that it's Jonny Gray
Someone will always think ZooZander is a centre

Here's my alternative facts headline for the Calcutta Cup; 'Scotland continue their try scoring prowess with three against the Auld Enemy!'. Does that make for better reading?

Scotland tops try scoring against England with 2017 record haul of tries - easily beating the try scoring exploits of Italy (2), France (1), Wales (1).

I noticed on Saturday that every time the Hagia Sophia jumped up to cheer an England try, which was far too regular an occurrence, her handbag made a strange rattling sound.
A kind of dry, dusty, calcified yet hollow rattling sound.
"What's that sound like?"I asked.
"The Rolling Stones" she replied with a smile.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
I was at a bit of a loose end this afternoon and so I sat down and watched the U20s game from last weekend against England. I had recorded it at the time but the score put me off watching it somewhat.
Actually I am glad I did as the score really was not a reflection of the game. The Scottish kids, who were massively overpowered, actually played really well and with a little bit more accuracy and a touch of luck, would have been in the game.
There were two outstanding players for Scotland, Matt Fargerson and Darcy Graham.
Graham looks absolutely electric and seemed to be everywhere, he made and scored his own try. He does look tiny, probably because compared to the English giants he is. Is he to small for professional rugby, time will tell I guess but he certainly does not lack for effort and skill defensively. He was marking a big lad from London Irish, who ran amock against London Scottish earlier in the season, he came in at 17 stone and Graham marshalled him very well and certainly did not seem out of place defensively.
If he can be managed carefully and gently built up physically over the next couple of years, without stifling his pace and balance, then he may be some prospect indeed.
Matt Fargerson carried on from what we have seen from his Glasgow appearances. He looks much more the finished article physically than Graham does and also looks like he will have a very successful professional career ahead of him.
The results have not gone there way this year but there is some talent in amongst this years kids.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XV Men Chasing An Egg?!
Am I right in thinking that the bulk of our under 20s team will still be in the team next year?
There's still a massive difference between 18 and 19 year old lads - Like requiring to shave! If we had a team of mostly 18 year olds then the results aren't really a fair reflection!

I think it is a mixture as usual, some will be back, some won't. The English side had plenty of 18 year olds in it as well, some of whom are already getting AP experience. One of the Curry twins was playing and was MoM, for the second week running. 18 years old and more than physically mature enough. Sale have just given him and his brother a 5 year contract! That is how highly they are rated, he did look like a very good player.

As always England certainly looked much bigger. If anyone saw the highlights of the under 18s match the difference was even more stark - it looked like men against boys (it probably was!). Our team stuck in manfully though and put in a respectable performance but there was a real physical mis-match.

Jack Cosgrove leaving Edinburgh at the end of the season, joining Bristol.
Probably had more game time than expected and has played well. When Dickinson, Sutherland and Dell are all available he probably wouldn't get on the pitch too much so makes sense as he sounds pretty ambitious.
Kyle Walker still at Edinburgh as well so fairly well covered for loose head.
