Re: OUCH!
High drama indeed.
Not even bad boys of old, the likes of Mac, Connors or Nastase, could ever manage a direct hit like that.
Although ..... in fairness to the young lad it was all about frustration rather than malice. And right now, I reckon he'll be feeling far worse than the Umpire.
Think GB would have gone through to QF's anyway the way Edmund was playing.

Re: OUCH!
Well, as the young lad said, he won't be trying anything like that again. I play cricket and whenever I get hit on the court I always think: "It's only a soft ball."
But it was a pretty hard whack and no fun getting it in the eye.

Re: OUCH!
As lags said it was clearly a frustrated whack at getting broken, but it was also quite dangerous. With modern racquets and players strength increasing all the time, even a "soft" tennis ball can cause quite a bit of damage*. Glad the umpire is apparently OK, and I'm sure the player feels awful about it.
Fine performance from Edmund though, there was a real maturity about it, and the way he bounced back from the shocker he had on Friday was most impressive. GB will be pleased to come through that one, France away is up next. If Murray plays they have a chance, otherwise France's depth will probably be too much.
*used to play cricket with tennis balls and some tennis in the back garden with my brother(s) growing up. Smashed a few windows and the plants didn't always do particularly well out of it either ("we were here first" was our excuse in the latter case).

Re: OUCH!
Can't believe that Shapalapalapalov! That could have blinded the umpire being hit at such force. The ball really travelled. He deserves an enforced lay off of a long while depending on the severity of the injury.

Re: OUCH!
He's got a 7,000 dollar fine for starters and the ITF could take further action. Reckon Murray could well play in France. They'll no doubt stage it on clay and it would be a good introduction to the European CC season.
