First Memory
There are a wide range of age groups on here with some that started to watch in 80's, some during the attitude era and some not having watch for long.
I know this will have been done before so I apologize in advance.
What is your first memory of wrestling?
Mine is Royal Rumble 2000. I went to a friends house to watch it after school and I remember having to walk out the room because the HHH/Cactus Jack match was a bit gruesome for my 10 year old eyes! I loved it though and the Royal Rumble itself was brilliant, along with the tables match between The Hardy's and Dudley's and also the Tazz/Angle match when I genuinely thought Angle was really hurt LOL!
I have it on DVD now and it is just as I remember it. Plus one of the extras on it is a build up to the Rumble and the aftermath through to Wrestlemania which are both brilliant.
Over to you.

Getting my first WWF Video, on good old fashioned VHS. It cost £12 at Woolworths and was Summerslam 92 at Wembley Stadium.

Re: First Memory
Is it me or did they have better theme tunes back then. I remember the 6 man tag team match at the beginning of Summerslam 92 and the mountie coming out to his theme tune and giving the union jack the finger.
It was also the ppv that Hawk come in steaming drunk (or drugged up) and they could not perfom the Doomsday Device against Money Inc. They were supposed to fight inbetween Taker v Kamala and Bulldog v Hart, but ended up right at the beginning of the show. You should see him try and control the Harley he comes out with.
Ahhh the good ol' days of professional wrestling

Re: First Memory
The first real memory I have is of Fully Loaded 1999. My friends were talking about wrestling all the time and I decided to watch. Taker vs Austin from that night is still one of my favourite matches...
From there on I was looking forward to the RAW re-runs every Friday night and Smackdown on Saturdays. Well and truly hooked!

Hahaha that is a brilliant picture. Anybody else got some pics of the good old days? From now on, paste a picture of your favourite moments. This should be fun

Guys, try not to post pictures. We try and keep the site work friendly, and as much as Sting's face is funny, it'd be quite hard for somebody to explain why it's on their computer screen at work.
You can post links to the pictures.
I think my first memory of the WWE was seeing videos of Mick Foley crashing through the tables from the hell in the cell, this was years later though as without sky I didn't get to watch WWE properly until around 2004. Although since then I have watched gone back and watched a lot.

I am watching on DVD just now mate, Jack has just suplexed Hunter on to a wooden pallet. Those were the days, such a good match!
The other events I speak of are a naked 70 something prancing about the ring.

Re: First Memory
First memory was Ultimate Warrior running down the aisle with the IC title, getting into the ring, gorilla pressing Red Tyler, pinning him and then running out, all the while still wearing the title
. I think it was on WWF Superstars, back in the day when jobbers were getting beaten every week and there was only about 5 ppvs a year

I forgot that too until a thread a little while back re-introduced me...
The way they kept repeating it and King kept laughing made me cry with laughter!
Still my favourite Rumble and probably favourite PPV of all time. Maybe just because I got the day off school after to watch it.

Another thing that cracks me up about that specific Rumble is way that JR says 'Grand Master Sexay'. It has me in stitches every time. If I can get a video, i'll post it on here. Got to agree that the face plant will always live in the memory

Re: First Memory
My earliest memory is probably Wrestlemania 9, must have been watching before hand to get my dad to order it!
I loved Hogan coming down and winning the title, i was 9 at the time though.
Watched wwf/wwe on and off since then really, sometimes drift completely out, then drift right back in and be completely hooked again.

RR 2000 will forever be my favourite PPV. It was a classic, including the build up aftermath. Got it on DVD as one of them tagged classics. Came with RR 1999 but I'm not a huge fan of that one. Apart from Gillberg coming out to the ring with the fire extinguishers and stuff. Still cracks me up.
But yeah, everything AND I MEAN EVERYTHING (even Mae Young, which nearly killed me at the age of 10) was brilliant about that PPV.

First memory I have with wrestling is around the time I turned 10 and watching King of the Ring 1998 - Surprisingly didn't remember that much of the Hell in a Cell Taker v Manking but remember Shamrock winning and the First Blood Austin v Kane match. Even at the time I was thinking that Kane only had exposed skin on one arm and probably wouldn't lose... But we still had a screwy finish anyway! Russo 101!

I'm not sure on this one gaffer. Mania 7 was my 1st experience & this was definately Sky Movies + I borrowed it off my mate & was instantly hooked. Shortly after we got sky but my old man didn't buy the movie channels. Summerslam 91 I remember listening to the encrypted version of the Bret Hart Mr Perfect match & later watching my mates taped copy. I don't recall having the same problem for Survivor Series 91 or Tuesday Night in Texas my guess is that what the start of the coverage being switched to Sky Sports but I may be wrong the old man may have got his hand in his pocket & got the movies

My first memory was a promo macho man done just before wm5. He was wc and had the belt over his shoulder. I'd only ever seen belts around waists. I thought he was the coolest guy ever and I was right.
Fight wise, my mate had a tape of all the ultimate warrior/rude fights. I was hooked

I know WrestleMania VIII was definitely Sky Movies +, that was taped and it was one of my favourites to go back to and always remember the icon, I was just taking it for granted that every PPV until then was on the same station, what I will say though 4s that sometimes live sporting events would be broadcast on Sky1 which was free in a lot of homes in 1991 to help promote the new stations

Re: First Memory
Mine was going to my friends house and he had a Vhs video of summerslam 1990, I wasnt bothered about watching it because Id seem British wrestling and it was rubbish but he put it on and I loved it. The first match I saw was Texas tornado against Mr Perfect which was amazing then it went to the 2 out of 3 falls match between Demolition and Hart Foundation, with Ax joining in to cheat and Legion of Doom pilling in for the end. Probably the best tag team match of all time, you just dont see wrestling like that anymore.
I was a fan from that point on
