Best bet to get around it would be for the tackled player to pick the ball up and carry on.
My understanding is you're correct on both counts

Aim for the posts and score a try off the rebound. O'Shea's tactics are out of this world.

Hilarious!!! Well at least we're getting the bad game out of the way so we should be good for Scotland and Ireland.

Danny Care lost all composure 30 seconds into the game. He's been panicking ever since.
Not sure why Poite called advantage over for the pen either ...

England absolutely sleeping here.
Great for Italy but I can't see jones letting them be like this in the second half or in two weeks against us

To be fair to Care....not a lot he can do. If Italy aren't forming the ruck and are coming round to cut off his passing options the forwards need to start picking and driving.

Not sure england have a good game yet. Two last minute wins in their last two matches.
Looking very shaken especially up front. Can't understand why England are persisting with losing the forward battle. Get the ball out wide.

There are going to be a few black eyes coming back after half time and this time Eddie is going to be dishing them out rather than taking them.

Is Hughes seriously the next best 8 in England after Billy V? Surely not - useless lump!

It might help if he stops passing to Italy players mind. I understand the tactis emloyed by Italy are something they wouldnt have prepared for but Care has provided absolutely zero direction from scrum half. If Ben Youngs had done the same people would be calling for his head.

The forwards have to, have to take control of ruck non ruck situation.
They need to get physical, nasty physical.

And will. Because I'm sure Eddie is telling a few people their International careers might be cut short if they don't go out and man-up.

Re: England vs Italy
Care can't deal with this though, if the England forwards just keep being dumb and piling into a ruck that isn't a ruck and waiting for him to get stuck with the ball and No options there's nothing he can do.
Forwards have to rustle together some brain cells abd counter this tactic.

English forwards using all the muscles except the one that matters. If it's not a ruck and you have been tackled, get up and play the ball

I think for the maul pen against Cole, Poite calls the wrong number. Cole clearly comes straight through the middle. There's at least one other England player in at the side but Cole is seen running back once the maul splinters and so gets called out incorrectly.
Care and Launchbury need to go for me. Care looks clueless and Launchbury is little better. Sadly we need to keep Hughes on as there's not another big 8.

Re: England vs Italy
To be fair, every team has a way of playing that is dependant on rucks being formed to create their phaseplay. England do need to be thinking better. But this tactic would confuse many a side imo.

Strange 1st half but very entertaining Who would have believed Italy would win the 1st half?
Sure England will have sorted themselves out now, and claim a bonus point win.
