That's a knock on at the base.
Has Brown passed the ball in this game?
Serious question.

I wouldn't fancy trying to write player ratings for Scotland after that. Dunbar and Huw Jones, having both been mentioned as potential Lions, let themselves down in defence terribly in the first half.
England certainly responded to the criticism they've had, big performance today.

Well played England. A proper performance
Shame we ran out of players there. Never a hope of pulling it back with 2 x no 9 and 2 x no 10 on the pitch

The whole back 5 were awesome today, tackling carrying, lineout and scrums going well.
The F-F-J partnership looks truly world class given decent ball and that pack will give you good ball for at least 20 minutes. I would have liked to see Brown off, Watson at 15 and May on for the last 20 just to see how it went.
Hard luck Scotland, injuries hurt you, but realistically even with Hogg, you would have been blown away by that performance

This is all Lancaster's fault, if he'd got out of his group he'd still be coach and Wales would be winners next week when we beat France.

It would be a disgrace if England don't have the lion's share (hehe) of lion's places. They are by far the best squad in the NH.
Watson, JJ, Itoje, Launchbury, Farrell, Marler, Nowell, Haskell, Billy are comfortably the best players in their position and should be starting.

Very Confucian moment there on telly.
Wilkinson describing very accurately how England posed attacking challenges. His old boss, Woodward, interrupts him to make the same point, then McGeechan - the Lions coaching alpha male - interrupts Woodward to say the same thing.
The confucian concept of respect for elders could not be more evident. Probably better for everyone to just let Wilkinson finish.

Itoje? best 6. That shirt is Stander's first and Warburton's second. Haskell will be doubtful to tour. Marler and Nowell also doubtful.

If Nowell is doubtful to tour you're really doubting the selection abilities of the coach.Gwlad wrote:mid_gen wrote:It would be a disgrace if England don't have the lion's share (hehe) of lion's places. They are by far the best squad in the NH.

Brown is very frustrating. He is an exceptional defensive fb but really lacks in attacks. I think it was Poufour who proposed the non-passing possession theory, but I just don't buy it. Brown does not even consider passing, does not shape his play to provide a pass. You might lay some blame on the wings failure to link with him but as he is the player coming from depth he is the one making the decisions.
And yet other aspects of his game are very very good. Like I say very frustrating.

But you have to admit England deserve to be crowned champions.

TightHEAD there is such a thing as being a bad winner. You are proving there is such a thing as a rancid smelly carbuncle of a winner.
The rest of you English fans enjoy that win. You totally earned it and if they continue to play like that, Ford Farrell and JJ for the Lions.

Brown did pass in the first half. I think it was one of his best games in a long while.
To a degree I do buy into P4's analysis.

Gatland to select a load of England players for the Lions, force them into Gatlandball rugby and away from the fast open rugby they're currently accustomed to, resulting in the England boys becoming bemused and bewildered and losing confidence in their game, so that next year's 6N and beyond England are back to being mediocre. Thanks Gats!

Re: 6N 2017: England vs Scotland (take 2)
My take?
Scotland were overpowered. They were a bit unlucky. Unlucky insofar as Italy gave England a fright, and what Scotland faced was the England that could be, rather than what had been.
Scotland did show what by they could do when they had the ball, and if they had not been so unlucky with injuries to the backs - their main attacking weapon - they might have got a bonus point.
But they still wouldn't have won.
Well done England.
