GG - don't get confused. When the ABs do anything it's a "world record" because they need the feeling that they matter in the globe.
Cyprus have a claim, why not?
England have a way to go to beat Jahangir Khan's 555 consecutive game wins!

Its a bit like saying Daisuke Ohata isnt the top international try scorer in rugby because he played for Japan.

No, no. Hold on - not so hasty.
So let me get this right, this Rugby Union International side with a better win sequence record than both England and New Zealand were denied the publicity to crow about it by the admin boys at World Rugby who allowed false data to be used to promote both New Zealand's and now England's run at a supposed world record that isn't one?
Scandalous stuff of Fake News proportions!

Its not a world record though, Cyprus have the record with 24 wins.
The record is consecutive wins against teir one nations. *
Its the record that the All Blacks have been trading off for some time, England didnt invent thi sos dont blame them. Its still better than claiming the record for unicycling backwards in baked beans on a tuesday for a person named Keith.
Im sure Ireland would takle it right now anyway.
And yes the future schedule does bode well for extending it ... the 3 Argentina games includes the AIs. That said the summer tour will be done shirt of players, there may well be other withdrawls for surgery etc. England have been mugged out there before.
Theres also been a lot of talk of New Zelaand trying to negotiate an extra fixture in the AI period on the grounds
* Yes Wales are included in that, again dont blame the RFU Im sure they were first in line to lodge complaint

Are Fiji a tier one nation? Or Uruguay?
If not then England must be only on 16?

It's not against tier 1 nations. It's by a tier 1 nation.
Both NZ and ENG records include wins over tier 2/3 nations.

Given this was only brought up in relation to whether England's run was significant as they had avoided NZ I think we can all congratulate Cyprus and still acknowledge it's not the same.

Yes, but it's a great test - I remember that the wins in Argentina on 2001 were one of the key building blocks for the 2003 side.
Cyprus's record is a good one, but in reality there's a big difference between playing Tier 1 nations and not playing them. The quality below tier 1 is so variable that a good squad can have a material advantage over their peers for quite some time.

Fiji and Uruguay aren't tier one but are 53 and 42 places above Cyprus' best win. Maybe the stat should be adjusted though.

I never lost a match at secondary school (5 years) and we played 20 odd matches a season, therefore I hold the record for most wins.

ABs avoided a few countries in their 18 game run.
Of the top 10 isn't the only one missing from England's list NZ?

If England are only on 16, then New Zealand are only on 15, given their run included wins over the might of Namibia (the lowest ranked team played by either side), Georgia and Tonga.
Glass houses, stones and all that.

New Zealand ain't throwing any stones though. It's just the record books that have finally cast one.
Anyway, to show that I like to keep things balanced, I know the English are shy so I'll elaborate on the Cyprus boys. Turns out it's mostly English players that got their record anyway. So don't feel so let down. The English just can't avoid records, even when they're outgunning themselves

Youre correct ... Teaches me tro go with BBC articles.
The record would actually be for "High Performance" nations, World Rugby doesnt recogniose the old Tier system anymore. Its essentially the old Tier 1&2.
Trade descriptions act with Scotland last weekend ...but again dont blame the RFU for that. Or for New Zealand ducking them.

To be fair they have to make back some of the lost World Cup revenue somewhere.

Isn't it NZ dodging England, not the other way round? Weren't NZ complaining about revenue? Refusing to play at Twickenham etc?

Nope - they're quids in from RWC 15. RFU met their ticket and sponsorship sales targets (some way ahead of the tournament, IIRC) so trousered a nice surplus even after the record payment to World Rugby.
All in all, the school report on RWC 15 was A on Spectacle, A on Organisation, A* on Finances and F on Home Team Performance. But by using some of the extra cash to hire Eddie Jones, they're at least a B+ on resits.

The RFU are refusing to pay, so NZRU are refusing to play. Who's dodging who depends on whose side you're on. I don't think Eddie's trying to dodge them, at any rate.

NZ "dodged" Scotland in their 18 game winning run. Doesn't count.
Here's a good analysis of the two runs:

Yeah had a look at the average rankings earlier. NZ have better average opponents (mainly the Italy factor once we strip tier 2 opponents), England beat more of the top 10 and England with more away wins. Most significant for me is that NZs included a WC win.

It's interesting.... the battle.
But look at it this way. New Zealand have already started their 'catch-up' on England's 'record' before England has actually reached it. So they're off to try to reach a new summit and England have to wait until the lose to get after them
So it makes sense - if England lose next week, that means they'll get chasing after New Zealand quicker. The longer they leave it to lose, the later they get started on the chase.
Eddie. Don't be a fool. Don't delay.

Isn't that because the NZRU demanded more money?
Just looked it up - NZ doubling their match fee. Pricing themselves out of the market.
Seems like NZ dodging England that's for sure.
