Flood would be a fantastic signing for Edinburgh. It doesn't help Scotland's depth at 10 at all, but then again neither does Weir.

Apparently Flood's off home to Newcastle though

Here's something to give everyone a laugh - Edinbrugh actually had an awards do....
It also confirms that Helu, Northam, Beavon and Tofilau are off
Edinburgh Rugby last night paid tribute to those who have excelled in the black and red this season at the players’ annual awards dinner.
There were five winners across six award categories including a new accolade, Hamilton and Inches Most Improved Player of the Season which was awarded to Magnus Bradbury.
The Scotland internationalist was also recognised as Young Player of the Season, with his back-row colleagues Hamish Watson and Bill Mata scooping Player of the Season and Best Newcomer, respectively.
After being named in the Guinness PRO12 Dream Team last week, Ben Toolis was voted as Players’ Player of the Season, while club stalwart Ross Ford picked up the Roddy Grant Iron Man accolade for his commitment across the course of the year.
The squad and staff also bid farewell to a number of players leaving the club at the end of the season including Nick Beavon, Will Helu, Alex Northam, Sasa Tofilau, and Kyle Whyte.
Award winners
Player of the Season – Hamish Watson
Players’ Player of the Season – Ben Toolis
Hamilton and Inches Most Improved Player – Magnus Bradbury
Best Newcomer – Viliame Mata
Young Player of the Season – Magnus Bradbury
Roddy Grant Iron Man – Ross Ford
Leavers
Jack Cosgrove, Nasi Manu, Michael Allen, Will Helu, Alex Northam, Nick Beavon, Sasa Tofilau, Kyle Whyte
It also confirms that Helu, Northam, Beavon and Tofilau are off

is Mata really our best newcomer?
That said I'm trying to think of anyone else who's played enough to justify that award from our newer signings.
Win by default?

I love that Hamilton & Inches sponsor one of the awards. How very Edinburgh!!
The "Roddy Grant Iron Man" should surely have gone to Hamish Watson as well, and possibly most improved player as well.
For "Best Newcomer" see "Least Terrible Newcomer".

I got Mrs RDW's engagement ring from there - she had joked in the past that she would say no if it came from anywhere else!
Just in case it was one of those 'jokes' that women tell that actually are the full truth and nothing but the truth I thought it would be best not to risk it...

I had to google who they were when I read they were the sponsor of an award.
I feel I am letting the Edinburgh contingent down.....and my wife I guess.

Absolutely c.ock-a-hoop with that world cup draw
Don't care what anyone says, Japan shouldn't trouble us in the world cup so we should be reaching the Q/F.
The carrot is also there in that if we beat the tattie worriers (which again is entirely possible) then odds are we'll face SA in the QF who are entirely beatable. We'd then not face NZ till the final (if we got that far)
Bar NZ, there really isn't anyone I'd actually fear playing against other than those pesky Englanders who seem to always up their game when meeting us! Swines!
What ya reckon. Scotland vs NZ in the final?
Dark horses?
Too soon?

So if I were to ask who the least appropriate player to play 7s might be what would you say - a prop, 2nd row maybe, Ben Atiga?
Nope.
Jack Cuthbert has been called up to the Scotland 7s squad.
(that's the closest emoticon I could get for something moving very slowly)

Obviously Warren "Ugly Barsteward" Gatland wants him to stay fit in case the Lions need a (token non-welsh) third choice 10/15. This would be preferable to calling up that pesky unpredictable Russell, or taking Hoggie away from midweek duties.

Oh dear. Warren has started going senile
He sent the below email
"Dear union
In order to keep him ready for a likely call up to the Lions, can you bring the giant flier Cuthbert into your 7s squad
Cheers
Gats"
Only issue is he meant to send it to the welsh union!

Didn't he play 7s before? Sure he was in the team 3-4 years ago.
Still odd given he's older and probably even slower, but he has history there.

Matt Scott starting for Gloucester in the final tomorrow.
All this talk of needing a big physical centre for Edinburgh - we had one and lost him to Gloucester!
He's been on great form for them this season and looks to have really matured as a rugby player.

could it be that Cuthbert is being 'sharpened up' in the sevens, just in case he is required as a back up 15 for us in Australia??

I've been really impressed with him at Glaws this season, and he seems to now be equally comfortable at 12 or 13 which is handy (Dunbar and Taylor also share that quality).
If Maitland does miss the tour, I'd put Taylor at 15 and have Dunbar/Scott in the centres. Then you can have your fliers, Visser and Hoyland, on the wings. As long as Finn Russell stays with us and combines with Ali Price, that's a pretty handy backline.

Is it time to compose a list of awards for folk to vote on over the next few weeks while we wait for the lions to kick off?

Good signing! The right kind of pedigree - proven try scorer in Super Rugby.
He's getting on a bit for a winger at 30 and has been relaxing himself in the Japan leagues so hopefully he can get up to speed at the top level again.

I think he was signed for his ball handling skills.
RDW asked if his nickname should be Clapton. In that vein I'm thinking "Slowhand".

Taking it easy in Japan is always a bit of a worry, but in truth most of these guys do it strictly for the money, which is much better in Japan.
Rennie, who you would imagine is a pretty good judge of these things, presumably still thinks he has got it. His CV certainly looks the business.

Only slight problem is that it is Lelia Massaga, not Layla Massager. Details, I know!
