NZ have made rather short work of chasing Sri Lanka's 356/8, with Guptill retiring on 116 & Williamson on 88 before Broome & Anderson knocked off the remainder.
Most of the 9 bowlers NZ used shipped runs (SL used 8 recognised batsmen) & all 7 SL bowlers were fairly expensive. Note it was a squad vs squad field 11 & bat 11 match.

Re: Champions Trophy 2017 Squads
Sri Lanka have had a really poor build up to this tournament - would expect them to be the worst side on show.
Not sure it got a mention on here but they were soundly defeated by Scotland

No doubt Stokes will, not for the first time, be unfit for the PROPER cricket when it begins with Tests against SA in July.

Re: Champions Trophy 2017 Squads
Yeah it's pretty rare anyone chases down a score that high ...especially if they are rubbish and the opposition has a decent bowling attack. It's not even like it's a batsman paradise pitch.
In terms of the India innings they did get a bit bigger down but it's the chaps who should have been accelerating that scratched around and got out ...notably yuvraj.
That aside they had to be confident and bacjntheir bowlers to defend a total well over 300. Recent years may have seen a notable shift up on par scores but even so that must be seen as the sort of total that would win most games.
Pointing the finger at guys who scored in excess of 200 runs at almost one a ball isn't fair. Or the batting unit as a whole. It's the bowlers that let them down, and the Sri Lankan last all weighing in with brave runs. Maybe they rode their luck a bit too ...but when you're chasing a big total that's what you need to do.
Really blown the group way open, and England would be happy knowing there's a good chance one if India or S.A. will be out. If Aus fail to qualify too it leaves them with only one strong challenger....although we have seen that anyone in this tournament can beat any of the others on their day.
No weak teams. No wasted games. Good stuff.
