Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Thread
Leadership (at least on the pitch) is something that can be gauged. If there is money available to strengthen all areas then target a LB who is both an improvement in terms of ability AND displays leadership quality.(Obviously harder to gauge a players leadership off the pitch). Also Moreno leaving will free up more funds/wage.
I understand the points you are making, but for me I still think a new first team LB is a must.

I'm 90% sure you'll be disappointed come August in that case.

I'll watch Liverpool whenever they play on sky/BT like every other neutral - I'm with lfc on this debate

I feel Crimey may be in the minority in terms of LFC fans who want a new first team LB but that he is also right in regards to what Klopp will likely do, buy a young LB and keep Milner there another season or two...

Newcastle hoping to complete Tammy Abraham loan deal. Interesting capture & low risk. Can he deliver in the PL will be the ?

The hype trains ran away a little too quickly with him. Think he could use another year in the 2nd tier with guaranteed game time.

Read that Clarke could be leaving John.
On Villa page said we could be interested in taking him back.
Don't think I'd want him back.

It's supposedly come from a pretty reliable journalist and I wouldn't be hugely surprised if they were bidding knowing it will probably be rejected but shows more ambition, particularly for Ozil and Sanchez who are questioning the direction of the club.

Rumoured that Newcastle have met the release clause (£8.7m) for defender Florian Lejeune of Eibar. Seen him a few times last year, strong & particularly good in the air, helping Eibar to a top 10 finish in La Liga.

Until the ACON comes around & it all ends up going pear shaped.
Salah was distinctly average in the PL, looks similar to the Gervinho story this, goes to the Serie A & the stats explode.

This is quite the worry for such a high fee. However there is also the possibility that he has improved as a player in the past 3 years. Was still very young when he came to the prem after all.
Also, the more likely possibility that we refuse to pay what they want and he ends up at City or Chelsea or 'Insert rich club'.

Other players to struggle to make an impact at Chelsea include Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Daniel Sturridge so it's certainly worth the risk considering his form in Italy. Got double figures for both goals and assists last year.

I'd hazard a guess that Eden won't be the transfer saga of the summer. Neither Bale.
There's always one. Lukaku or De Gea?
Alderweireld should be being tempted by City, Chelsea and Man United. They can all three blow up the wage structure at Tottenham, if they should be looking to bully Spurs and take the best centre back in the league

In excess of £50m is expected, although some journalists saying there is no way Southampton have entered discussions yet and the player is contracted until 2022

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Thread
I don't think there is an agreement between the clubs at all. What is being reported is that Van Dijk wants to move to Liverpool rather than Chelsea or Manchester City. As we're prepared to offer him the same wages, Van Dijk has chosen us because of the level of Klopp's personal involvement in trying to get the transfer over the line. Should this deal go through it would be a real step in the right direction. Having seen numerous targets end up at rival clubs it'd show a great sign of progress and the strength of having Klopp if we can actually beat other sides to our top targets.

Fingers crossed it will be a cash + player deal involving sahko. Save on the overall transfer fee and free up wages.(Plus eliminate the probable scenario of no one paying the asking fee and him going on a free after a few seasons spent out on loan).

If I were Southampton I'd be demanding Sakho at close to a throw in.
Why take on his wages and bail Liverpool out of a mistake.

Because then they would have a direct replacement for VVD (In many peoples eyes still Liverpools best CB). I understand your point, but as Liverpool have already shown they won't be letting him go below what they consider his value, the likely outcome of that is that he wouldn't be included in any deal, then Southampton have to go out and sign a new CB anyway (and as the market has shown of late, CBs are at a premium).

Win win scenario in my eyes. They get substantial money and a ready made replacement for a player who wants to leave. We get the player we want and rid of a player who is surplus.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Thread
Assuming Southampton even want Sakho.
They hold the asset Liverpool want desperately under contract, they hold the cards and they aren't desperate to sell. Liverpool can hardly sit there with and demand a premium from Southampton when they're trying to simultaneously pay a premium to replace him.
Also VVD may want Liverpool, but Southampton aren't obliged to listen to one offer only. That swap would have to be very balanced in my favour to bring me to the table.

Really good thing you and I aren't in charge of getting this deal over the line, would never get done in a million years!!
But assuming they adopted your approach, better to pay a cash + add ons deal and sell Sahko separately for closer to market value. Rather than let him go as a lesser value make weight to Southampton.

Out of curiosity though what would that swap look like to you? (Assuming the market value both clubs seems to be going by, 30 & 60).
Mine would be 40 + Sahko.

In this deal Southampton hold all the leverage. Liverpool have to be prepared to pay a premium (and seem to be) to get it done.

In that case I would be much more inclined to sell Sahko separately and try to recoup as much of the fee paid to Southampton as possible.

Salah deal appears to have hit the inevitable 'we won't pay your asking prices' stumbling block we have experienced all too often at LFC.(Pretty sure it actually happened first time around with Salah pre-chelsea!).
Wonder how long it will be before the Redmond links....

To be honest I'm slightly confused as to why Salah. Liverpool are hardly short on options to play in the areas behind the front man. I'd say it's probably every other position in more urgent need of upgrades, and he doesn't solve the problem of Mane going to the ACON
