For all the stats that can be thrown at me, and question marks over Serie a, I've watched a lot of Lukaku and quite a bit of Belotti too, and there's not a lot that will convince me Lukaku is the better player.
He is capable of great things and can be unplayable. He is a great player. But Belotti is clearly better. I just can't see how the opposite can be justified.

To me, just watching them play. Belotti is more skilful, is more involved in and contributes more to the game, he's sharper and cleverer. Lukaku is faster and more powerful, but his ball control is appalling and is missing from games more.
I'm not saying Lukaku isn't quality, he is and I don't want him to leave us. Rooney is a big step down for us and we need to use the money to replace his goals. But I see Belotti as better.

I'd argue though that the points in which Lukaku excels is exactly what Mourinho is wanting in a number 9 for Utd, and you may well be right that Belotti turns out to be the better player, that necessarily though doesn't mean he's the better player for a certain team etc.

I can't argue with that. He could be exactly what United need, and his friendship with Pogba is a big tick in Lukakus favour.

You know me. I'm not saying I'm right and everyone else is wrong.
I'm just giving my opinion that Belotti is better than Rom, and that to me it seems obvious. I believe that I am right, but not so arrogant as to not respect other opinions.

Lukaku is a pretty safe bet as safe bets go for what he can do, consistent scorer over the seasons, knows the league, area, manager and players. Belotti could well turn out to be the better overall but it would be far more of a gamble for Utd.

Fair enough. I'd certainly go for Lukaku over Morata or Aubameyang.
A better safe bet would have been Kane. How much is he worth if Lukaku is £90m.

Again though I don't think Kane is the right jigsaw piece. Spurs with Levy would fleece any club for >120m in this current market.

That may be why people don't feel you're quite eager to be open to debate.

You taking what I have said completely wrongly and out of context. I'm saying that from my watching of both players, I can't see it as close, and that to me Belotti is clearly better.
Not that you can't justify it and I'm not open to debate. I'd hope others who know me well would back me up that I am not that ignorant.
For the record, your justification doesn't sway me. The stats don't sway what I judge with my own eyes

That's fine, but you can see why it would be a justification.
I don't think one genuinely wow season of Belotti should have him up at the echelons you have him, but it's a game of opinions. I agree on the style of Lukaku being huge for them too.
I hope we get to find out in the league though!

Also, my concern with Lukaku when he was potentially coming to Chelsea was that he isn't a European striker simply as he's not been able to prove that yet and obviously Chelsea are back in the CL next season and need a striker who can do that, especially if Costa is actually on his way out.

I keep reading that United let him go on a free transfer. If that's true, maybe it allows Everton to pay him more cash? A sign on fee or something like that to help cover his pay cut?GSC wrote:Rooney signs for Everton for 2 years on a free. Wonder if United are paying some salary.
If United have let him go for free, I hope they're not paying out money for Rooney.

If United are paying part of Rooney's wages - then that represents a loan deal and not a transfer? Worldwide Rooney's name still probably has a significant market value - and presumably the trademark licence transfers to Everton?

I've heard we are paying him £150k a week which makes him our top earner. No idea if United are paying him for the last year of his contract or not.

Not worth 150k but Rooney might do a decent job for Everton, a fresh start might be just the kick up the backside he needs. If he's a regular starter, I see no reason why he shouldn't get 15 to 20 goals for them, maybe more.

Being reported that Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is close to a £35m move to Manchester United. Imagine the look on Conte's face if Mourinho nabs Lukaku and Bakayoko from his grasp

There's no way he should be a regular starter after all the money they've splashed (and continue too - Sigurdsson to be confirmed tomorrow)

Rooney's going to have to rediscover some long lost form to be a regular starter.
He's going to be a squad player with our European games in mind, and to bring a bit of experience to the good group of youngsters we have coming through.
Also he is still a big name in the Far East, so will be part of keeping some of our sponsors happy.
Farewell to Lukaku. Going to miss the goals, if not the attitude and bi-annual interview with Belgian newspapers about how he is ready for a bigger club.

I don't get it personally. yes I'm thankful for what he's achieved at united and he has been a big part of our recent history, but if anything I think he overstayed his welcome by a good two seasons (obvs not his fault Moyes first order of business was a new contract). Best of luck to him and all that. I hope he does well at Everton but certainly not going to lose sleep over a player who has been on the sharpest of declines for 2 years
I don't see there being any truth in the Bakayoko story personally.
Jim white apparently said Moshiri has advised 3 new players still to arrive at Everton. Not mentioned names though....Sigurdson? Giroud? Can't think of who the third may be, have they been linked with any other positions

I reckon the rumour has been instigated by someone close to Chelsea so that when Chelsea announce the signing the fans have a sense of revenge for Lukaku.

Firstly from all the local reports down here, £8m won't be anywhere near enough to get him. Apparently we're after £15m, which is ludicrous but he did sign a new contract until 2021 in January, so unlike Redmond we don't need to sell him this summer.
On the player himself - he's a great talent, but he's still pretty raw. I think he could play PL and not disgrace himself, but he's going to take another year or two of development before being a proper PL player imo. Sounds very very English, but he does need to become a bit stronger and braver - he's easily brushed off the ball. No doubting his eye for goal and skill on the ball tho
We have said every player has a price this summer, so if you really do want him you could probably get him. But it won't be £8m from what I've seen/heard.

Belotti would easily match Lukaku's goal tally. Scored more goals in a more defensive league
Not the 1990s anymore.

Hernandez deal a problem cos he's on £125k a week and we don't wanna pay it.
