I love Hernandez, always have, so I'm incredibly happy.
Also, the thought of him and Carroll playing the odd game as Quinn and Phillips makes me laugh. Intrigued to see if a throwback little and large combo works

Izzy Brown joining Brighton from Chelsea on loan.
Will be a useful squad player. Means we can loan Towell out to get some experience.

It's a Real Madrid ego trip to ensure that the world record is theirs for the foreseeable future.

Until PSG buy Neymar.
In fairness to them though it's a practice that's worked for them over the years.

It has worked to an extent but I also think they've been guilty of deliberately inflating prices by paying over the odds something they definitely did with Pepe and Ramos.

Not only though in a 'buy Player A, win x number of trophies' way though, presume purely in a marketable sense the players that they've gone and thrown cash at have over the length of their contract then generated huge pots of income for the club.
They bought Beckham for £25m, he made the club £300m, over the course of Becks career he sold over £1 billions worth of shirts and boots.
Good football clubs buy players to win trophies
Intelligent football clubs buy players to win marketing deals.

Ramos would have sold them a fair few shirts, Pepe will have shifted a few branded baseball bats.
Nowadays you can get 1 and a bit Kyle Walker's for the price they paid for Ramos and Pepe combined

I think was the Everton thinking when buying back Rooney, for his marketability in the Far East

I was amazed at the level of overseas backlash at Utd on social media when Rooney went, UK fans were for the most part glad to get him off the wage bill but fans from Thailand etc were going off their nut!

That's not quite the point I was making, they drove prices up in the hope it would affect other teams.Afro wrote:Ramos would have sold them a fair few shirts, Pepe will have shifted a few branded baseball bats.

shirt selling is mainly nonsense, majority of the deals for shirts is that the makers get the majority if not all of the income from sold shirts. its why they pay millions upon millions to sponsor the big clubs.
taken from the bbc regarding the neymar deal:
There are, of course, shirt sales. Fans of PSG and football fans in general will flock to the shops to buy the new Neymar shirts. But how much will the cash will the club get from the tills?
Their shirts are sponsored by Nike and, according to reports, the club are paid about 24m euros (£21.5m) per season by the sportswear company.
"There's a myth around shirt sales," adds Wilson. "The shirt manufacturer will take the lion's share of the profits from the sales.
"So, for example, the £75m Adidas pay Manchester United per year is a fixed fee. It doesn't matter how many shirts they sell and the players that help sell those, they'll only have that £75m per year.

Not exactly true, Utd still get 15% of the profits on shirt sales as well as the 75m from Adidas.
Adidas though are set to double their 750m investment as a result of the deal.

Either way, sell more shirts, get a better deal next time. Whether it is a fixed amount or not, the clubs control the brand and make more if they make themselves more marketable

where did you get the 15% from hero? cant find it anywhere? my understanding of the deal was adidas make money on the shirts but united kept other merchandise like united bedding, clocks etc aswell as being able to sell of rights to training gear separately

ive also never understood how they claim a player sells so many shirts. who claims just united shirts? the majority of people i know who wear shirts dont have names on the backs and i cant see how they would record every single printing company and whats put on every shirt

In the Far East the exception is to not have the player name on the shirt and a large percentage of those shirt sales are in these markets.
But you are right, it's not so much shirt sales but other branded merchandise that comes with it. Plus other sponsorship deals where players promote companies

I'd read it a few places, recall there was a caveat that the 15% only kicked in after a certain number of shirts were sold each year but cannot recall the number required.

Koeman - Barkley 100% certain to leave.
Wouldn't be surprised if ended up as part of a deal for Giroud.

Would you want Barkley if you were wenger?
Never got the hype behind Barkley, average player.
Spurs will probably be interested given levy doesn't want to spend serious money.

Barkley would be great for Arsenal - I don't really get why Everton are selling him...he was one of the top chance creators in Europe last year among U23 players, ahead of guys like Lemar/Dembele

#stats
Dembele had 20 assists to barkleys 8. Lemar 14. Both had plenty in cl.
They are selling him as he has turned down a new contract and wants to leave for a new challenge.

So much ability but too unreliable. A real confidence player, but doesn't take much to knock it down.
He wants to leave and I think that is best for all. As he is one of our own, fans expectations increase. A change of scenery could kickstart his career, whilst we can cash in and move on.

always thought barkley had a bit of a wilshere about him, had plenty of smoke blow up his arse and believed quite a bit of it that his progress just stalled. wilshere will probably blame injuries but think attitude is a problem with both

Latest player to be linked to united........Emil Forsberg, RB Leipzig winger who registered 19 league assists last season. Credit where its due its a new name from the press (rather than a rehash of the old Bale/Ronaldo/Gaitan et al), but given RBs stance when Liverpool approached for Keita they've obviously shown no interest in selling any players so this one is as good as dead in the water before an official big has gone in as far as I'm concerned
