Ah you can prove anything with facts.
Mind you, I was mulling over the conversation I had with a couple of the criminal element in Edinburgh airport after the Wallaby's lucky escape in the AI's. One of them (who looked not unlike Bob Dwyer) had been saying how frustrated Ben Toolis was by the fact that Old Stoneface was not really giving him any specific targets in relation to how he could improve in order to get into the Scotland squad. I sympathised, saying that being behind G Gilchrist would be a sickener for any decent second row (and a few rank badyins too) and said that when Toonie took over thre would be no shortage of targets, feedback and learning opportunities. " Sure mate, Gregor's been on the blower regularly telling him to keep at it." Was the rapid, and I mean rapid, response. Toonie's first squad: Toolis in and Gilchrist out. Toonie's first response to injury: no-one in and Gilchrist still out. I think the Toonmeister is sending a subtle message here.
What's this got to do with the Jones clan? Fecced if I know.

Looking at the new intake of full time players to the SRU's academy I notice Robbie Nairn has obviously returned from Quins as was rumoured, however a couple of other names caught my eye; Sam Yawayawa who's joined from Leicester and George Stokes who's joined from Toulon. Whats do we know about these players, I don't think they were in the recent U20s set up?

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread 17 - Almost Legal
Sam Yawayawa, son of a Fijian Soldier, was in the Scotland under 16 set up, but he is dual qualified and then switched to England. He played for their U18s at the age of 16 and was snapped up by Leicester. He was touted as a star of the future, but his career seems to have stalled a little bit since then.
If he delivers on some of his early promise, then he may be quite a catch.

Yaway 'the lads'
I'm not really putting any thought into this.
he seems to have gone back and forwards with international representation, I assume it's just down to where he's been living rather than anything else.

Not sure about a sobriquet yet, they must be earned after all.
But fairly sure the North Stand should be singing,
"Yawayawa, Yawayawa Hey Hey Yayawayawa" .
That was for all the Bananarama fans out there.

Wait until you see Mrs Coman. Lovely.
I'm pleased that he's worked out well for you. He put in a shift for Edinburgh as well, put probably lacked a bit of power for my liking. He had a slow start for us, but became a reliable player towards the end (which is the opposite of how most SH signings pan out for us).
I watched the game last night, Cowan played well also.

The relegation fight in the AP next season is going to be interesting - LI are a better team than Bristol but are they better than Worcester, Sale & Newcastle etc? I think it is going to be a real challenge for LI to stay up.

fES, Cowan has been excellent all season, back to his form of a couple of years ago for us (he was shocking last year, really fell off) and has formed a really good partnership with Coman.
RDW, next season will be a proper challenge. The good thing for us is that at this moment in time we've not lost any players that we wanted to keep, and have offloaded some dead wood. If all rumoured signings are correct then we will have our best squad in a long time. I can see it being a really tight battle next season with the league almost split in 2 (Wasps, Chiefs, Sarries, Tigers, Bath and Saints competing at the top and Quins, Falcons, Sale, Gloucester, Worcester and us having very little between us).

Falcons have recruited very well, and their backline is looking pretty tasty - added to Sinoti, Socino, Takulua and Goneva, we'll now have DTH, Maxime Mermoz and the Matavesi brothers. Plus Twinkle-Toes Welsh as well!
If the forwards can lay a platform, Falcons could really challenge for Champions Cup rugby by the end of the season.

We've been invaded by another Mod! - It's bad enough in here with GC and Admin boy!
LI will struggle next season but I reckon they'll stay up with Worcester being the bottom of the table.
Mike Coman is indeed a work horse. And his leadership skillz are almost Kellockian.
Falcons will be there or thereabouts next season and I'm going for a 6th place finish for them Mr Stones.

I can imagine the conversation in the Falcons boardroom.
"You know gentlemen, this playing at running a rugby club isn't quite as much fun as one thought it was going to be. What say we have some japes with the salt of the earth Geordie types who pay for all this."
" What you mean those Why-aye pretty lass types like that insufferable Bru character? One can barely understand him when he opens his mouth. Can he actually
"Not like a native, no. But he is from beyond the wall. No, no, it's the natives. The ones who can't spot a syllable without feeling the need to strangle it. Let's pack the team with polysyllabic Polynesian types. then listen to the local radio phone-ins."
" What fun. It'll be Faustino Asprillo all over again. Or better, we may even get another Mirandinha song. All together lads,
"We've got Mirandinha
He's not from Argentina
He's from Brazil
And he is brill."
Apologies if this seems rather off topic but any excuse to work in the Mirandinha chant is a good enough excuse.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread 17 - Almost Legal
Happy Coman found his feet at LI (a bit like Piers Francis in NZ). He lacks that something to really be a top club 6. The problems at Edinburgh probably hurt him and when you play in a bad team with 2 up-and-coming 6/8's in Ritchie and Bradbury, it is hard for fans to appreciate a squad 6.
With a big number 8 (if you fancy other Edinburgh scarred players and can keep them healthy, Manu and Denton would be good fits especially Denton), he can balance out the back row.

Samuel Vunisa signs on at Glasgow from Sarries - Fijian born back-row, but pays for Italy and formerly Zebre.
If Glasgow have aspirations of making a significant mark in Europe again, I would have hoped for a more ambitious signing.
Cory Flynn is also no longer at the club, which seems slightly odd given he had another year on his contract.

Flynn's playing for the Baabaas - retirement swansong like Dusatoir?

I noticed that, he wasn't listed as a Warriors player either - so maybe this is him calling it a day.

Sam Vunisa....
Former clubs;
Taranaki... so he has experience of NZ club rugby GOOD, but didn't step up to the top flight BAD
Calvisano.. knows the Pro 12, apparently scored 19 times in 48 appearances GOOD, left there for Saracens GOOD
Saracens... signed by one of the top sides in NH, GOOD, scored 6 times in 13 games, GOOD. Was unable to get a regular first team place, NOT SO GOOD, but it is Saracens and the competition is mighty tough.
My gut feeling is that Glasgow must be make or break for his pro career: either he is happy that he has made the most of his talent and has done himself justice or he feels he has not really been a success at a big club ...yet.
He could be a good signing, if he has the hunger still.

It's an odd one, Jimbo - according to the Sarries website he has only played 7 times for the club...hardly a ringing endorsement.
My gut feeling is that he isn't the type of player we needed, our no.8 options are now Wilson, Ashe or Vunisa, which just isn't good enough to make an impression at the top table im afraid.

Continuing the Italian theme for another year. If he can be a big ball carrying 6/8 option to complement a Wilson and Gibbons back row, there is enough quality to be competitive. Really need one of the young guns (Smith, Fagerson, Wynne) to come through in a big way. Ashe has failed to do so so far.
Flynn was always a risky signing and one that did not pay off. Glasgow were not short of decent hookers (awaiting Jimbo's use of the quote function). If the money released from him is paying for Vunisa, it is a good exchange.

Calvisano.. knows the Pro 12, apparently scored 19 times in 48 appearances GOOD, left there for Saracens GOOD
Saracens... signed by one of the top sides in NH, GOOD, scored 6 times in 13 games, GOOD.

They are the level below Pro 12 - not exactly a great pedigree

He did go on to play for Zebre, where he certainly had a decent try scoring rate...but still, he certainly isn't at the same level (or anywhere close) as Strauss.

Sean Maitland signs a 3 year deal with Sarries - great bit of business for him.

Does anyone have a list of current Scotland players (those possible/likely to get a call up) and what clubs they are contracted to and for how long?

I wish it was a different job title - basically the role of an Admin is to be a moderator but also run the site and deal with the higher level issues. Administrator implies I do all the filing!

A thread full of factual information? What use would we have for that?!

get the founders to change it to "The Fuzz".
Or "miscellaneous duties manager"
or simply "Admin boy"
