We are a bit short on second rows at the moment, so it would be a good move from our perspective and he would hopefully get some game time. There always seems to be a decent rapport between Newcastle and the SRU for that sort of stuff, I wonder how the talks about investment in the Falcons are going?

Ah well that might expain it. A short term loan would be good for all three parties.... Falcons, Glasgow and Glen Youngs.

Sorry. Just seeing this now. Yes the ones I named were the only ones close to a Euro matchday 23.
Your team were well drilled and had a few nice backs moves. But that's given our 10 12 13 for most of the game were. A 12. A new boy and a fairly new boy. None of who had played together before.

GF you did not get the loan deal with Glasgow quite right, it is Davidson we are getting for 2 months, not Glen Young.
He is a local boy, so I am sure he will be happy to make a temporary return. He may well get a decent amount of game time as well.

Big gee...
Yeah I knew one of the lads was coming. Andrew is a cracking prospect. He'll do well for you...and gain some more experience.
Sgt
Yeah both back rows are top class in my opinion . We have some great options there....and don't forget Uzokwe, Guy Graham etc all looing to get some ganetime aswell.

I thought Mavinga looked pretty decent at the weekend, though Logo looked a tad unfit.
Obviously Scott Wilson having to retire was a real shame and stretched resources, but will we see Davey Wilson anytime soon?

I doubt it...perhaps a shadow.
Propping situation is a bit of a mess, as normal. Luckily Mavinga has really stepped up and Logo is anchoring the scrum well (although not adding much in terms of carrying).
The scrum has actually looked pretty decent so far, much better than previous seasons. Hopefully we'll get a fit and firing:
1. Logo
2. Cooper
3. Welsh
16. McGuigan 17. Mavinga/Lockwood 18. Wilson
I'm not sure on the Mitchell situation, could swear I read some Bath fans comments that he was finished and not good enough. This really should have been addressed in the close season, it was pretty obvious we were going to struggle at some point and the backup options don't fill me with confidence.

Im getting quite annoyed with the Davy Wilson situation...what an absolute waste of resources...barely made a 80 mins of rugby in the entire last season and not even featured at all yet!! I fully expect Davy Wilson to follow Scotty very soon. Id get shot of him now...and use the money to bring in another decent TH.
I do think Davison and Brocklebank are worth working on...but they're a work in progress.
LT Mavinga is a LH, and he was atrocious last season but seems to have started this season in a very different mode. The jury is still out for me and I will judge after more games.

Sorry GF, knew that Mavinga was a LH - but was not sure what other options you had there. I felt that before replacements started we had the better of the scrum, but the young (?) lads you brought on looked stronger than our replacements.

As I mentioned above...I think the young lads are worth working with..Brocklebank, Trevor Davison etc. They wont be world beating destructive props...BUT they could well be solid premiership scrummaging props that do loads of work around the field...
Mavinga could be a bright spark if he continues as he has this season and shows consistency.
Mavinga & Lockwood are a strong pair of LH's...(with Brocklebank coming through)
Mulipola & Welsh are a strong pair of TH's (Davy Wilson??)
Trevor Davison covers both, but I'd like to see him focus on LH.
Its developing...LT...on a limited budget

Aisde from that,...the scrum has actually been solid.
The issue has been a lack of defence which is what we built last seasons rise on...and a complete lack of attacking flare...

Aye Mikey , I can name a few like that. We have two of our own..one has just retired aged 24!
Well at least we got a win at last. Mcguigan continues to seriously impress me. Cant believe I actually questioned him coming back. He's at another level to the player who left us.
ALso Mavinga had another very strong game. Someone suggested we've actually got him fit (a problem with the French leagues by all accounts) which is why he's now coming good. Maybe that's it.

Half the Tigers side were from Coventry RFC. Given the player availability it wasn't a surprising result. Case of last man standing makes the team at the minute.

With the scratch sides that appear in this competition it's always a bit of an odd game. At least it's a high quality pitch up at Loughborough University so there's normally a lot of running rugby and reduced injuries.

Not a great few days for Tigers fans!
Not an awful Tigers side but perhaps shows a bit of the lack of depth they might possess these days. I never read too much into these A league games but good to see boys getting a run out.

Squad depth has taken a kicking because we haven't used our academy properly in prior years. We certainly aren't where we need to be. Having said injuries have crept up in us and suddenly were a little short. Take our 15 from last night.
15 Joe Lane (Coventry)
14 Sam Aspland-Robinson
13 Rob Povey (Coventry)
12 Matt Smith - struggling with niggling back injury
11 James Neal (Coventry)
10 Dan Lewis (Coventry)
9 Will Flynn (Coventry)
1 Campese Ma’afu - returning from injury
2 Jake Kerr
3 Facundo Gigena - actually a specialist loosehead
4 Fred Tuilagi - a number 8 normally
5 Cameron Jordan
6 Thom Smith
7 Taylor Gough
8 Valentino Mapapalangi - returning from injury
Nice to see Jordan, Smith and Gough plus Lavin who was on the bench get game time after they helped the academy to the success last season.

I think so LT, we've got quite a lot of injuries so the side almost picks itself. The Sale game aside, I don't think we've played that badly or got much more out of the games than what we would expect.
Losses to Wasps, Saracens, Tigers (perhaps would have fancied a LBP at least) is no great drama. It's just the table looks bad for us at the minute.

Great to see John Hardie has signed for you. If he can put his injury woes behind him you've got one hell of a player!

Huge Hardie fan, he'll be a great addition. Plenty of options for us moving forward.

Another Falcon declares for Scotland. Gary Graham finally making the correct choice. With his family background, hard to imagine it could ever have been anything else really.
Newcastle really are becoming our third team and without us giving them any money!
Any more we don't know about? I do believe that Johnny Williams is SQ, as well as Welsh and English. IC is a position that we are a bit light on.

Graham is an awesome player...England's loss is Scotland's gain. And John Hardie is class.
Grahams young brother is here Guy Graham. And supposed to be potentially an even better flanker.
Eddie Jones should be putitng Williams in the England squad to stop him going anywhere else. He's going to be a top player. ...in a position we have nothing....
