Summer Transfer Window 2017 Thread
First topic message reminder :
The rage from La Liga is exciting.
That money argument does show you why there's no need to worry about Bale not having suitors. If Everton can throw £48m at Siggy, Liverpool can offer upwards of £70m for Nany Keita then I can't see Man United being scared of throwing £90m at Bale.

West Brom have signed Oli Burke.
Could be a good signing that, similar to Bale in style.

I quite like Snodgrass, but like Dolph says, he's too slow and he was not a good replacement for Payet although obviously a signing made in a bit of a panic. He's a bit of an anachronism in football as he'd more suited to the late 90s to mid 2000s where "wide midfielders" such as David Beckham were in vogue rather than the fast paced wingers. Even the classic number 10, with low amount of movement but good technical ability ala Riquelme has had it's time leaving Snodgrass a little bit out of place.

Questioned at the time whether Snodgrass was good enough for anything more than standing out in a bad PL team

I think he needs to be in a team that has pace and a classic centre forward. We don't really have either if you consider Carroll is half dead

To be honest I have even less sympathy for Rafa in that regard. Spent an absolute mint getting out of the Championship, now wants to dump his entire squad for a new one.

Not much sympathy from me either, that's why I'm surprised at the protection Rafa gets from some of our fans. He's tactically too negative for me, and it's his fault we signed Hanley, Sels, Diame & Lazaar types on huge wages, and now struggling to shift them. Not surprised Ashley giving him limited money, especially missing out on last years TV deal.

Typical Rafa for me always looking for an excuse.
Suspect he gets the protection simply because Ashley is his opponent.

Oxlade to Chelsea noise has really gone up a level. They seem likely to bring in at least two of Drinkwater, Ox and Barkley. Could see Ox starting at wingback maybe, but the rest are good squad players. Probably guarantees all three will be England players though.

Seems like the likely thing to happen is Sakho to West Brom so that Jonny Evans can move to Manchester City. Think that's good in terms of quality, but in terms of professionalism that's a big drop.
I can't really understand Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, supposedly he wants to leave Arsenal so he can play centrally, but he's definitely going to be played at wing back at Chelsea, potentially for less money than Arsenal offered.

I get that Spurs have lost Kyle Walker, but I've been baffled by their recent transfer choices. Surely it's attacking wise that they need to get better depth not defensively?

Yes it is confirmed now. Monaco didnt lose time and signed Jovetic from Inter (ironically he was meant to go to Marseilles but probably changed his mind after seeing OM being destroyed 6-1 by Monaco tonight!). Various other youngish forwards are being linked to Monaco such as Slimani, Batshuayi, kasper dolberg (ajax), Celtic's dembele and alexis Sanchez etc...

Never understand why decent players sign for Liverpool as there are no real opportunities to win trophies. The likes of Salah, Firmiho and Mane wouldn't be in match day squad for any of the European heavyweights

If they wouldn't get into the matchday squads of the elite then who exactly would they join, you seem to have answered your own question.

It's not that crazy really..
Arsenal clearly don't want to sell and especially not to a rival and with fee's as they are atm, i'm really not that surprised tbh.

Liverpool are 1 player away (2 if coutinho goes) from a pretty good window.
If Van Djik and Lemar come in before the close AND coutinho stays it will be a very good window. (Very unlikely)

Sorry, not sure I buy that one. Not sure the squad is that much better than last year and digging their heels in over a player they don't desperately need has cost them the chance to reinvest those funds.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Thread
Surely if they signed a further 2 players without selling Coutinho it would indicate they didn't actually need those funds to reinvest though?(Which was the position I assumed we were in this summer).
Either way, if by some miracle we brought in Van Djik and Lemar I would be very pleased with this windows business.

Could have just sold him and reinvested on top of that no.
Certainly could have VVD in the door already.

In an ideal world yes. And like I've said before, if I believed they could reinvest all that cash by the end of the window I would be all for it. The money they have + Coutinho sale would be enough to buy 3/4 players to greatly improve the LFC squad. Just wary of a situation where we sell coutinho and don't bring in any replacement.
Really? didn't think Sterling would be that disposable.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Thread
Where would the money go?
Liverpool have shown repeatedly they had two major targets, Van Dijk and Keita. They have secured Keita, albeit for next year and Van Dijk they have been bidding but with no deal. Between the two, they've been bidding over £150 million. What would throwing another £150 million on top of that do? Not to mention, Liverpool then bid over £60 million Lemar, and according to most in the know, this was not related to Coutinho leaving (although I suspect it would be planning for next summer when he leaves). This is all without throwing another £150 million on top.
That's without mentioning the fact that suddenly becoming £150 million richer just a few days before the end of the window inevitably means prices are doubled for everyone.
The money in the Premier League has reached such heights that player sales don't even come into it for the big clubs. It's smaller than the money they get from other sources.
------------------------------------------------
I think Sterling + cash for Sanchez is a terrible deal for Manchester City. Sterling is younger, more versatile, and fulfils the home grown quota. Not to mention, City can wait a year and get Sanchez for free anyway.

Liverpool have bid €80 million + Divock Origi on loan for Thomas Lemar. Player is thought to be keen on the move.
Also everybody is reporting that Liverpool are going to bid £75 million for Virgil Van Dijk today, and as Liverpool were only going to bid again if they had some indication that Southampton were willing to do business, this could be a very exciting few days for the window.
Also, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has agreed a deal with Chelsea but is more keen to move to Liverpool and is waiting to see if they will bid. Liverpool are considering matching Chelsea's offer considering Ox's keenness to move, but imagine it will depend on the Lemar deal.

Salah was a cracking signing, no doubt about it. It's a win just getting him. Can being there still is also grand as he's their best midfielder and goes underrated a tad.
Keeper and centre back. Arguably a left back would have been good but Robertson will have to do now.

Apparently the wage he's agreed should the deal go ahead would make him the highest earner at Chelsea
Anybody buying in to this cash plus Sterling rumour for Sanchez......I know he's from London initially but why Sterling would even agree to moving to Arsenal I don't know so I'm not personally buying in to it until anything is officially bid
I think our dealings are done. Jose has as good as said he would like one more but won't spit his dummy out if he doesn't get them (apparently still trying for Perisic who according to Croatia manager is happy at Inter and is in talks to sign a new deal to keep him there). I would like a winger still if I'm honest and felt Persic could have been a perfect fit

Dick Law with the bantz just ask for irrational things . I can see why they did 3 days to go replace Alexis + Sergio would be 3rd choice forward at Citeh cos Pep had a hard on for Jesus & Alexis.
He may play Alexis out wide but seems an odd thing to do since plays up top nowadays. Why not just go buy a proper winger

He was poor last year, but the second half of 15/16 he was fantastic until Funes Mori decided to be a massive pillock. Think a decent run in the first team for Newcastle would be a big help. He's definitely an improvement over current options.
