Parker vs Fury - PPV
A "groundbreaking" deal has been agreed and this fight is being shown on YouTube for £9.99.
Ridiculous.
Thoughts?

this is a truly desperate move from Mick Hennessy. Innovative move means 'we wanted PPV on BN or Sky but they said no'.
Suprised it's not on BN as I think Warren is involved with Hughie somewhere along the line

Is Parker a name in New Zealand, that might be a part of it?

Lions has a point. The man has a country behind him, so even if 2 or 3 hundred thousand buy the fight? It will be seen as a success. I won't be paying for it.
It might turn out to be a decent fight, but it's not ppv worthy imo.

Boxnation have had a really poor showing recently
So they absolutely should have picked this one up
YouTube streaming in my experience is very poor

Hundreds of thousands of Kiwis, all switching on YouTube at 11am to watch the boxing? I can't see it myself.
Should be on Terrestrial or Sky Sports in UK. Both fighters are primarily trying to increase their profile and generate some hype, in the hope of landing a fight with AJ...

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
I see theyre trying to sell to more viewers by putting on a show at the weigh in. Boxing these days is just getting like pro wrestling.
Get two reasonable blokes who have trained and won a few together, cook up a fake media storm and both fighters spa for anywhere up to an hour and both camps walk away with tens of millions laughing saying, its your turn for the rematch.
Pretty obvious who the real mugs are in this sport.

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
So now we have a change in referee, from one Englishmen, to another, following the NZ managers tirade about the neutral referee clause in the contract.
So the 'compromise' is to appoint yet another English referee, just not the one who refereed Furys last two wins, yet the stood down Referee is instead appointed Judge!
Anyone see anything wrong with that picture?
First they embarrass him because hes effectively deemed biased, being in a position where he could indirectly influence the fight, or in a rare case directly, by deciding a knock out when it isnt one.
But his 'punishment'...is to put him in a position where he can directly influence the fight. And we now have an English judge AND referee...both appointed due to an accusation of bias...
What a circus...

It's a sham of a mockery taylorman. Welcome to boxing where money talks, words like honour and integrity are considered fiction not fact and a contract is just a joke between friends.
This one is just par for course though if it gets any worse it will be like the Irb appointing steve Walsh to referee an English rugby international. That would never happen!

Not a chance watching. £15?!?! For a WBO champ never fought anyone...against Fury's brother or cousin? Nope.

I'm listening on the radio. Sounds a poor fight. Hughie seems to be edging it. Parker sounds awful.

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
I am, though I stress not at a cost....anyone who has paid for it has been robbed. Basically Fury vs Klitchsko 2.0.....but with a more robotic Parker and an even less impressive Fury (although he does move very well i'll give him that).
Fury is actually making Canelo's performance last week look hugely offensive. Pitter patter jabs and the odd big shot every now and then. Warmed up a little last two rounds but effectively its Parker throwing huge lunging shots...Fury back pedalling and throwing a nothing punch on the counter.

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
As elusive as Fury has been...and as amateur as Parker has looked (he has missed so many shots)....I don't think you could possibly score this in favour of Fury if we take the whole 'have to go and take the title from the champion' ....the lad has barely done anything for 11 rounds in terms of offensively...2 good uppercuts and 2 right hands...that's it.
Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
Parker for me, but wouldn't be surprised if it goes to Fury.
Reminds me of the Froch-Dirrell fight.

Dreadful fight. Hughie blew his opportunity. Parker looked very ordinary yet Fury refused to engage. Just running around the ring. Tyson Fury would beaten Parker easily.

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
Why not?? I can see why it was scored that way tbh...Fury took first two...from 3 onwards he barely did anything...at least Joseph was pushing the fight and trying to actually throw shots.
Its great being on the defence and not being hit...but you have to throw shots in return; I'm all for the old 'dont be hit'...but the first &key part of the phrase is 'HIT &'

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
Turd fight, hard to call. 118-110 seems ridiculously wide to me though I must say.
Fury clearly the better all round boxer but he's not aggressive enough by a long shot. I like defensive boxing but you've got to connect with some decent counter punches, and besides one or two crisp uppercut furys tactic was basically make parker miss then throw a few light jabs. It's just not enough.
Annoying because parkers a weak champion and he's there for the taking. AJ should try and get that fight ASAP, easy 3dd belt of the big 4...

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
I thought the two judges got it right
Fury did nothing, absolutely nothing
Flicking a jab backing away, you just don't win a fight like that
I'm glad Parker didn't have his title stolen off him
I wanted Fury to win, but that performance was absolutely awful, that wasn't boxing, I don't know what that was
At least Parker tried to fight..

I'm Still frustrated about what I've just seen. Chance to become a heavyweight champion and basically just let it slip through your fingers.
Poor form from hughie fury there. I like the guy as well, comes across as a decent guy. Would have set some good UK match ups for us, not to be.
No sure where he goes from here, if he can't win the wbo off parker then he should be asking serious questions of himself

Hennesey does pull out the comedy...
"It was a masterclass. Beautiful boxing by Hughie and I can't see why these judges have robbed this poor young lad. It's disgusting. I'm going to lodge an appeal straight away.""

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
They basically tried to use the same game plan as Tyson v klitshcko in my option. The difference was parker was actually throwing more.
Annoying how the furys bang on about being fighting men, when actually in terms of boxing they don't actually be game for a fight at all. They like to try and be elusive and both off the back foot. Nothing wrong with that but you have to land counter punches which hughie didn't do often enough tonight.
Still not sure about the 118-110 scorecsrds though I must say. To be fair he made parker look average and he didn't get caught with a great deal.
I almost went got tickets for this, glad I didn't now!

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
I didn't watch the fight but 2 things I know from watching both previously: Hughie is a "safety first" fighter who won't take risks and doesn't have big power for a big guy. He seems happy to "coast". Parker appears to a relatively crude puncher who looks a bit clueless when his opponents don't fall over. 3 decisions in his last 3 fights does not point to big heavyweight power.
It is not a surprise to me that 2 of the judges favoured aggression and at least attempting to punch the opponent in the face rather that what sounded like a negative approach from Fury. You want the title? Got to go and get it.

To be fair to mick, when he says shades of ali, he's not specific about which ali he's referring to. Moeen ali? Chemical ali? Ali baba? Ali McGraw? All of which you could make a better case for than the boxer.

Re: Parker vs Fury - PPV
The camp of the guy who spent the whole time running around the ring is appealing the decision...now Ive seen it all. When they watch the replays at the appeal I hope he has to sit there and watch the judges laughing at the guy with the skirt running as fast as he can while slapping occasionally behind him.
