Japan again behind schedule for 2019
Some observers in Japan are concerned that local organisers are trusting too much in an attitude of "it'll be all right on the night".

The organizers of the next Rugby World Cup, Japan Rugby 2019, will not announce their candidates to host official training bases for the tournament as scheduled, organizing committee CEO Akira Shimazu indicated Tuesday.
Under the original schedule, organizers were supposed to announce the qualified candidates from 76 applicants this past summer, with the teams then choosing their training bases this autumn following inspections of the various candidates.
But the inability to find enough suitable candidates has led the organizers to scrap that plan. No public announcement will now be made until next spring, when the teams have already selected their training bases, Shimazu said at a board meeting in Tokyo.
Too many of the applicants to host training bases lacked sufficient accommodations and practice facilities or were too far from tournament venues, so additional training base candidates are now being sought. Tournament organizers are now seeking additional sites with the support of the Japan Rugby Football Union, Top League teams and host cities of the World Cup.
At the meeting, the organizing committee also announced that each of the 12 venues will hold two or more matches, a source close to the matter said.

It's the same stories every time there's a big event in a country. I bet the tournament will go smoothly just like all the others.

I'm sure it will go smoothly in the end but this is not normally the way international sporting events are organized in Japan. It is becoming evident that the JRFU promised more than it can deliver. They did much the same with the Sub Wolves franchise. As a consequence, they are burning through a lot of goodwill with World Rugby and other unions, which doesn't augur well for development of the sport in the region.LeinsterFan4life wrote: It's the same stories every time there's a big event in a country. Rich Freeman is the most experienced foreign journalists covering Japanese rugby. He was at the game today between Japan and Australia.

The match was held in Nissan Stadium aka International Stadium Yokohama. It has a capacity of 72,32, and there were 40,000 at this game. It's the venue for the final of Rugby World Cup 2019. and they ran out of beer just after kick-offf.
Read other twitter comments and it appears some kiosks around the stadium sold out of everything before half-time. One shop with stock still had a queue of over a hundred as the second half was about to start.
This is a venue which bans you from bringing in your own food and drink.
You might think "That's an easy thing to put right, good job they are learning the lesson now". Unfortunately, the same thing happened at the Bledisloe match which was held in Tokyo in 2009.
World Rugby are going to have to kick a few backsides to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Local fans doing their best to get behind #Japan but tough for those in cheap seats as they ran out of #beer 1 min into game.

Eden Park has a rival for the title of Worst Stadium to Host a World Cup Final.
Rugby's showpiece event will be staged in 2019 at a ground where binoculars are a compulsory addition to standard match-day attire.
The Yokohama International Stadium is an impressive enough building but it is singularly unsuited for rugby.
