I beg your pardon?
No doubt the mods will do nothing about that.

By the way, is Peter Hain now officially an anti-Semite? Let me know what the BBCs opinion is on that if anyone can.

Ah. That's it sorted then. Lord Hain thinks it's OK, so therefore it is. Lord Hain is, and always has been, a conceited individual and he's wrong on this one, for all he did a lot of good on Apartheid.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Lord Hain doesn't think I'm talking rubbish..
For too long powerful people are being accused of consistently vile behaviour and are able to hush it up with these injunctions.....

Meanwhile in world news, is anyone else alarmed by Bolsonaro winning the Brazil presidential election? He's like Trump on steroids, and some of his rhetoric about shooting left-wing activists is downright scary: https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2018/oct/28/brazil-election-2018-second-round-of-voting-closes-as-bolsonaro-eyes-the-presidency-live

'Normal' politics failed, so now enter someone who is a little out there.
Rinse and repeat across history, rinse and repeat across the geographical sphere. Better hope Trump succeeds in America, otherwise someone will come in who makes the Donald look like John Major.

Love your polls don't you. Should go and live in Gdansk.
Not sure we have a choice either way. Seems to me like we're in a plutocracy.
Nowadays, if i'm undecided at the polling station, to be on the safe side I vote for everybody. And also write an incredibly witty comment in a sort of diagonal fashion. Kinda makes me feel as if i've made a difference. Even though I haven't really. At all. There we are.

Re: Political round up.............
I actually thought this was one of the better budgets we've had recently, although admittedly the bar hasn't been set very high so that's not saying much. The online retailer tax proposals, whilst modest, are a step in the right direction, and money has been provided to curb the worst effects of Universal Credit. However, the measure to keep freezing fuel duty, whilst popular for drivers, is wrong, and unsustainable both financially and environmentally, and the continued freezing of benefits is unnecessary and cruel, and evidence that austerity is still going strong.
The 'extra funding' for schools will probably backfired though, and has probably generated more (justified) cynicism than if they'd not announced anything for schools - their announcement will do nothing to address the shortages in teachers and assistants caused by the cuts.
The income tax cuts at this time seemed an unusual move, leading some to speculate that the government are clearing the decks for an election - not convinced myself though. Was also interesting to see a lot of the New Labour critics lining up to attack McDonnell for not opposing all of the tax cuts. I think though that politically its a smart move and actually an example of where McDonnell and Corbyn have learnt how to be more smart on political strategy.

McDonnell was helped by a Tory mp resigning..But another example of Labour incompetence...McDonnell just isn't Chancellor material....Jumped on a chance to look Centrist and then abstained.
I see Lib Dems are letting go staff in the Party HQ..Because membership and donor fees are drying up.

Labour would be in government now if they had a half-decent leader, after the debacle that was May's campaign in 2017. But they don't and didn't, and they have no chance of toppling the Tories whilst Corbyn is at the helm. Absolutely none.
560,000 members? So what? How many of them actually get involved at branch level, canvassing, handing out leaflets...you know, actual campaigning?. It's just a middle-class orgy of champagne socialists and naive politics.

Blair is 'vomit' because a very noisy part of Labour say so almost as much as the Cons have blamed Labour for our current financial position.
He had his time, and is rightly long gone. But he was 3x PM for a reason
Labour are doing well in their strongholds, but both them and the Conservatives seem incapable of looking outside of their respective bubbles, leaving a lot of us effectively disenfranchised.

You were thinking I was being more cynical than I actually was. I was simply suggesting that there have been bigger cults than on containing ~560,000 members. I wouldn't suggest Momentum are reminiscent of Nazis or perhaps the Khmer, but some of their practices are pretty bad. I could see them as petty Stalinists, though very far from actually killing those internally who dissent.Pr4wn wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:Read it again...Pr4wn wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:Oh, I don't know. Wow, three whole bus loads. Stirring stuff. Labour also lost in plenty more places that they needed to win in order to get a majority government.
The state of Labour is quite shocking. Nearly nine years of Tory government, a highly unpopular one at that, and Labour still can't get a consistent lead in the polls. If a GE were held tomorrow, the Tories would win the most seats.
Yes, I know all about the Momentum takeover of the Labour Party, and have posted about it before. It's why there is soon going to be a Labour split. It's why Labour have zero chance of toppling the Tories.
Naive to think otherwise...

A change in subject on here, but couldn't believe the shocking statistics on mental health amongst young people, especially girls, in this article - A fifth of 17-19 year old girls in UK have either self-harmed or attempted suicide: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/nov/22/concern-over-rise-in-suicide-attempts-among-young-women
Figures like this would suggest a mental health crisis amongst a large proportion of our younger population. Its likely there's a mix of factors at play, but this is an issue that needs serious resources earmarked - otherwise we are storing future problems up for our society whose consequences will be even more costly if we fail to act.
