Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
Signing player's like Kris Boyd, Barry Robson and Scott MacDonald is this Mowbary guy for real? Where did they finish last season? Somewhere down near the bottom of the champ anyway, he should be sacked and they should bring back Alfonso Alves as manager. Discuss.

Sorry this should be in the champ section. Bottom half would be ideal, don't know how to move it.

Boyd, Robson and MacDonald weren't bought by Mowbray

Middlesborough in its self is a joke. Not worth putting me tips to the keys to typing a slagging off article.
Feel sorry for them actually.

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
No, they were signed by the previous manager Gordon Strachan who was sacked not long into the season after a run of poor results.
They've seriously declined over the past few years which is a shame as they have a pretty good fanbase!

Wow - this is desperate!!
Clearly incapable of any sort of rational debate these two, I won't rise to it though, although a ban for these two seems appropriate!

Much like I feel sorry for Liverpool after their manager spent 55m on two completely unproven players. Good luck next season!

Carroll was the second highest English scorer last season (ahead of Rooney) and was injured for part of it as well so does that really mean he is unproven?AberdeenSteve wrote:

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
It's more or less the fact that he had a half decent first half of the season last year and he was all of a sudden hailed as this next big thing. I will probably be made to eat my own words but I think 35m for a player that isn't all that well experienced in PL is a massive gamble.
You normally associate those sort of figures with a player that is signed and expected to make an instant impact and I don't think Carroll is of that standard.

Obviously 35 million was too much but transfers are usually inflated in January anyway and with Man City pushing them up even further Kenny had to pay that or end up losing out. He could turn out to be an expensive flop, only time will tellAberdeenSteve wrote:It's more or less the fact that he had a half decent first half of the season last year and he was all of a sudden hailed as this next big thing. Yeah, I have to agree with you there that January does definitely seem to up prices for players but for the money that they spent and the impact that he made it must be considered a flop for just now but like you said only time will tell and the season coming may end up being a fantastic one.

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
He was just trying to respond to another post made about Kenny Dalglish gaffer.
Hopefully some good debate can come out of this though.
I think Mowbary is a decent manager, he did well at Hibs and West Brom, I think the Celtic job was too big of a step up for him at the time and he's had his confidence knocked a bit. I think he could do well with Middlesbrough, they have a good squad, he just needs to get them playing some football.

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
I love the bloke! At the time I was disappointed when he left, after he preached about our players having to stay by the club then seemingly jumping ship at the first opportunity.
However,I think it was always accepted that we were a stepping stone for Mowbray to bigger things. Many fans felt that the SPL wasn't a big move, but whatever you say about the standard the Celtic and Rangers jobs are massive jobs with the guarantee of testing yourself in Europe. It's a shame it never worked out for him.
But I will forever appreciate what the bloke did for us at Albion. We couldn't defend under him,but he returned the beautiful, attacking football that Albion is famous for but had lost under the reigns of Robson and firstly Megson(Not discrediting Sir Gary though, also a legend).Middlesborough have the resoucres that he requires to build an attacking squad and I wouldn't be suprised to see them pushing for promotion!

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
The problem is Boro's 3 best players, McDonald, Robson and McManus are three Mowbray had a problem with and got rid of at Celtic, All three have/had a major problem with him forcing them out of Celtic, I cant see them willing to put their neck on the line for him

God i hate that prick Fortunè, the penny should have dropped when having spent most of the Summer chasing the donkey, the day he signs Mogga said "he's not a goalscorer", what a crock

Should have listened to you over on Niceboard Gaffer! I insisted he was good when we signed him back, but he's been absolutely diabolical. I bow to your superior knowledge, and apologise for telling you he was class when you first signed him.Great judge of a player I am
Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?

Its just different circumstances mate, we expect strikers to hit 20 or at least near it every year but this guy just managed to drag himself by half of that and hardley set anything up, I feel quite ashamed talking to you knowing we took £2.5m off you for him

For the price we paid for the Donkey (£3.8m) in 2009 we got Hooper (£1.8m) Kayal (£1.2m) Commons (£300k) Izaguirre (£600k) Ledley (Free) for just £100 grand more in 2010

Good business.Fortune was class for us first time around, but judging by how he did for you and then us 2nd time around it suggests he was playing out of his skin because he was on loan and wanted a move.
It seemed to me Mowbray made a few dodgy signings in his time at Celtic, which doesn't suprise me as he didn't have a lot of influence over transfers at the Albion was we use a sporting director who does all the scouting etc, then the manager would come to him and say I want a [insert position] and then the Sporting Director would say here's these players, which one.So he didn't do a lot of scouting or dealings with transfers.
Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
overall he was a disaster at celtic although foolishly i was happy at the time when he was appointed.he might do alright with middlesborough though the ex celts could hinder him if he doesnt get rid.

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
I think he might have just made the jump up too soon. He moved from quite a small club (no offence Mat) to one of the biggest football clubs in the UK, if not Europe. I think he was a bit out of his depth at Celtic and needed more time to build his managerial skills before he could make that jump.

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
Those stats make the signing of Fortune sound even worse than it already was.
I know this may be going a little off subject but those signing at those prices have highlighted that Lennon knows how to get good players at very good prices.
Mowbray was a disaster at Celtic, still remember reading that score line against St Mirren. I couldn't believe and it was then that I knew he was completely out of his depth.

Ban him!
Seriously,I do agree.I maintain that under Mowbray we would have walked the championship, which isn't really a big statement considering how far us and Newcastle were clear but I think we'd have finished above them and then consolidated in the Premiership as he learnt from his errors of going too cavalier in the Premiership.
Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
Mogga has done an amazing job at the Boro so far.
After the Strachan fiasco, freezing out anyone that had an ounce of flare, it was great seeing the team performing so well in the latter half of the season after Mogga recalled them!
He has signed all our best young talent up on long term contracts so.
Mogga came home.
Mogga :adore:

Please get your facts right.......
He had to sell some players so that he could build his own team at Celtic, and they were the three.
Also you should look at how those three performed after Mowbray arrived at Boro, with them three in the team we moved from 22nd to 11th in 3 months! and they all played a major part in that!

Re: Has Tony Mowbary lost it?
Celtic's best striker at the time by miles was Scott McDonald and Scott McManus was captain. If you are selling players to build your own team you don't sell your captain and your top scorer.
And it wasn't solely them three that got you from 22nd to 11th. I agree with gaffer and I have to say that I can't see them wanting to give 100% for a manager that royally shafted them at their previous club.

I suggest you watch them play, they have been fantastic since Mogga arrived.
Incidently, if you want to make an impact and you need to sell players, andthe only ones that anyone wants are those three, what do you do?
