Fury's Playing It Safe
It's no real surprise that Tyson Fury is not having a huge challenge in his first fight back. Sefer Seferi is a once-beaten Albanian fighter who mainly campaigns at cruiserweight. His single loss was on points against Manuel Charr. He's the perfect tune-up for Fury - he's not fought anyone else of note and probably isn't big enough to cause any damage to Tyson. Despite his likely ring rust, it's a fight to make him look good. If he loses, it's game over really.
I expect Fury to look rusty then put his opponent away in about 5 rounds.

No it's no surprise at all and assuming he gets rid of this guy which really should not be an issue I suspect opponent No. 2 won't with due respect be particularly dangerous either. I few rounds in the bank and a nice finish would be ideal.

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
Its a bit odd - he states he would smash Bellew into next week and hopes he never gets in the ring due to his size - says he is a cruiser and he would seriously hurt him and feels for his family.
Then 1 week later he signs to fight Sefer Seferi - who is a cruiserweight and 39? HAHAHAHAH
I appreciate he wants to come back in style, but this stinks of hypocrisy.
Hope he blasts him out and moves on to some good opposition - good to see him back

This article on BBC Sport about Fury's comeback from the perspective of his trainer is a really good read.

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
Fury 276lbs; Seferi 211. That's some weight difference
I know much has been made of Fury losing a lot of weight but that's still some serious timber he's carrying. 19 stone 10 is too big for a heavyweight, even one who's 6ft 8 or 9. I doubt Seferi will offer too much resistance though...

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
Tony Bellew was talking sense when he said he would fight Tyson Fury - but it would have to be very early in Fury's comeback - saying it would be suicidal to get in the ring with Tyson once Tyson had a few fights under his belt. Bellew was respectful to Fury, while Fury knew he had to play the bravado game. This fight proves that Bellew was talking sense and the Fury camp knew it. For Fury the important thing is to get someone who will give him the rounds, prove somewhat evasive, but won't threaten with a knockout or damaging punches. Or at least that is the theory.mobilemaster8 wrote:Its a bit odd - he states he would smash Bellew into next week and hopes he never gets in the ring due to his size - says he is a cruiser and he would seriously hurt him and feels for his family. ...

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
I don't know anything about Tyson's opponent Seferi but I would have thought that Tyson's camp could have picked someone who was closer to his size. I know that size isn't everything but it wont prove anything if Tyson has an easy win.A fighter like Povetkin would have been a truer test for him. I know confidence is a good thing but talking about taking Joshua and Wilder on the same day is taking it a bit too far even for Fury.

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
Dont bother....its like two pals just playing about. They just jad fight in crowd and Fury spent half the round watching that.
Taking the character thing to far...if hes serious about the comeback needs to stop the playing about and get focused. Should be using this fight as chance to shake off the rust etc instead of dicking about. Sham of a fight which makes Hayes fights on Dave look like barnstormers!

The biggest joke of a fight I have ever seen.

Finished in 4th Round...corner pulls him out. Absolute shocking matchmaking regardless of the whole 3 years out. Didnt put a dent in a very small cruiserweight and among the big hitters in division atm that may end up being telling no matter how sharp his skills.
Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
I was more trying to see the fight in the crowd than watch that sham.
If he really is serious, he will be absolutely mullered by a decent heavyweight.

It's amazing how low professional boxing can go. I'm trying to work out if this was a bigger joke than Flintoff's 'fight' all those years ago.

David Haye's fights on Dave were just as farcical. Frank Warren will put bums in front of him forever, knowing Frank Warren.
I fell asleep during the undercard. Glad I didn't miss much.

Surely it was always going to be a glorified training session.
Fury got 4 rounds, continues to get into shape and another fight within 2 months and this will be forgotten.

Better off in the gym....Training and sparring 12 rounds and getting weight off..
Absolutely no value in last night whatsoever...Just a distraction.
The next guy won't be a World beater...
Don't milk the fans they have stayed patient with the oaf as it is.

Hope Fury gets AJ next year and gets absolutely battered. Beat a gun shy Klitschko, dropped by a CW and lost to fat boy Mcdonnell or whatever his name was. The guy is a fraud and will get rendered unconscious if he ever gets in the ring with AJ.

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
Personally I am pleased he is back. Clearly he had serious issues including mental issues over the past few years. Even Tyson Fury's father says his son is unpredictable - whatever they train for in the gym - he ends up doing his own thing. Tyson is still in the process of losing weight, he needs to lose about another stone and a half. He is neither fight fit or fight sharp. He did what had to be done - as soon as Fury started to settle into the fight and find his range - it was clear that Seferi was unable to take the weight of Fury's punches - so decided to quit rather than get bludgeoned. Seferi started to get caught in the third and fourth rounds. It was hoped he would last longer.

Marketing job that's all last night was about
I think fury needs 2 o 3 fights before he talks about Beyonce or Joshua he looked garbage although I know he had had to prelong the fight

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
I reckon that I could have done a better job than Serefi. And I have never boxed in my life. I know that Fury was always going to use this as a stepping stone fight but from what I hear it was utterly ridiculous.
Here's an idea for Frank. Put him in with David Price. Pricey has no chin but Fury's not got huge power so it could be an interesting and competitive fight. However, Fury's ducked him before (presumably because he can bang a bit), and he's too near Fury size-wise so that will also be a no-no.
I say just throw him in with Wilder and have done with it. It would make for an amusing evening and would rid us of an overrated heavy regardless of the result.

Re: Fury's Playing It Safe
That was a damn farce. A nice gimme paycheck for Fury after his 2 years out. He looked flabby still. Needs to drop another 15-20 pounds and he will be ready for better opponents. Seferi was a disgrace. Did nothing. Tried to do nothing. The guys flinging punches in the crowd had an even chance against him on Saturday.
