SURREY VS KENT/MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON CUP
Mat Pillans has been added to Surrey’s squad of 14 for the Royal London One-Day Cup trip to Beckenham to face Kent, with all-rounder Sam Curran joining up with England.
Stuart Meaker will miss out for Surrey after suffering a fractured rib during training this week.
THE FULL SQUAD:
Rory Burns (captain)
Gareth Batty
Scott Borthwick
Rikki Clarke
Tom Curran
Jade Dernbach
Ben Foakes
Will Jacks
Morne Morkel
Mat Pillans
Ollie Pope
Jason Roy
Mark Stoneman
Freddie van den Bergh
Maybe Dernbach,Pillans and Freddie to miss out though Pillans might have a chance as 3 spinners on a small ground might be a risk!!!
Over to you chaps

Re: SURREY VS KENT/MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON CUP
Cheers, JimBob.
We really need the Corporal to get out of the officers' mess and give us a reliable weather forecast! Assuming we get a game tomorrow, it may not be 50 overs. Any reduction before the start is likely to affect the team selection - as Stewie said at the members' meeting on Tuesday.
Anyway, I'm very much with you on the three most likely to miss out with Pillans being the one of those to have the best chance of getting a game.

I think it likely that there will a full or near full day's play. #Corporalweatherforecasting

I guessed correctly that Dernbach would be in the side as I thought a batsman would miss out (alongside Freddie and Pillans). However, I'm surprised that it's Borthwick given the chop since he's been in reasonable form whereas Stoneman has been in terrible form.

The thought of 3 spinners on that small ground was too much for Burns

Kent 221/1 off 32.
400+ looking on here. Even with Beckenham being a small ground as JimBob has said, that's going to take some chasing!

Re: SURREY VS KENT/MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON CUP
Kent end up 384/8. Looked as if it would be more than that at some stages but it's still a mighty big total. Not impossible to get on this small ground but we are going to need to bat with sense and aggression, a tricky mix. We're also going to be dependent upon at least one or two substantial partnerships - a few early losses and things could get embarrassing.

Yeah. Following up on the Corporal's post - Stoneman wouldn't have been in my team but once he had been chosen on Tuesday before the rains came, I felt he was always going to play today. In 10 innings in all formats this season (Championship, Test, RL50), he's yet to make it to 30.
Meanwhile, Jacks went second ball. Saddo stat - Jacks has been out 3 times from the last 4 balls he's received. Tbf, that is slightly misleading as the first time there he was out, he had posted 120 odd. Nonetheless, he can't live on that ton for too long.

50 up for Roy. That's good but we're going to need a lot more than that from him to get 2 points here.

Re: SURREY VS KENT/MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON CUP
Modern thinking is that you should be able to double your score in the last 20 overs.
We're 159 after 29. Whack 25 or 30 off the 30th and we're almost there. What can go wrong?
Did I say we're 9 down?!

Re: SURREY VS KENT/MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON CUP
Big call to be made on Stoneman as we badly need the real Rocky to stand up when red ball cricket returns. Do they stick with him for the last two Royal London games and hope he bats his way back to form or try and work it out in the nets ?
Am feeling Clarke could do with a rest so Badger could come in for him if they don't feel twenty overs of spin would be too much of a risk.

So many possibilities for which way they go with the Surrey lineup today - almost conceivable that the Burger Van could get a game! Ok, I did say almost!!
My total guess is that Badger and Pillans come in for Jacks and Clarke.

No changes to the side. I'd have had Borthwick coming in for Dernbach or Clarke, with our flaky batting we need a proper batsman at 7.

Afternoon Jimbob! Disappointing that last 3 Middlesex wickets added 75 runs, but hopefully that may be a sign that any early life in the wicket has died back. Agreed about Tom Curran - let's hope he's running into really good patch of form.

106 needed off 23 with 7 wickets left. Foakes and Burns doing well. Our's to win or lose from here. Just hang onto a few of those wickets and it'll be 2 Surrey points.

Surely Middlesex have to get 10 wickets if they are to win this?

Keep calm, JimBob! We can probably afford to play Sowter out. Keep the wickets in hand and get the runs off the other bowlers.
PS I'm surprisingly calm!
PPS I had 3 pints at a family lunch which probably explains it!!

Re: SURREY VS KENT/MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON CUP
Sowter done. 0/33 off his 10, normally that would be the sort of return contributing to a win. However, Middlesex didn't have enough runs to play with and needed all 10 wickets before the 50 overs were bowled.
We're getting nearer. At least to a win today although qualification still seems mighty tricky and beyond my little brain!
