First topic message reminder :
Kwini, you have very high standards. I seem to remember you thought Lexi was a bit of a minger.

Liverpool big in the transfer market again, very decent sweeper/keeper. Think they will be right up there next season.

Isn't it about time the spectre of Fair Play was raised again?
With PSG blatantly flouting it, surely Livinthepasterpool are getting close to the line?

Liverpool made 112 on coutinhio spent 70 on vvd and 153 on 4 players. So net spend of 110m which isnt much now. Also picked up 145m from premier league and tv payments. They will be doing ok.

A replacement for Karius/Mignolet has been years overdue. The pricetag for Allison indicates a bit of desperation though.

Roma got mugged for Salah last year, they were never going to be dobe again. Anyway the alison deal seem fine compared to everton paying 50m for Richarlyson. Transfers are fu#king rudiculous.

Goalkeepers are a bit like a putter and driver disparity. I don't understand why they aren't valued more highly.
A goalkeeper is just as important as a striker is, perhaps more so as most teams have two strikers on a pitch.
You should be happy to spend as much on a good keeper as you are on a good striker, just as you should be happy to spend the same on a putter (if not more) than you would a driver.

It was one of the old italian transfers with him, thuram going for cash and a player thrown in. Its reported he was 34m. But over 500 appearances and 17 years. Thats bloody impressive.
Chelsea paid 7m for cech, united paid 19m for de gea, barca brought Valdes through the youth team. All steals. United could get 4x that amount now I'd say. Even Ederson at over 34m last year ended up being a great signing he transformed city.

Self made is a bit of a push. I would imagine she'd done virtually nothing and that hundreds of minions around her did the vast majority.

Who Is America?
Jeez, where do I begin? It's as scary as it is funny and more of an eye opener than I thought it would be. I still don't get how they don't know they are being set up such is the ludicrousness of the situations.
Also I appreciate that these people are the minority and that my own country has its fair share of loonies but it is minority that is growing on both sides of the pond.
But still, jeez....
All4 for UK viewers, Showtime for our US cousins.

It's quite simple. Much of America is incredibly insular and know nothing of the outside world. It's simply not shown on tv unless something major happens that they deem newsworthy or has an American edge to it, so it's easy to see how they'd fall for something we'd see as obviously a joke.
It's not that they are stupid, it's simply ignorance and a poor education system.
Cue GPB jumping up taking offence and acting defensively.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Lots of smoke and mirrors surrounding public sector pay increases today. Nice increase in theory for us teachers but not much for school leaders, the main area that is struggling to recruit. 1% of the 3.5 offered expected to have been budgeted in advance by schools already struggling to make ends meet and the other 2.5 to come from existing national schools budget. Love to see where they’ll find that, lots more TA’s and other support staff cuts I suspect.
Meanwhile Ive just been given 14k to do a masters in educational management, I’m not that bothered about doing it but may as well seem as how it’s free and if I don’t take the cash someone else will.

Interesting at golf today.Got a lecture pre round from our club president/organiser of our 12-16ish group about not taking more than 4 1/2 hours in a four.We were the last group of four lost a few minutes being let through by a group who were struggling 2 hrs 10 at half way.I tried to get us moving a bit teeing of first but we took another 2 10 on the back 4 oldish guys baking hot didn't hold anyone up all 18 plus handicap but had a good day very pleasant 4 20 .
Our man kicked off treating us like 10 year olds being naughty so I gave him both barrels back and that's the end of my Tuesday game I think. We were 10/15 minute over where I would like to be but no problem for anyone else.

Dyna, Golf pr1cks are the reason the game is in decline.
I've had my own issues lately, and it's all down to people getting involved in something which is none of their business.

Unfortunately Golf seems to attract the most belligerent pains in the arse of any sport/clubs out there. Some people are down right ignorant at the slightest opportunity, especially to juniors. Pretty sad.

It's the same in most sports BtB. There's always an element of bell-endery within virtually of them. Perhaps the most laid back I've seen is in Athletics. It seems much more inclusive.

Dyna - so...
"thou shalt not taketh more than 4 hrs 30 for thy round today"
The round took 4 hrs 20.
"thoust shall be smote for such a bad time, despite it actually being quicker than the time I told you you should not exceed"
I presume the group that let you through were hung, drawn and quartered?
The annoying belligerent little teenage knob in me thinks you should arrange a Tuesday 4 ball independent of that bell end and schedule it to go out just in front of his organised group of what will now be 8-12 golfers. And you should do your damndest to get round in 4.31.

Just noticed that the European Athletics Champs is now a multi sport event split between Berlin and Glasgow. This seems to make sense in terms of grouping smaller sports but not on an Olympic scale, not sure about the 2 city element but I guess it will help with finances for hosting. All on terrestrial tv as well.

About 2 months of solid sunshine here on the south coast. Weird to get up every day and to just expect that it will be a sunny day. I’m quite happy with mid 20’s temps, anything over that is a bit draining (unless I’m by a pool).

It is strange to look at the weather forecast for the next 10 days and see nothing but sunshine and +25 degrees every day. In fact, there's been no need to look at the forecast for ages.

A Tour win for Thomas, should really be one of the biggest sporting achievements in Welsh history. Unfortunately, all a bit tainted by Sky’s history and the contempt for Froome. Shame really.

When California's not ablaze . . . . . . . as most of it has been at some time or other during the past decade or so.
Interesting comment in today's NY Times Travel section:
"If you were to spend two days in Scotland, go to Edinburgh and stay there."
"If you were to live in Scotland for 6 months, live in Glasgow, absolutely!"

That's a stupid thing to say. Glasgow on the whole is a complete dump, and being on the west coast is constantly wet. It is also home to one of the worst accents in the UK.
Like everywhere, it has its nice bits, but I wouldn't want to live there again.

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Los Angeles - all great places to live. I have lived in all three and was born in one of them.
Anyone who thinks Glasgow isn't a great city hasn't been to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Sheffield or Leeds.
