Sam Curran remains unavailable due to his participation in the current Test between England and India at Edgbaston.

Surrey seemed to be making heavy weather of chase, with regular loss of wickets.  Then in a flash it was all over as Clarke and Maddinson dramatically upped the tempo.  Good to see a few other batsmen besides Roy and Finch getting runs.

I'm assuming the Essex total was at least 30 short of a competitive one, but I don't know whether that's fair.

That was actually a very fine all round performance by Rikki Clarke.
