Men's single prediction for Wimbeldon 2011
Who will win the Men's Single Wimbeldon 2011
I am rooting for Andy Murray.
Judy Murray should be able to announce- King is dead after the tournament.

This is a tough one, better to vote once the draw is confirmed next Thursday?

well the poll is open for 21 days so that should not be a problem. Why not Nadal on his current form?

I think Nadal is seriously in danger of having nothing left in the tank...he may now have the form/confidence but no energy left!

Re: Who will win the Men's Single Wimbeldon 2011
It's hard, wow, I'd say Nadal or Federer, but if they are respectively seeded #1 and #2 and seeds #3 and #4 are allocated randomly to either side of the draw then if Djokovic is drawn on Nadal's side of the draw, I think Djokovic has a shot of beating Nadal and I'm unsure how Murray would fair against Federer (probably lose, but not a cert) if it was the other way, I think Murray would lose to Nadal (probably, not sure) and the Feed/Djokovic game would be competitive but hard to predict (probably Fed)? That's on the basis that the top four seeds pull through to the semis. I have a feeling one of them might fall before then.

That would be a great final, it would probably go all the distance of 5 sets too! I won't get too excited yet; do you think Nadal would put away Djokovic easily if he got drawn on the same side and they met? I'd have thought that's a tough call, especially if Djokovic plays has he has done so far this season.

no disrespect for him,,but grass is djoko worst surface,,
losing his streak at most important point/part should drain his mental.
make thing worse,,he missed grass warmup tournament this week.
wherever he ll be in draw,,there is little chance of djokos presence in the final

Re: Who will win the Men's Single Wimbeldon 2011
I'm unsure, he made the semis last year and the quarters the year before, his record, agreed, is not as good as at the other majors but he has beaten Nadal 4 times this year, surely the psyche aspect may play on Nadal (if they meet)?
The funny thing is that Nadal's defeat got worse and he was losing on clay and in straight sets by the last final (they met). I agree that a best of 5 sets is a different prospect but Djokovic does have the edge mentally at the moment (provided he holds it together and they are drawn on the same side).

Djokovic has never beaten Nadal in a Slam or on grass,
Nadal would power passed him.

I see what you mean sonic boom but I'm referring to Djokovic's recent record not last year's record, from what I can see, they met at Wimbledon last in 2007, Djokovic is not the same player now as he was then (he hadn't even won a slam back then).
Just out of curiosity, what is the Nadal/Djokovic record on grass? If they haven't met each other much on grass, I'd have thought it's irrelevant if he's never beaten him on grass, they haven't met very often!
This might all not matter in any case, Djokovic might not be drawn on Nadal's side but if he is and they meet, I have a feeling the match would be highly competitive. Just to add, you can't deny that losing 4 times (all in finals) will not have an affect on Nadal? Surely it would?

Thanks for digging that out ebar86. The info is a bit old, all of that is from 3 years ago, Djokovic is not the same player.
If they're drawn on the same side of the draw, I reckon Djokovic has the potential for an upset, but a lot of ifs for the moment!

I think its is pretty close between each of the top four. But i picked Fed because I feel like he is the best server of the group, the most natural grass court player and looks like he is in great form. Novak can do it, I think his game translates well to grass especially since he has worked out his serving problems and improved his volleys.

Great points, but Nadal is his kyptonite. Roger just never looks confident whenever he is playing Rafa and seems to be unsure of which tactics to employ to beat him. Maybe Anacone can help with that. I am not sure I am ready for Rafa beating my favourite player on his (Roger's) hallowed green turf again. 2008 was painful enough for me.

I think Wimbly this year will be Wobbly for many top players.
Fatigue, recent losses, suspect court speeds and "Old Age" might well bring about a surprise winner this year. Maybe not even a top four player, but I am pretty sure Murray will eke out a final spot this time.
None of the top 5 have a legitimate hold on the Green crown this year after the marathon that was the FO 2011. IMHO of course.
In fact, Roddick may have his best chance this time.

I think Rafa was as physically spent this season as last, its just this year he's had more to deal with as far as his confidence and mental fatigue may go.
Glad he went home tonight. A weekend off and then normal preparation next week should give him a real good shot at the title. Winning the French Open has been a tremendous boost I think.

I don't think that too much can be read into this loss. Team Rafa has done this before as well, giving a false sense of security to others and then upping the game when it matters most.

Agree wooffie and that's exactly what I meant - mentally spent (as well as bodily). The break should do him well. But I dont agree its done to give others a false sense of security, Rafa was just tired, wants a break and didnt kill himself for the win today.
But it is ridiculous that the only significant pre-Wimb grass events are exactly the week after FO...

Nole and Fed's withdrawal now seems to be so much more sensible and reasonable.
This should be very clear to ATP CEO Helfant. For the sake of players and the game of Tennis, this commercial machine needs to stop. The season needs to be cut to 10 months or less with breaks between tournaments otherwise this will result in serious long-term damage to the sport and players.
I expect Tenez to start WUMming re Rafa somewhere on this board.

Re: Who will win the Men's Single Wimbeldon 2011
Laverfan, I want the tour to be long from strictly tennis junky point of view. Most player play about 24-27 weeks a year in tournaments not including Davis cup. That isn't too rigorous of a schedule although the travel across the globe and off court commitments do make it much harder. The top guys have to pace themselves, Roger is a very good example of this and Novak seems to be following suit that you just can't play every week.

You certainly know how to wind me up. I don;t want to say but again, you are wrong thinking that a shorter season will be less damaging for the sport.
I'll just give one example. The cycling season! very short indeed!

Lets look at it this way as well, Footballers play 50 and 60 matches a year with people kicking, headbutting, and leg whipping them constantly. Tennis players on average play between 60-80 matches year (for the top 20 guys) and nobody even touches them. All modern sports take a physical toll, tennis among the least of the modern sports.

I agree eirebilly. If I were a betting man my money would be on Roger Federer. Looked very good at Roland Garros on clay and took the shrewd move of having a rest this week whilst Rafa has looked jaded at Queen's Club. However, the draw will be crucial.

Re: Who will win the Men's Single Wimbeldon 2011
This could be Roger's swan song at the grandslam. I think this grandslam provides him the best shot he is ever going to have at number 17. I think he knows that he won't get too many more shots at the big title and that wimby is always going to represent his best chance and he will show up strong. I think if Novak can get past the first couple of matches and adjust to the grass then he will be a big threat. Like I said, contrary to Jubba i would be stunned if anybody but the big 4 takes the title. Possible darkhorse maybe Raonic. Serves as big as anyone and has real nice feel at net.
