Same game one of the Munster props is pulled up for a swinging arm tackle that connects around the neck, penalty. Next game Vs Gloucester a near identical tackle is a yellow card.
Cipriani walks for contact with the head with a shoulder but similar tackle outcome sees Stander avoid a red.
Twelvetrees catches Carberry as he ducks, force and direct contact with the head. No red card. Will Spencer of Tigers got a straight red and banned when a player dropped suddenly in front of his attempted tackle.
No one minds World Rugby tightening these laws up but they are so inconsistently applied it is becoming a farce.
I have seen a clip of a Munster shoulder to 36's face in a tackle from that game.

Re: European cup matches with no thread - Round 2
There were at least 4 high tackles in that game that, based on what we are being told, merited a Red Card. With varying levels of irony:
The one Cipriani got his marching orders for was perhaps the softest and least dangerous of the four.
However he committed one of the other three so should have been off anyway.
36 was both perpetrator (on Carberry) and later recipient (from Stander).
In the end Glaws played with a man down on Munster, which would have been a fair outcome.
Now the commentators and pundits are playing up to the masses on this and screaming about the inconsistencies, which perhaps undermines the original message that tackle heights have to get lower. Yet it is hard to be too critical when the whole thing currently looks like a dogs dinner.

Irish and French teams are getting away with murder in these games, why are they be refereed differently to the English clubs?

Well I guess he may be referring to Kaino not being sent off, but later banned.
Pointless moaning about that though as they lost the game due to Burn's showboating, while Castre showed against Exeter that playing one man down is not an automatic loss.

Neither did I Martin. It's on this thread, and was mentioned by another poster.
But if you want to believe I did, I'm ok with that. You can even picture me getting no sleep during those 3 days too if you like. Endlessly searching on my laptop for an image, and celebrating when I found it!
Either way the bottom line is, you were proved wrong. Again.

You said there was a link, now it was mentioned?
Which is it?
After all you do think the neck is the head

It was me Marty - sorry to have caused all this fuss, my original intent was to talk about the issue of the inconsistency in officiating which is causing so much frustration.

It's no bother Heaf, my original comment was that from what I'd seen there was no contact with the head but was still a penalty. Others just seem intent on proving me wrong more than anything
That picture does seem to suggest it was the neck not the head.
The inconsistencies are just another area refs are struggling with, were Twelvetrees and Stander even cited? Hard to believe a citing officer could miss those incidents when they are replayed repeatedly

I agree it is hard to believe they weren't cited and this just adds to the frustration about inconsistency - makes you wonder if they've not cited them as they don't want to add fuel to the fire about inconsistencies in match officiating, but instead have just made the whole issue even worse.

Maybe the citing officer is in the games gone soft brigade, given a red would be automatically referred he wouldn't have a say in that

I meant maybe some of the citing officers are thinking to themselves if I cite all these players it's going to make the match officials look bad ...

Re: European cup matches with no thread - Round 2
Possibly but that's not their job, they're there because the refs and TMOs can't see everything so you'd like to think they understand that side of it

Indeed - but given what we've seen go un-cited compared to reds given it makes you wonder.
