Yes, or Gove or Clegg. Plenty of examples.

Disagree about Gove. I really dislike and distrust him - he's got dodgy connections to Murdoch empire and US lobbyists, and did immense damage as Education Secretary (corruption galore in Academies and Free Schools, laid the foundations for the appalling budgetary pressures schools are now faced with).
However, he was a competent Justice Secretary and has been effective Environment Secretary so is actually capable. There's a lot wrong with Gove but he is a genuine heavyweight politician - probably one of the few genuine big-hitters the Cabinet has.

I do swear too much, but I don't automatically label people I don't agree with using swear words. It is actually OK, even important not to agree on everything.
However it is hard to disagree that, for instance, Boris Johnson is a c**t with very few if any redeeming features. That such a lazy lying so and so with such a poor record in every role he has filled can get any where near being our PM is scary.

Yeah he has some degree of competence to balance out the fact that he's a nasty piece of work. 'In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king' so Gove does stand out in that company.

Re: Political round up.............
Bit in bold. That is not analysis - that is just stereotyping. To critique someone you need to have access to a great deal more information - not just political hearsay etc. And speaking generally - just because someone may have some personality features that you don't like - it doesn't mean that they are not good at their job - or the best person for the job given the candidates. It seems to me that some people want their politicians to be "pretend saints" rather than "real people".lostinwales wrote:No name Bertie wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:He's right though. No name Bertie wrote:Really - did you learn your politics watching American movies?lostinwales wrote:No name Bertie wrote:I guess the feeling amongst Conservatives is that if Boris Johnson can't deliver Brexit under the circumstances then nobody can. Has anyone here tried there hand at politics - in trying to get elected for public office? It seems to me to survive in politics you have to have a thick skin.

I think you're onto a loser there, Bertie. But good man for trying.
People like their comfy caricature comic heros and villains. The Gaming generation and Superhero movie fans have become adults and they now want reality to mimic their fantasy sandbox worlds.
"Gove, I AM your Father!", rasps evil Lord Boris and the politico fans love it!
Boooo!!!!! "Just slice him with the light sabre, Gove! Just don't stand there!!!"

Waste of time C4 debate....Presenter was awful. When Hunt says he is going to pay for things by growing the Economy,...You might want to ask him how he is going to grow it....Perhaps ask why despite being in Govt for nine years they are only interested in investing in public services now..
Just a beauty contest where the opposition leader is used as a football..
Stewart won...Gove lost.

Every debate in regard to Tory leadership is a waste of time for the most part. Its only a percentage or a percentage who get to decide who the next Prime Minister is anyway.
And people say the EU is undemocratic.

Rory Stewart's got the nudge from the established media and Lord knows who else, and he's starting to get in position to be in the final two.
All they need now is a nice Boris scandal which sees the favourite knocked out of the race.

I saw the "last 6" mugshots together on the news screen yesterday. Rory Stewart's looked like a poor caricature of Alfred E. Neuman.

She was firmly anti-EU post-premiership.
“That such an unnecessary and irrational project as building a European superstate was ever embarked upon will seem in future years to be perhaps the greatest folly of the modern era. And that Britain, with her traditional strengths and global destiny, should ever have been part of it will appear a political error of historic magnitude.”

Hmm, 'Britain with her traditional strengths'? She had all but killed them off with privatisations and seeing that Britain no longer made their own cars, produced their own coal, their own steel, their own electrical equipment. A bit rich coming from you Maggie.

Re: Political round up.............
Hell, I'm now thinking that maybe Thatcher was one step ahead of her critics - as the World Peace President of Global Fusion, Obama, mocked openly the coal producers of his own Nation, telling them that they could scream as loud as they wanted, their industry was going down.
So, I take it back. I think Thatcher would be the champion now of the Carbon Footprint apostles -
Yes to the end of Private cars on the roads!
Yes to the end of evil fossil fuels!
Yes to the end of high carbon producing dinosaur industries like Steel Production.
Christ, Thatcher would be a British Goddess for Climate Change Cultists.

Johnson 77%
Hunt........56%
Gove........50%
Stewart....31%
Left out Raab and Javed who are soon to be leaving the race..

Re: Political round up.............
Johnson - Leaver (allegedly)
Hunt - Leaver? (allegedly) Fence sitter?
Gove - Leaver (allegedly)
Stewart - Remainer
Now if it becomes a two horse race, and the champion Leaver takes on the Remainer underdog. If then the Remainer underdog wins with excuses from the Party propaganda machine of trying to hold the party together by choosing yet another Remainer to negotiate for the majority Leavers.....
...if that happens (and it's building up to be not an unreasonable prospect) maybe then two or three more people will realise there has been a set up and that many of the Leaver Tories were never what they claimed to be from day one.
All eyes are on this one.

It really isn't. This 'party propaganda machine' has had 'will of the people' on repeat since 2016.

My very point. All the better to keep Remain prospects alive. So not everybody is as angry about Tory fuddle as they pretend to be in public. Tory procrastination is keeping Remain on the table.

Jeremy Hunt said he agrees 150% with the sentiment of the Trump attack on Sadiq Khan. Nice bloke.

Well you can't possibly defend a Labour politician when you're standing for leader of the Conservatives.

What the hell are you talking about, Luckless? Perverse?
Opinions you don't share?
You believe what you want to believe and I'll believe otherwise, like Tory delay tactics being as likely a Remain tactic as it was apparently just bad management of negotiations.
You can read what you want and ignore the rest.

A party that's droned on about Brexit meaning Brexit since 2016 is secretly remain? Sure it is, Fly. Sure it is.

Of course the Tory Party is pro-EU. The great charade is they pretend to be anti-EU.

You're in charge of your own emotions. But I'm in charge of my opinions.
A party that chooses a Remainer to negotiate Brexit is serious about Brexit?
A party that drones on since 2016 about 'Brexit meaning Brexit' is serious about Brexit?
A party that constantly brings back the same 'Deal' from Europe, one they know won't pass Westminster approval, is serious about Brexit?
A party that is warned by pro-Remain factions that the demographics of voters will change in a few short years and produce a Remain majority, yet still drones on, and delays and offers Deals it knows won't see Brexit approved. Such a party is serious about Brexit?
Maybe it is deathly serious about Brexit but logic would waver in giving a verdict.
Still, as I say, Remainers should be happy that the Tories drone on and on. The longer the droning goes on, the longer Remain clings on as an option. Be happy, Luckless. There's still a chance.

It's worth remembering that not a single candidate for leader of the party is arguing we should remain a member of the EU.

Yes they are all 'Jeremy's'. To be fair they are only trying to appeal to their electorate, which is not exactly the most representative of the population as a whole. However stupid the debate probably was (I didn't watch it) it is crazy that the floppy blond haired idiot not attending has no impact on his campaign whatsoever.

This Tory leadership race is quite exciting, in a moving-the-deckchairs-on-the-Titanic kind of way.
