Edinburgh and Glasgow – Continuing patter version 22 (it used to be a squad size)
First topic message reminder :
With the woes and injuries in the international camp just depressing us, lets look back to the club game.
Possible areas of discussion:
Edinburgh continue to hold the 1872 trophy
Edinburgh are getting a new ground
Edinburgh have a home Euro Champs cup game to look forward to
Edinburgh have a league fixture against the perpetual point givers, Glasgow, to look forward to
BigGee’s proposed Scotland XV for England has 8 Edinburgh players, 4 exiles and 3 Glasgow players so even the International team is starting to look representative of where rugby in Scotland truly exists.
It’s not all bad for Glasgow though as they sit above Munster in the Pro 14 and have Stafford McDowell on their books
Edinburgh have Hamish Watson though

Probably worth mentioning that Marfo can’t get a game for boroughmuir either, I’m not sure how far Cockers influence extends but I doubt he’d care if Marfo plays for them. I suspect this holding a grudge chat is just an excuse.
In terms of moving him to Glasgow (or elsewhere) if he's not good enough to play for an amateur team then I doubt anyone else would want him.

I'm looking at flights just now for the Bordeaux game. Prices are pretty reasonable at the moment.

Re: Edinburgh and Glasgow – Continuing patter version 22 (it used to be a squad size)
Matt Scott interview acknowledging that he came back from injury at the end of the season far too bulky having spent all his time in the gym, and it affected his ability to perform. He got up to 110kg which is bigger than a lot of backrows! He says he's down to 104kg now which he classes as his optimal weight.
Hopefully he gets a good run of fitness - at 28 he should have a good few years left in him.

Summer signings Murray Douglas and Nick Haining both start as Edinburgh take on London Scottish in the Principal & Prosper pre-season friendly at BT Murrayfield this Saturday (31 August, kick-off 2pm).
The forward pairing are named in a 30-man squad for the encounter which sees Edinburgh return to action for the first time since April.
The match is the very first opportunity for fans to see the Edinburgh 2019/20 Macron playing kit in action with tickets for the fixture available here as well as the gate on the day.
Head Coach Richard Cockerill said: “The boys are chomping at the bit to finally play some rugby. We're really looking forward to getting back out on the pitch in front of our home support at BT Murrayfield.
“The squad have been working extremely hard on the training paddock throughout the summer, but it’s now time to start building that match fitness which only comes with getting game time.
“We have picked a strong side to start this weekend, however this match really gives us an opportunity to evaluate all positions. Plenty of players named on the bench will be looking to put their hand up for selection in the coming weeks.”
An experienced back-three sees Scotland international Damien Hoyland start at fullback with wingers Dougie Fife and Jamie Farndale selected on the flanks.
Inside centre Chris Dean is named as captain and is partnered in midfield by 22-times capped internationalist, Mark Bennett.
Experienced half-back pairing Henry Pyrgos and Jaco van der Walt complete the backline.
Dave Cherry gets the nod at hooker and packs down alongside loosehead, Rory Sutherland, and Italian international tighthead, Pietro Ceccarelli.
Fraser McKenzie starts at lock alongside Douglas, who once again represents the capital after making his debut for the club against Cardiff Blues in 2012.
Summer signing Haining starts at No.8 with flankers Luke Crosbie and Ally Miller forming the remainder of the back-row.
Ewan Ashman – who this month joined the club on loan from Sale Sharks – is named among the replacements alongside fellow summer signing, Nic Groom.

Yep, I was rubbing it on my chest hairs but it just stained my good Club Tropicana T-shirt, something awful.

Did anyone go to the Edinburgh game yesterday? Comfortable win against London Scottish.
Rumours are we were looking a lot more attack minded and we're actually using the backs!

I just love that we've got a player called Dave Cherry, whose name suggests he's a Partridge-esque Butlins redcoat cheerleader.

Glasgow getting in another early season signing to go alongside Stafford McDowell last week.
Big Oli Keeble adds another 2 years to his existing 3 year deal, which is a decent bit of business. He will be SQ at the end of next season as well and it can't be said that he has not put a good stint in at the Scottish club coalface should he end up getting capped.

Good signing.
In other news Glasgow continue with their minging strips based on the recent kit launch - they couldn't have found a sponsors logo that clashed more if they tried!

Edinburgh highlights. Some really nice tries there although the opposition wasn't great.
I've got to say Bennett and particularly Matt Scott are looking lean and sharp.

Edinburgh sign another short term back rower - Ruan Steenkamp from the Bulls. Played 10 SR games this season so decent perigee.
Cockers is really spending on the squad during the world cup - the money men will be expecting a return!

The lad that runs the Top of the moon account on twitter/internet, has posted that Glasgow have 50 full time pros (plus 1 player on a partnership contract) and Edinburgh have 43 full time pros, 2 partnership contracts and 2 short term contracts covering the WC.
Still space for a few more Edinburgh signings.

Half-time at the Kingspan and Glasgow leading 19-17
Highlights: tries for Grigg, Tagive and Matt Smith. Jamie Dobbie comes on looking about 12 years old and then puts in a monster, monster tackle on his opposite number who had taken a quick tap penalty and thought he had an unopposed stroll to the line. Tom Gordon still has a mullet. Adam Nicol is almost as big as Ollie Kebble and he's still got years of growing to come.

Second half
Glasgow failed to score ANY points. Ulster ran in four or five tries.
Nick Frisbee... why?
Fusaro got himself yellow carded.
Bit of a horrorshow second 40.

Re: Edinburgh and Glasgow – Continuing patter version 22 (it used to be a squad size)
Edinburgh rugby wrote:Edinburgh Rugby can confirm that The City of Edinburgh Council has now granted a Building Warrant to enable the club to begin construction on a purpose-built 7,800 capacity stadium on the back pitches of BT Murrayfield.
Edinburgh has worked closely with both Scottish Rugby and The City of Edinburgh Council over recent months on the detail of the plans. This outcome allows construction on the stadium to start in Autumn this year, with a view to it being ready for the club play in its new home from the beginning of the 2020/21 season.
Until then, the club will continue to play home fixtures on the main international pitch at BT Murrayfield for the entirety of the 2019/20 season whilst the stadium is constructed.
This is underpinned by the coming season’s Season Ticket Membership sales having already reached record levels, as supporters continue to back Richard Cockerill and his squad ahead of the new campaign in growing numbers.
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, Douglas Struth, said: “While this has clearly been a difficult process and more drawn-out than we had envisaged, we are delighted to have now been granted a Building Warrant by The City of Edinburgh Council.
“This now allows us to move forward with what is clearly a pivotal and game-changing project for the club.
“I’d like to thank all those who continue to work proactively within the project as we now move into a build-phase, as well as The City of Edinburgh Council for concluding the Building Warrant process with us.
"I’d also like to thank the club’s supporters for their continued patience throughout this period and for buying Season Ticket Memberships in such numbers.
“With Season Ticket Memberships having already hit a record high ahead of the 2019/20 season, coupled with today’s hugely positive news regarding the stadium, I believe this is a really exciting time to be an Edinburgh Rugby supporter and I would urge our fans to get behind the team over the coming season as we prepare to move into our new home.”

That is good news. If this had fallen through it would have heralded a bleak future at Murrayfield with seemingly no way out.
i call bulls!t on the record ST numbers though!

Edinburgh home strip is fantastic and looks like a bunch of metrosexual Italian fashionistas took a long weekend at Lake Como with a crate of barollo to make sure that all of the details were appropriate and tasteful.
Glasgow's home strip looks like a standard grade arts project where the kid lost interest half way through in order to crack one off in his bedroom and then had to hand in the idea he had for the training shirt.
