They have more points in total.. the result of conference A being slightly stronger this year.

It’s a huge advantage given the prize on offer.... should surely be a two leg affair

Re: Pro14 Round 21 live thread
It's a bit more complex but if Leinster win and the winner of the Challenge Cup has qualified for the ECC, and something like everyone else qualifies for the ECC in France/England who was a semi-finalist, an 8th place is available to the loser of the Pro14 play-off.
Tbh I've got something wrong there but it would take a monumental slip up/the stars aligning for it to happen.

They could easily have decided that the team with the most points get the place and not have a playoff at all.. I think it's good middle ground, Ospreys have been slightly more consistent and get rewarded with a home leg.

I remember they had a playoff between 7th Pro 12 and 7th Premiership sides.. always on English soil! That was unfair.

IF...if if if if if Edinburgh lose to Glasgow, as is looking likely, I actually think it's the best outcome for Wales/the regions/the Scarlets.
Today showed that the regions are all useless in their own, idiosyncratic ways. For the Scarlets, they're incapable of managing games - it's a damning indictment of Pivac's era as it comes to a close. They have the best players, and most Welsh players, so it's a good thing they'll be avoiding the formality of getting thumped in the QF or, if they scraped through that, the SF where there's the distinct possiblity of picking up several key injuries.
That's because there's a RWC coming. The Blues players can now switch off and look solely towards that. After one more game, the Scarlets and Ospreys are likely to do the same.
I'd rather the Scarlets played the Ospreys at the Liberty than the Blues at the Arms Park. Horrible pitch, they're a better 'team' than the Ospreys, even if they don't have as good players. The local element. More confident the Scarlets can beat the Ospreys, qualify for Europe, and then steam ahead to the RWC than if they had to face the Blues (or God forbid have to make the play-offs, where they might end up winning two games, losing players to injuries, and still end up with no title at the end of it.
Positive spin? Most definitey. The chances are Ospreys will probably will the play-off. But you take what you can get.
