50 for Root in 54 balls, with only 2 boundaries. Shows the value of being quick between the wickets and looking to maximise run opportunities

Strangely no. He played in an ugly way (yes with some pretty shots) before finally coming unstuck when playing ball onto helmet before getting caught.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 2
You feel Root is going to be right up there with the tournament top run scorers. Just a relentless accumulation. Shakib is on 384, Finch is 343 and Root is 330* (on 51*) in his 5th innings. Sharma is just behind on 319 from 3 innings (although he's missed 1 chance to bat because of the washout).
It gives Morgan the freedom to hit out from the start, with Buttler and Stokes to come out after him and give it more of the same.

Root now looking injured. England running low on fully-fit players.

Had actually flapped at a couple in the build up as well as some nice scoring shots. The dismissal itself was similar to the near misses he'd already had playing attacking shots badly. So not nibbling at one outside the off stump at least.

In the course of this innings he has gone past Graham Gooch in the list of England's leading run scorers in all international formats. Not too far behind Ian Bell and should catch him in the next game or two. Then just KP and SAC to go.

Yep. With Root on 53*
Cook - 15737
KP - 13779
Bell - 13331
Root - 13210
Gooch - 13190
So another 121 for Bell which at the rate Root is going will be before the end of the pool stage. 569 to catch up with KP, so hopefully at some point this summer as well. Cook's record is probably safe for a year or two though.

I think that simple dropped catch of Morgan has killed any spirit to resist and fight ....16 extra runs and Morgan still there

Drinks break with 14 to go and England 217-2. Morgan just took the last over for 18.
Realistic target? 8 an over gets us to 335, 10 to 357. A ballistic Morgan and Buttler could still get us near 400

Think England should still be looking for 370-380. That's just under 12 an over from here. Plenty of wickets and big hitters in hand to achieve it.

Morgan's injury problems do not seem to have hampered him today
Not that he's had to run many. Only two down and pushing 250... Last ten could get ugly for the Afghans..

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 2
Morgan has just overtaken Root. Not sure what Root was on when he came out, but it's been some knock. 67 off 43, 3x 4s, 6x 6s.
255-2 with 10 to go. 370/380 is definitely on.

That squeeze by Afghanistan in 25-30 also bought the wicket of Bairstow, but other than that it's been a very solid batting performance by England so far. Nothing extraordinary, but solid.

Reaches a 57 ball hundred ...with another six , of course

He's got to come back again unless Rahmat or someone else takes an over off him. 0-75 off 7. Steep learning curve.
Some hitting by Morgan.
Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 2
Ton up for Morgan with 3 sixes in the over. 101 in 57 balls. Imagine how he'd be hitting it without a bad back . Partnership is 135, and Root is mainly just taking a single every time he faces.

Root moves to 82 with his first 6 of the innings and then up to 83.
106 would put him ahead of Shakib for the tournament. He'll need to accelerate to get there, because he's not going to get another 20 deliveries here.

Of course, the unhappiest person is Jos Buttler, who would have loved a chance to bat against this opposition on this track!
Morgan still slogging away. 15 an over off the last four gets England to the magical 400.

So Root goes, 12 short of his ton and 17 short of Shakib.
Gives us a little bit of Buttler. Does he take 1 or 2 to have a look, or just come out swinging?

That's silly. Morgan has scored 102 runs in 6s!
And he's out now. 148 off 71. Likely to be the fastest ton of the competition.

Root out ...unfortunate to miss a hundred : has mainly been watching the skipper lately but a decent innings anyway - if inevitably overshadowed by Morgan...who now takes the six hitting record - and holes out for 148

The most RashidKhans ever gone for in an ODI before this was 7.55 an over...currently hes at 12 an over. he took a wicket that day too. This will also be the first time hes not taken a wicket two ODIs in a row (assuming they wont send him out for the slaughter)

You could have put money on Buttler going for next to nothing after that Morgan innings... He was on a hiding to nothing anyway as you couldn't top that show...
No 400 today ...380-390 represents a decent effort against the spin heavy sort of attack that England often find tricky...

Analysis done by CricInfo suggested that since the last World Cup, England have perhaps been the best against spin. India have a higher average against spinners just, but England have the higher strike rate.

Buttler's best innings seem to come when he can take an over or so to settle in and then go crazy. No harm under these circumstances in him not coming off.
Major batting collapse: 353-2 to 378-6 . Just shows that it isn't easy to come in and swing for the fence from the get go
