Ooof, that's a big wicket. Root plumb. England not playing this new ball period sensibly.

Not looking good , is it ? I fear another WC disaster is heading England's way. Would be nice if NZ can do them a favour tomorrow but the way they're playing I am not at all confident of qualification. Which really will be a blow for the country after all the priority on white ball cricket and brilliant lead in...
Game isn't completely gone of course ...Buttler and Morgan could get these on their own. But it doesn't feel like that sort of day...

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Yeah, there's still a theorical chance but the team look mentally shot at the moment. I think Roy is a huge loss, Vince as the replacement is an early wicket every time which gives the bowlers more confidence. Moeen is woeful at 7 at the minute as well so the long batting lineup doesn't worry the opposition

England are gone. 3 wickets in the first 6 overs. Australia certainly showing England how to use the new ball and Cummins is still to come...

In hindsight we all should've seen the "crashing out of the group stage after being world number 1 and favourites" coming - it's the most England thing ever.

Vince can go away now, yeah? Dunno why you look at his game, the weaknesses in it and go "well, his struggles will clearly be hidden by batting up the order."

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Mentally shot seems a fair description. That loss to Sri Lanka was a body blow. Morgan said he was relaxed and confident after the game : but the look on his face as he watched the collapse said he was lying.
Wouldn't honestly have thought the loss of one batsman and a bit of pressure could derail the team who had dominated the last couple of years. But it is looking like the mother of all falls from grace .
Of course even losing today still leaves destiny in their own hands ; but beating India and NZ is looking a tall order given the way they're playing.
Anyway I think I will give up this negative posting as I just haven't got Trebell's touch

Well they've pitched the bloody thing up , haven't they ? Beyond me why Archer and Wood didn't think it might be worth testing the Aussie openers with swinging full deliveries at 90 plus...
England really haven't played smart cricket lately.

England need these 2 to put on another 120-150 to have any hope in this game and possibly tournament. A defining partnership so to speak and in fairness, these 2 are capable of it.

Some very poor shots have cost England. Bairstow was looking in control, then he decides to gift his wicket.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
We're not quite at the stage of needing miracles as we still have two capable bats in, a lot of time and a decent tail. But if England dug this one out it would go down as one of the great World Cup performances - the kind that gets replayed in rain delays on Sky for years to come.
Australia going back to Cummins, they want to keep their strike bowlers on and want to put England beyond a point they can come back from. England have to remind themselves there's at least 10 of Maxwell and Stoinis to come and if they can stick in through this spell they can cash in against the 5th bowling options and catch up a bit there.

The Aussies did not look comfortable with that review at all. Very poor from Stoinis, a wasted review.

Good to see Australia don't get everything right
At least these two have got the target down under 200.
But it is becoming very clear this was not a 285 pitch. Hate to say it but KP_fan was quite right about that. Still been a disappointing batting display in any situation ; but the pressure has been getting them in all their chases recently - The West Indies match aside. Maybe Wokes should bat three every time

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
It's easily a 300 pitch. Once you negotiate the tricky new ball phase, you can cash in. Trouble is, England's top order surrendered cheaply - no surprise Stokes and Buttler have found it easier.
But they've probably got too much to do.

A very good 50 to Stokes given the context of the game but he looks to be struggling out there with his hamstring...

Don't know about surrendered, Duty. Australia have bowled better... those first 2 wickets exactly what was needed. Uncontrolled shots from Bairstow and Morgan and they paid the price.
Where's Bumble by the way? Haven't heard him in this World Cup. Is he OK?

I think ICC have selected the commentators, rather than Sky and went for more internationals being an international event. Think he just missed the call, but should be back on for England home tests.

They have bowled well Australia - they actually pitched it up! - but you're always inviting danger when you're going for big drives or walking across the line.
Buttler gone, that's probably it.

Bollix it, Stokes just has to go for it now for England to stand any chance of a result. The run rate will get unmanageable very soon.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
It feels like a lot of unnecessary shot selection has done here. Stokes is giving the pitch and the bowlers some respect, he's the one with the score. It would be a miracle from here.
I admit, I backed the Aussies midway through, over evens seemed far too good a price. Vince is basically a non-entity and I don't trust England to tough it out.
I don't think there's a perfect side in this World Cup, so I wouldn't be surprised by any winner from here, but the Aussies and India are the ones staking a claim.

Stokes is now well set (be it he has problems with his calf) so he should try to cut loose and let Woakes anchor the other end somewhat. Stokes with 2 sixes

Oh never, I just think those two are the front runners. I still very much believe in group stages being all about qualifying and nothing else.
Yeahhh, this is the one I chose as my game to stay up for in the group stages. So tomorrow I will be tired and I will be surrounded by people who will enjoy the result they wake up to.
