Don’t understand why you wouldn’t have someone on the boundary on the offside for the leg spinner against right handers

Yeah he's the wicket they want . He sort of has to go after Rashid now though which ought to create a chance.
Drawback being Rashid has been a bit off in this tournament so far. Would be a good day for him to fire.

And again, it’s basically free runs. Very weird from Morgan

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Just like Bairstow, Rohit struggled in the early part of the innings. But, also like Bairstow, he rode the tough period out and is beginning to score freely. Root's drop becoming ever more expensive.
England won't be panicking just yet, but if these two bat another 10 overs + they will be.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Depends on what they score in the ten overs I guess...well behind the rate at the moment so they'll have a long run for home...
But yes , England will want to get these two out. Both looking a little too comfortable at the moment.
Got a feeling if Rashid can get one he might go on a bit of a roll , as he's going to be targeted.

And Rohit is really getting into his flow now...savaging Stokes this over !
Someone on BBC suggested they should try to keep him in when he was struggling. Not a smart theory...

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Last five overs, these two have scored 41...so a further ten overs could bring them 80+ runs which will, of course, be very damaging for England.
Three consecutive boundaries off Stokes now. The fair-weather, sing-when-they're-winning, Indian fans starting to make themselves heard. Haven't got a patch on Pakistani supporters.

Good few overs for India there . That's it for Stokes now , Archer back on.
Was about this stage of the innings that England started to find it harder to score.
And Plunkett gets the big wicket !

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
A lot on Rohit now. RRR heading over nine and Pant might need a few overs to get set - though we know he can really hit the ball when he's in.
Interesting question for Morgan as to how he rotates his bowlers through this next period. He has a few who are quite good at the death ; but he wants to keep the screws on now so they have too much to do later , even with wickets in hand. Maybe Wood's turn next...

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
None of Wood, Rashid or Stokes are going very well at the moment and England need another 6 overs at least from the 3 of them. India will target those 6 overs.
Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Wood needs to somehow try and repeat what he did against Australia. He started poorly but finished very strongly. Stokes is capable of providing that stunning breakthrough but looks very tired... no wonder after all of his work with the bat. As for Rashid... yes, he is a bit of a worry. India will look to take him to town.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Wood just bowled a better over. But even if he bowls out we need at least one more from Rashid and Stokes. Or Root, but it's possibly a bit late in the piece for that.
You feel if there's a wicket soon we could get a couple out of Rashid while the new batsman tries to settle. Especially if Rohit goes.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
India making a good chase of this. Only about 25 shy of England at the same point ..,and only two down.
But it is Rohit doing all the heavy lifting : get him and it will look like a mountain.
Of course they have to find a way to get him first

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
100* for Rohit. That's 96* runs Root owes. He can pay those against New Zealand.
RRR at 10 for 15 overs. Wickets will stop them getting there.

Yes that is what I'd hope for ...Morgan too I think . Doubt he will risk Rashid again with Rohit at the crease.
They need ten per over , we should remember. You'd think we will see an up and under at some point ?

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
Still Pandya, Dhoni and Jadhav to come in terms of batters; the rest aren't up to much.
While it stays below two a ball, and they have plenty of wickets intact, India will still feel this is a game they can win.

Woakes returns and gets Rohit! Huge moment in the game. Nicks off to Buttler.
Pandya on his way in. He can hit a ball for sure.

Yes , Pal Joey...it is getting late...and I've a busy day tomorrow - well , today

Olly's man strikes. Rohit's innings was very reminiscent of Bairstow's earlier.
Still work to do for England. Either of these at the crease can replicate the critical role that Stokes played in England's innings.

Dhoni seems to take a while to get going these days. Think it is this pair , Pant and Pandya , who have to do it.
Does he bring Rashid back now ?

The wicket has put the breaks on slightly. The required 10 from the over before, only 6 from this one.
Wood to continue, no Rashid yet.

I don't think I'd bring Rashid back at all, he's been highly ineffective today. One more out of Stokes, the rest from the four main seamers.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
6 from the over again, slightly ruined by a 4 from the last ball. It's still not enough for India, the rate rises to 10.67.
Woakes to continue, still need one more from Stokes or Rashid at some point. Maybe the 41st with the extra fielder out?

Oh dear...Pandya running riot ...
For the first time in this innings , I am getting anxious. Long way to go but he's hitting it brilliantly. Think they need him out.

16 from the Woakes over. Pandya really took to him there. One more before the extra fielder goes out. Plunkett back on, rate over 10.
Plunkett gets Pant! Caught Woakes. What a catch!

Another brilliant catch to add to a fantastic compilation from the tournament. Also went some way to making up for that previous disappointing over.

Dhoni with his trusted old faded lucky batting pads. He'll have to start scoring quickly. No time to settle in now you'd think.

We need to be on our mark when we first get in at Dhoni. If we can make him chew some dot balls then he can heap the pressure on Pandya and the rest of the batsmen.

5 from Rashid's over. Take your cap, job well done. Just the main 4 seamers now please.
Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 3
India quite passive against Rashid, which was a surprise. Maybe they didn't want to fall headlong into a devious trap?
