ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 4
First topic message reminder :
Yes, England expected to be unchanged. Long boundaries apparently, which will suit England's excellent running ability!
If there were a decent replacement in the wings, I think Rashid's place would be under severe threat. He's got figures of 7/403 from 69 overs in the World Cup so far, which is hardly illuminating stuff.

While these two are in it remains possible. A wicket probably kills it- if it falls soon. But give them five more overs together and it's Game On

Williamson goes back to Neesham. Good choice I think...he's a canny bowler.

It's all down to Jadeja, like Braithwaite against the Kiwis. Dhoni can't seem to score heavily, but his partner is absolutely nailing some of these to the fence.

50 for Jadeja, and 9 an over still required through the last 8.
If these two stay there, India will pull off the miracle.

Fifty for Sir Jadeja
Hauling India back into this nearly singlehandedly.
NZ under real pressure now. They are going right at the required rate of nine per over ...and Boult and Henry have only a couple of overs left. Think they need to get Jadeja or he's going to make this ! Which would be an amazing escape ...
Ferguson a valuable tight over :clap

Dhoni eating up the dots as the RRR goes towards 10. 42 balls left; Boult's got 12 of them.

Remember when this world cup was the worst format ever and going to be dominated by power hitting and leg spinners with teams competing to be the first to 500?

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 4
Dhoni still not helping his team - even if he can't clear the fence, he has to be taking a single each ball to give Jadeja the opportunity.
Rate sneaking up, but it's now at the stage where one big over swings it to India.
Anyway, regardless of the ultimate result, Jadeja should be in contention for motm - 10 overs, 1 for 34, 2 catches (one very good), an excellent run-out and now a good effort at the match winning innings under intense pressure

Good for Jadeja to come off the bench and make a statement like this. If he somehow pulls it off whoever kept leaving him out is going to look a prize goose.

Dhoni at 38 years is an old man in cricket terms. Feeding him raw meat doesn't work nowadays. India need a new younger version.

Dhoni nudging singles to get Jadeja on strike...but it's simply not enough. He has to be much more aggressive at this stage.
RRR up to 12. Very difficult with these sizeable boundaries and only one batsman firing.

Body language has changed all over...
Indian fans now jumping all over place ...batsmen charged and charging...NZ players very anxious and the bench is looking almost desperate ...
Of course the closer they get the more pressure goes back on the bats . But they have 4 wickets in hand.
Great over Henry

Jadeja gone.
I don't think this has been particularly close, despite the commentators sensationalising it. At no point were these two, as a partnership, scoring heavily enough to trouble NZ. The RRR was always climbing, not descending. Jadeja was doing fantastically at one end, but Dhoni was undermining it at the other.

Dhoni's scored one boundary all innings, and still the commentators think he can score 30 in 12.

Blimey, Guptill arrives at the World Cup. Bit late, but it's fashionable.
Dhoni was never going to pull it off anyway. It's not 2011 anymore.

Well I suppose at least the Indian team have kept it to a "respectable" loss. Dhoni is unable to score at any sufficient intensity and two tail enders remaining.

With respect , Duty , that is nonsense. Had Jadeja not got out these last two overs would have been very much on the edge.
Dhoni six to start the penultimate over...but he's brilliantly run out now and that is Game Over . But a heck of a match !

Jadeja 77 off 59 balls (SR 130)
Dhoni 43 off 69 balls (SR 62)
If Dhoni could have scores at 100, these two would have taken it right to the wire.
And now Guptill runs out Dhoni. Fat lady loosening her vocal chords

The RRR had just edged above 12 when Jadeja got out. I don't think this was particularly close at any stage, maybe it would have been if Dhoni was scoring heavily. But it was far too much to ask of one man.

Not sure it's a choke by Dhoni, more that he is not the same player as 2011.

Well bloody done New Zealand.
They had one chance - damage the Indians with the new ball. And they bowled (and fielded) exquisitely. Highly deserved win.

Re: ICC Cricket World Cup - Part 4
Dhoni did what he can these days.....the blame goes on to:
1-Inability of team to handle pressure....DK & Rahul were perfect examples of choking under pressure
2-& then the way Pant & Pandya fell to brainless slogs instead of hitting the spinner down the ground.
Good luck to both teams with the toss tomorrow....and salute to Pak and NZ who have pulled off two tough chases each in the tournament

Just can't do these things with raw meat, eh?
The key part of this is the ridiculous cowardice of the ECB and their Australian counterparts. They've absolutely dictated the weather to ensure neither side has to face India in the final. Their control over the clouds not only ruined the Indian rhythm, but also forced them to play on a Wednesday as they know Kohli uses that day as his rest day.
