Final Fantasy XIII-2 announced
At E3, Square-Enix announced a sequel to Final Fantasy 13.
Their aim is to take the best aspects of the original, such as the graphics, locations and excellent battle system (widely commended as the most exciting battle system of the series and possibly the genre - a sentiment I agree with), whilst overcoming some of its flaws - the major one being the linear nature of the game's first 25 hours, which betrayed the franchise's history and proved to be more of an investment than some people were willing to make.
I almost gave up myself.
Coincidentally, today I completed FF13, only 15 months after buying it (I say completed, I mean the story - still so much to do), and I find myself excited for a sequel, because the story of the original, though it had its flaws, was ultimately a very good one, with the depth and great voice acting of the characters managing to augment the narrative, and involve me as a player. I am very glad I didn't give up on the linear first half because once it opened up it was an immersive, visually stunning and rewarding game that we have come to expect from the series.
I just hope that the huge errors Square Enix made with its last Final Fantasy sequel, the apalling X-2 are avoided, and this becomes a worthwhile extension of the story, whilst improving upon the gameplay.

I gave up on this one. I was a huge FF fan but this game just got dull really quickly. Also, there was a character who was seriously annoying.

Must agree with Pr4wn. I really enjoy the Final Fantasy series, but XIII was just a beautiful turd. Square Enix are at a crossroads now, some people didn't like XII, and a lot haven't liked XIII, so they can't mess up anymore.
Sometimes I think that 12 should have been delayed just that bit longer and made for the latest consoles, because on the PS2 the game suffers from mediocre graphics and compressed sound. It would have been respected a lot more than the Video Game Corridor that is FFXIII.

i have currently given up on 13 although will probably go back to, its the only final fantasy ive played that i havnt completed. its just no where near any of the others, i didnt mind 12 wasnt the best but better than X-2.
i could see why they did X-2 as i thought 10 was a great game but 13 isnt no where near that so wont be getting that exicted about 13-2

I had given up on 13, the lack of ability to level up to get out of a sticky boss battle sucked.
However i restarted, and if you can get as far as Pulse, it becomes so much more like a real ff game.

I did 100% completion on FFXIII, there were quite a few places that allowed you to grind for a while if you were having boss problems.
FFXIII in my eyes wasn't that much more linear tan any of the other FF games it just didn't give the illusion of open ended freedom like the others ad was more direct with is approach. Once you get to Gran Pulse it opens up like any other FF, alot of the FF games were quite linear to a certain point before opening up they just pretended to offer a air of freedom.
For me it was a better overall game than either 12 or 9 and suffered for being blatant in its linear progression style.
